This is a lovely piece of music. I'd not heard it before notr do I know a great deal about Celtic music. On the other hand I've been involved in music my whole life and found it truly enjoyable! Thank you.
no, but the french live so close, there is a lot of french influence through time... in the nothern part of brittany there are somme people who have really kept the original accent...
By accident, I found this - according to my nonexistent knowledge of Breton it seems to contain some or all of the strophes of this version... can someone who knows some Breton extract the relevant verses, please? Ideally, with a translation? Would be glad!
I also speak breton, and I have to say that I feel the rythm is very familiar... sklaker is right though, its rather difficult to understand what she says... but its nice to finally hear someone speaking breton with rolen "r"s most breton speakers speak more and more in the french way, to foreigners it almost sounds like french!
I have a question for konanbzh though, do you know where to find the cd or simpply the music of dir ha tan? I had the
In seventies there was a band named Dir Ha Tan and you can heard it on MusicMe. The same song with the same (close) rythm is on the first CD (song 14 : Ma Zad Ha Ma Mamm) and i think it's very easy to dance on it. Just a little kitch... but it's so old...
The tune is really a dance, but not meant to be danced in the way it is played here.
Anyway it is a beautiful rendition of this traditional song from south Brittany.
The most surprising is that they choose a "priest" who have the vetements of a protestant minister, not those of a catholic priest in the XIXth century.
Très étrange, je n'ai jamais entendu un hanter dro chanté de cette façon, ce n'est pas très dansant et ça ne sonne pas fort breton même si les mots le sont...
I don't know if it's traditionnal. but it's probably not a song for dance, maybe it's what we call a "gwerz" which is a sad song, a complaint.but whatever it's a good song
this is really a strange vid. I'm breton & i never heard such a thing. She speaks breton but in a really special way, it take me 3 times to understand what she is talking about. the name of the song should be ma zadig ha ma mamm (which means my daddy & my mother) & she do not pronounce it properly & it's quite far from what it should be. the melody sounds breton but not really the rythm.
