Under US law, construction of homemade weapons isn't illegal. In fact, such a law would be impossible to enforce. You could even sharpen your hidden blade if you wish. As long as you're not out walking around with that rig strapped to you arm and doing something stupid like brandishing it publically (and I believe you when you say you don't wear it in public) you needn't worry.

Though, I do agree that it's probably a good idea not to sell them just to be on the safe side.

Same here, my parents assume me of a person of interest in weapons that I make. Just like you.
