  • I loved Wayzata's dance from 2007. Their technique is flawless. :) Way to go ladies. They deserved first.

  • does anyone know the name of the song moundview used for their dance??

  • "she talks to angels" bye the black crowes

  • Do you know who sings the song? I have been looking around for "little piece of my heart" and i can't find the verison eastview use. Which in my opinion is the best out of the ones i have heard.

  • and who sings she talks to angels. thank you so much to who ever relies.

  • the black crowes sing "she talks to angels"

  • melissa ethridge sings that version of "piece of my heart"

  • little piece of my heart is janis joplin

  • eastview's song was "Little Piece of My Heart" and Mounds Views was "She Talks to Angels"

  • Ahh thank you so much! I love both of those songs so much. I kinda want to do them for my dance team. But i think that i might have to wait a few years.

  • I really love blaine's dance. But does anyone know what the name of the song that eastview did? And the song that Mounds View did? I love both of those songs and i can't figure out what they are. Thanks!

  • Just curious, what is the name/artist of Wayzata's song?

  • it is "Fuego (The Caliente Mix)" by Bond

  • omg! that was simply amazing! is this team a high school team or a college team? because that is amzingg! they're pirrottes were right on! i want to see wayzata in life, not even kidding. that's amazing, same with maple grove.

  • these are high school teams

  • Wayzata is amazing in person

  • i saw the Wayzata 2008 routine, and they were GREAT!!!

  • yeah what were the results this year?

  • Maple Grove got 1st and wayzata got 2nd

  • and blaine got third

  • i loved the themes this year, wayzata was great. i don't know what the team was called but the did some sort of cave girl theme. it was very entertaning

  • that was chaska and they got 2nd

  • i would love to see this from this year especially jazz. i wasn't able to go and wanted to see all the dances

  • I would just like to say congrats to blaine you did amazing in jazz at state!!! and i also would like to say i think its so funny that so many teams are doing themes because a certain team started that trend, that im not gonna say , but i think its funny!! its nice to see teams thinking out of the box!!

  • Does anyone know the rest of the rankings from 7-12 in high kick? I wish they posted them somewhere.

  • i know brainerd got 7th, lakeville north 8th, from there i would assume it went elk river 9th, eagan 10th, moundsview 11th, and henry sibley 12th

  • mndancer1922 - that the right ranking from 7th-12th.

  • state was awesomee!!

  • AAA kick finals

    3rd:Eastview 2nd:Chaska 1st:Burnsville

  • Thanks for posting that for those who couldn't go but you know what I found funny...if they were allowed to use props I would have swore it was a novelty competition from 20 years ago...so many teams had a themes to their dance. Very unique, I'm happy to see them really thinking about it. I'm happy for all of the girls they did a great job!

  • i couldnt agree more. it seems like you cant do well without a theme now. im surprised AA hasnt started doing themes yet, but i feel like next year is when we will see it fall into AA. there were so many good kick teams today it was a great competition

  • for the AAA state finals-

    3rd: blaine 2nd: wayzata 1st: maple grove

  • I couldn't go, can someone tell me what they wore, the songs and such. Thanks

  • blaine wore pretty blue dresses and danced to dream on, wayzata wore a black and blue dress with long blue gloves and danced to One Night Only, and maple grove wore maroon dresses and also danced to dream on.

there were a lot of double songs all day

  • Thanks!

  • Is there a video for the kick competition of the same year? (2007)

  • 1AAA is also a very good section, but gets overshadowed by eastview and burnsville every year

  • THANK YOUUU noelfay !! haha (:

  • finals at sections for jazz last year was soo close! Blaine's dance was amazing and there dance this year is phenomenal!

  • State is for sure going to be interesting this year...

  • no kidding.. anything could happen it seems

  • I think state is going to be incredible! 2AAA teams brought the fire on Saturday and it is amazing how many wonderful team are in that section. And while there were many great teams beyond the top three (i.e. Maple Grove in kick, Minnetonka, Hopkins, & Chaska in jazz), I thought the placement was very fair and well deserved. Great Job 2AAA!

  • I love state! Can't wait!

  • I agree I saw 2AAA!!!! And all I have to say is WOW!!!! I can't imagine a better competition (of course next to STATE.) MG was crazy good in jazz. Their choreography is on a whole other level. And in kick Chaska killed it! Their choreography is amazing! These were probably two of the best dances that I have seen in the last few years (although Eastview's kick and Wayzata's jazz last year come in close seconds.)

  • Yep that was an intense competition to watch. By far the toughest in AAA. I really enjoyed MG, you hit the nail on the head about choreography. I personally didn't like Chaska's dance so much. Just personal preference. It is sad to watch teams like Minnetonka, Hopkins, and Maple Grove stay home. When section 4AAA will send two teams in jazz and three in kick that don't have any business being on the state floor.

  • personal opinion but i was not a fan of MGs kick. great concept and formations but the technique... no.

  • mngrl4444, you did like Chaska's kick dance!? Or where you talking about their jazz???

But I totally agree with you about that section, it is so heavy in talented teams. The top six jazz teams and the top four kick team consistanly beat all the other teams that come in 2nd and 3rd in every other sections. It crazy!

  • i swear there are kick teams in section 4AAA that deserve to go to state. Brainerd, St Cloud Tech, Blaine.... so on...

  • that was replying to mngrl4444 by the way haha

  • Sorry my bad I meant 3AAA

  • ouch

  • ouch to the one below... U can't reply directly to it...

  • I think it is pretty rude of you to take away from the girls in section 4AAAs accomplishment...congratulations to ALL of the teams that have and will make it state.

