Gavin Bryars will be giving his only concert this year in the UK at the London International Festival of Exploratory Music (LIFEM) on Saturday, 6th November. New work for tenor and ensemble will be premiered.
This is immensely moving music. Ashamed to say I knew of it, but never heard it until now. I think I am going to buy this cd today. Thanks for posting.

This is what I call "New Age" music. The instruments can be of a synth, a guitar, piano, and sometimes even a full symphony orchestra. Each band is different. Now I don't know how Gavin Bryar's band is put together though.

Now for those who has never heard this type of music before, this is called "New Age" music. or "Aleatonic" music. It is where you take almost all different types of music and blend it all together. Along with the principal sounds of the synthesizer. What you are hearing is a multi-track recording. Each voice you hear is on a different channel or track. The keyboardist plays a tune and puts it on a track and then shifts to another one and plays along with the music on the first track.
That's absolutely not how this piece is being performed. the recording being played simultaneously is a track of the main melody being played by the string ensenble, with its high frequencies cut off. According to G.Bryars that is to create an illusion of under-water ambient sound. The tape is being played throughout the entire _live_ performance, it's deffinitely not a pre-recorded piece of many channels.
I haven't seen Gavin Bryars since I studied at the University of Ulster nor heard the word aleatoric either....lmao. This is great music. I refused to play "Jesus' blood" back at Uni cos I was playing the same concert for Brian Irivine... What a dick I was and am>>>>
was the aphex twin remix 'Raising the titanic' made with samples from this track?

it is VERY clear that you do not know what you are talking about.... if you think this is all done on synth, think again.

I love it.. Nice and soothing. Especailly when the ship went down and 1500 souls were lost.
