Leapfrog is notorious for rushing shoddy products to market. Look at the review (side by side comparison of the V-Tech pad. The Leapad is much worse where it counts, in the actual applications, and writing recognition. Leap Frog also has a history of poor customer service, and dropping products if they don't sell as well as hoped. Check out the V-Tech pad before purchasing either.
@simoni111986 the apps which come as standard are shown in the review, the pet pad, the story ap and the art studio, you also get to choose 2 free apps on purchase, but other apps need to be brought and downloaded fro the online store
@mrpoet212 hi the batteries I have been sing are rechargeable and I tend to find they last about 10 -15 hours of play? that might not seem too long but its a fair amount of time, There is however a mains cable which is due to be on sale towards the end of november.
@BoxerDogTales which rechargeables do you use? we have the leapfrog explorer and started using rechargeables but they didn't seem to work correctly and we decided that it was because they weren't the correct Mh number
@pob751 hi there I have been using Energizer Rechargeable 1300mAh which seem fine, also the standard Philips Extra Life + batteries seem to work for a fair amount of time hope thats helpful
heyy nice review i just wanted to ask a question i have a little sister that is autistic i was wonder if you or anyone reading this thinks this is a good learning tool for her
@ecuastephx3 I would say this could be a great learning tool, but obviously it depends what your sisters strengths and weakness are, there are so many educational benefits with this and lots of apps to download if you wish which included some very well known characters and again these have educational themes.
@ecuastephx3 Hi. I can't say about your sister and the LeapPad, but I can say that the iPad has proven to be a really great communication tool for autistic people, accoring to both Apple and independent researchers. You might want to look into the iPad for your sister. I know it's pricey, and I myself am not a big fan of the iPad, but I wanted to throw that out there. :) Good luck.
this is great as my 4 year old cousin wanted an iPad for her birthday. young children as we know can be clumsy, and as much as she wanted one, the cost was high and it was easily breakable. this is perfect for children and is durable too!!! plus it is a learning aid and they learn as they play :)
Thank you, this is really helpful. Our son will 2 and 1/2 at xmas and he LOVES my iphone so think this will be his main present! Loved the way you interacted with your son.
@helen0725 hi there although my 8 year old daughter does love the leappad i do think there are more games which are better suited to the younger users..
Wonderful review! I read a review on the Leapster Explorer and one of the cons was that there was constant advertising aimed at children. Does this one have that also? I didn't notice any of that in the video review???
@mtjduco73 hi there, This review was done prior to connect to the internet as we recieved the leappad pre release, once we connect to the internet a couple of thinsg altered, there is now 'sneak peeks' tab which does show games available, but my children have not been bothered by this tab and unless you click on to it you don't see any form of adverts if you do click on it then it brings up a list of available games, which is actually quite good at taking a look at what the games are like
Excellent review Mum & Mikey. I would like to buy one for my grandaughter for Christmas who will be 3 in Feb. Do you think that it is likely a child of that age would grasp the simple bits of using it? She knows how to fully use a V tech camera by herself and can use a stylus on her peppa pig game on my DS. I realise that she will only have limited use to start with. What would you think? In your opinion what are the simplest games? Cant find one up and running to test out on her.
@doverpup sorry for the late reply, I think 3 year olds will mange just fine, mikey would have been fine with it a year ago thats for sure, my neices have loved it too. roly poly picnic is a great app.
GREAT REVIEW! Thank you so much. Since this is a new product, there isnt many reviews for it. So this has been a great help. I was just wondering how much the apps/games are. In the videos on the webside there was tangled and tinkerbell games. How much are those sort of games/stories/ apps? Thank you so much.
@SPANGLER3 no it does not need a memory card, everything is built in, you can connect to your computer to store more apps and files and just put on the ones your child is using at the time.
@loubeelivvylou hi there, yes there is a mais lead socket which will be available to purchase seperately from toys r us around november time, along with other accessories cases, skins and such like :)
yes|
