No, but it certainly prevents it from overheating and getting the Yellow Light of Death, like mine did the other day, after almost 4 years of use.

I took it apart, heated up the GPU, removed the shitty thermal paste, added some Arctic Silver 5. Cut a whole out of the bottom of my ps3 so the fan could breath more. And so far (knock on wood) it turned back on, and seems to be running like a champ.

I wish they still sold these waterblocks. I got WCing in my PC. I would love it in my ps3.

@trumansnare I've done something eerily similar with my 360slim. Bought it because my old 360elite got stolen(Along with about 90 fuckign games >_>) Red ring in a week. Fan that was in there sucks ass and the case allows zero airflow. Took it apart, cut the metal mesh on the inside, removed POS fan, got a Delta in there now. Loud as a mother fucker. Pushes air like a champ though. Like a little space heater haha

2 months later all is good. Looks good. (Knock on wood back) :P

if you dont understand watercooling then i cant explain to you becasue you would need to know about either cars or computers to understand what it is, its a method of cooling the processor by runnin water which has a high specific heat capacity through a sort of heatsink back to somewhere where it can be cooled more efficiently.

mine is box stock and I have no problems. @baikoleda1 yes and no, it is called deionized water. and it is non conductive. water its self is not conductive, the impurities in it are. and most "water cooling" systems use a type of oil that transfers heat better, and is non conductive, but some brands of the oil ARE conductive. but if you are not dumb, you use non conductive oil in your system.

That is stupid. Ps3 is fine with no nitrogen cooling. It overheats becuase the thermal paste dries out this is just going to make extra noise from a compresser.

liquid cooling is not liquid nitro cooling (otherwise u would need lots of money to have a constant supply), liquid cooling is using water, wich is very conductive compared to copper or aluminum, the phat ps3 does overheat though, because the old cpu was too hot, they lowered the temps in the new one while keeping performance in the slim

Just so everyone knows. The liquid is water. Its just distilled water. Distilled water isn't conductive so if it leaks it wont send an electrical charge through the water.

It makes less sense than on PC. Console games don't typically scale with the hardware.

There can be some reasons though. Say the 3 year warranty ran out on the Xbox 360 and you wanted to insure that, if it failed, it would not be due to overheating, buy having it at 110F load, instead of 160F load with the stock cooler.

Or if you wanted to swap the 80MB/s HDD for a 355MB/s SSD and copy the disc to that so it will load much faster.

@iCuddleMuffinz Don't know if you're serious, but I'll still give you an simple explanation. The water doesn't even touch the components, instead it touches a plate. this plate gets really cold, and then it touches the component. And voila you get water cooling =)

@pballdale The 2007 model PS3's get the YLOD so water cooling will actually keep it cool and stop it getting hot as the fan in the 60GB doesn't work as it should which is why my old 60GB was always super quiet and my new 60GB from Sony is super loud.

The PS3 you saw in this video was a 60GB PS3, they had the 90nm CPU & GPU which meant they did get pretty hot (this isn't the case with current PS3's being sold), excessive heat is always the reason for wanting to water/ liquid cool. Non conductive coolant specifically made for watercooling was the liquid used, the liquid is stored in a reservoir, and pumped with a...pump.

i want to liquid cool my A01 60 gb, i've flowed it once and it was already a sony RMA, i know my flow is reliable as its gone 6 months and i've done 8 consoles that have yet to fail since, i use a silver 5 and a layer of thin heat shield tape on the bottom of the pwer supplys of old ones. im wondering if a VGA SLI liquid cooling kit will work for the procs on the ps3? i know i can get the mounting to work but will the cooling be sufficient? coolermaster Duo Viva is the liquid kit i'm eying

The waterblock in the video description is one waterblock that comes in contact with both the CPU & GPU, but is only compatible with the Phat PS3 only. Two separate waterblocks are used on the PS3 in this video, but as stated before, they are no longer made.
