He actually reminds of a guy I was on the same floor with in my dorm in freshman year. I still run into (read: fail to avoid) him sometimes. Neither appears to have any need to consider your specific reactions to their self-congratulatory stories to consider themselves conversational successes, but you can see on their faces right when they think they're saying something really impressive (e.g: 3:25, 4:32). I know Tim's way smarter though; I think he's just having a joke on us half the time.
I watched both parts and I think they are great. Funny stories, nice pictures of Japan. My only question: Where do I get the music from both videos? I think the music is awesome and I would like to have it in my collection.
Am I the only one who was being driven crazy by the way he kept waving that bit of food about and putting it near his mouth only to take it away again for the first 3 minutes of this vid?
I don't know why. I totally tuned out of his story... just watching that damn piece of food float about.
More writers in the video game racket could do well to take a cue or two not only from Tim Rogers but from classical and modern day literature. Incorporating elements of fiction in a game analysis is more entertaining than a 5-point essay and a score.
Tim Rogers is good. It's just that gamers don't like reading anything longer than five paragraphs and don't care about the lives of other human beings.
This is fairly true. Anyone who has read at least the first three in a series of posts in any game-related thread of any game-related forum can tell you about the kind of infantile exchanges that go on. They rival those of LiveJournal and, well, Youtube.
Tim Rogers is an entertaining writer. He tells stories of his life, fictitious or not, that just happens to involve video games in some manner.
Some people don't like that. That's fine. What's not fine is being a dick about it.
Best videogame journalist alive? He is a smug prick who doesn't even write about games. Considering every "game" article he has written is just pretentious bollocks about his own shit life.
Want to know why so many people hate him? Because he is an absolute Twat. And don't you fucking deny it.
Maybe you{re writer, and he is an awful videogame journalist. But still, I think that he´s a good writer, which of course is an altogether different thing. And, honestly, why do you hate him so much? I can see why ppl wouldn´t like he´s writing style, as it´s anything but accessible. But really, now.
@spectrex Where do you base that that opinion on? I mean, let's say that's actually the case, his articles still contain great views on modern society, sometimes in juxtaposition with gaming. And that works for me.

i like that a guy named jediknight2006 has posted "this man obviously has no life. yakuza would have ate him alive." you are a fucking loser. you have nothing to do with the yakuza and calling him a gaijin? who the hell are you? some australian nerd that signed the petition to vote Jedi as a national religion.
This man obviously has no life. Yakuza would have ate him alive. A**hole. Not comedy but definitely S**t. Ikebukuro no Ooza...please....oike they would asociatte with this Gaijin lowlife. Just listen to his speech pattern it is all made up. He is talking about Nanpa which is all about picking up Women for money that are not prostitutes Par se. Like he knoes about love hotels... Stick to the gay clubs Tim Rogers. SAD.
Come on. His stories may be as false as hell, (I wish they are not) but have you read him? He is probably the best videogame journalist alive. And those stories are part of it. Like using a lie to tell a truth.
I love Tim Rogers.

I always preferred Thomas Wolfe over Hunter Thompson.

Yes and no. I´d like more metaphors and analogies and, yes, personal experiences. But Game journalism wouldn´t work if everybody was a Tim Rogers.
They just need to be more like him, not quite like him. More Eric-jons would be great, though.

@InsomniumX If TIm Rogers writes anything like he talks he needs to be put to sleep by a vet.

@spectrex By a vet, no less. Well I, for one, am really interested in what he has too say.

@Hayashigame Why? The guy's a socially retarded, pompous, self-absorbed know-nothing jackass.
