"fuck trance". most techno people regard carl cox and tiesto in the same catagory. the real techno/house dj's are richie hawtin, jeff mills, stacey pullen, derrick may, carl craig, juan atkins, ricardo villalobos, etc... many people think of cox as a hybrid dj that mixes trancey-house, trancey-techno and trance, that makes cox no better than a trance dj. there is a reason cox is featured at festivals like ultra, and not places like DEMF.

i didn't say he's trance, but hes not purist techno. and he does tag team occasionally with trance DJs. with that, i really like carl cox. hes one of my favorite djs. the reason for the post had more to do with the "fuck trance" mentality of the poster. its kind of a silly comment when cox himself doesn't even dislike trance, and hes played out some trance tunes from time to time. he's not a pure techno/house DJ. He's a hybrid.

Where do you find these "techno people"? I'd really like to know. Carl and the joke that is Tiesto are so far apart it isn't even funny. I personally would rather hear Marco Carola than Carl play if I had a choice because that's what I think of as real techno, but Carl is no less techno in reality (they even play SOME of the same tracks).

detroit. berlin. spain. i'm not going to argue any more, but here in detroit, while cox is considered a great dj he isn't a techno legend like may, saunderson, atkins, craig, speedy j, hawtin, mills, sims, etc. cox has been known to scratch, mc, even play sets with trance djs (especially 96-98). he's a hybrid. and most techno guys have gone to more minimal influenced tracks, where cox is still playing banging stuff.

Well, what Carl is playing now, I wouldn't call trance at all, I would call it hard house/techno whateva. I've seen him many times, and I don't think I ever heard what I would consider "trance". I always heard other people say he plays 'hard house' to put it in a general category. You are the first person I have ever heard that says he is a trance dj. I consider Carl to be a house DJ, first and foremeost.

Correction Ghost Writer, Bennassi does play house but mostly he's listed as progressive house and the cheesy shit you listed too (TRANCE). The old days of crafty goa trance and desert trance were awesome in 91'. I buy alot of music and if you listen to 5 of the top 10 trance tracks on any trance dj and it's the same regurgitated melody( Sometimes just too happy for the average weirdo)...however it's mainstream and the most voters who vote for the top DJ spot are by the numbers...mainstream. If you enjoy all electonica you will eventually broaden your taste and come to appreaciate the "true mastery of sound" .
