If a government came to power in Ireland that decided that they should just renouce the debt, stop paying the bondholders and the bankers the Irish state wouldn't be as subservient to the EU and IMF. But that's not to say anything.. It's hypothetical due to the pro european attitudes of fine Gael and fianna fail. It's still not to say aswell, that the UK economy isn't linked to the EU very very tightly due to intrinsic agreements westminister signed up to from Lisbon and Maastricht...