  • ya thank you! And also we dont set the sections, we just dance where were told

  • Or 3AAA for that matter...

  • section 2AA sections were held today--

kick: 1 Chaska 2 Wayzata 3 Eden Prairie

Jazz: 1 Maple Grove 2 Wayzata 3 Eden Prairie

  • Section 4AAA

    Kick- Tech, Elk River, Brainerd

    Jazz- Blaine, Tech, Brainerd

    Section 4AA

Kick & Jazz (same order)- SC Cathedral, Sartell, SC Apollo

    Section 3AA

    Kick- Benilde, Delano, Marshall

    Jazz- Benilde, Mound Westonka, Delano

  • are those going from first to third or third to first?

  • First to Third

  • 2AAA*

  • i have watched this too many times.. yall are amazing, and i am a guy

    ps im gay though

  • That made me laugh!

  • Does anyone have more clips? Specifically the University of Minnesota dance team 2006/2007.

  • Maple Grove is the best in the world =)

  • wayzata killllleed it.

i was thrilled to see them win it.

  • I love that there is so much talent in Minnesota. I love that I live and dance here!

  • go blaine!

  • Trojets are dancing to Bond's "Fuego" Speed Mix? Way too cool!

  • thanks

  • does anyone know the song maple grove danced to?

  • Flames of Paradise by Jennifer Rush

  • <3Wayzata... so proud!!! Hard work pays off!

  • the first classic lake conference meet is monday! does everyone else start up meets this week too or just us? ah im so excited!

  • Has anybody heard what teams are dancing to this year?

  • On another note the teams that say the judging is unfair because other teams have "names," sorry to break it to you but they deserves it because they work their butt off to get as far as they do. Look back a few years ago wayzata was not the top dogs but now they have won state for two years because they work so hard. So teams should not believe that they are at a disadvantage because of other teams and judging it is your own fault if you don't work hard and impress others.

  • Umm, that has already been said before but it does bear repeating.

  • The talk about MV stealing their dance needs to end. Take the time and look at WI dance; you will find a similar style but not the same moves. Until you do that, people stop with this talk. If the dance was stolen people would have noticed and reported it during the year. But because it was not stolen there was no accusation made. Think practical and put all team's dances by side you would find moves exactly alike. People think alike and accusing others of stealing is ridiculous without proof.

  • I liked Wayzata's routine because it was different and very balletic! Nice use of some petite allegro stuff in addition to the usual big, jumps and turn combos.

  • I agree the only problem with that is the judges are so far away at state the small moves can sometimes "get lost" and what they can see in a gym at a high school they can no longer see at the X-Cel center. I hope the coaches and dancers realize that and compensate for it.

  • A few years ago, the judges did move to the lower level of the arena and it was a disaster. The space was tiny, you could barely stand up, media people were barging in while teams were being judged. Score sheets, and pens were falling into the stands. If the scores changed, it was for the worse because of all the distractions.

  • I used to coach in MN. I could swear that the choreography and music that Blaine used was used by their team about 7 or 8 years ago. There used to be rule that you could not repeat music within a 4 year time span, so no problem there. I just find it interesting that they "resurrected" that piece. I remember being really impressed with it back then! I guess that's why is stuck in my head (and I have old state tapes).

  • Interesting. I was curious about if there were similarities and I actually had a taped UDA nationals from ESPN when WI did the She Talks To Angels Song ... I didn't see anything exactly the same at all. My sister was on a one of the teams above and I watched all of Moundsview to compare. The style is similar but that is to be expected when you dance to the same song. Moundsview's was much faster and more interesting than WI. I applaud Moundsview (& Eastview) for thinking outside the box.

  • I heard from a very good source that Moundsview stole most of that choreography from the University of Madison done by Amer-Rose Sutton. Amber-Rose knew pretty early on in the year that they did and had another dance "hot stuff" in their arsenal (I loved "hot stuff" by the way even the uniforms looked cool). If I were the "choreographer" I would have sent the MSHSL the tape from nationals and had them disqualified. Discuss between yourselves

  • Yes this is true. I have seen both and there are many similarities. I also heard from a proffessional choreographer that they had him come in and work with them in January, which is illigal in MSHSL dance team. The only reason he mentioned it to me was because he didn't know it was illigal.

  • If someone knew they used a professional choreographer they should have called the MSHSL. But I have to tell you, I have seen the "Hot Stuff" dance and if they used that at state they would have beat Wayzata with no trouble. Their execution and technique on that dance was top notch and it was so fun to watch. They took a chance and did win second but I feel with hot stuff they would have won first. I wish someone could post that dance. They used it at Forest Lake I think.

  • I would agree I thought their "hot stuff" dance was very good as well as clean, I personally liked it a little better too. But with that dance they never beat Maple Grove or Wayzata, I think the change actually helped them not hurt them.

  • Did they even compete it against Wayzata or MG? I only ever saw it at their conference in Forest Lake. It would have been interesting to see the scores. They has such great energy, and technique but they did have a girl they "hid" in the back corner that they did cut out at state. Thank God.

  • I saw Hot Stuff but not at Forest Lake and they didn't compete against Wayzata. I have to tell you. there was not one person in their seat at the end of the routine it was wonderful, full or energy and great technique. But if I had a score sheet if front of me, I'm not sure they had enough to fill enough of the criteria on it to beat Wayzata.

  • Don't you think Madison probably had a professional choreographer? So I'm sure they didn't "steal" anything. Watch the dances. They are nothing the same.

  • Amber made up the dance and when it was performed at Blaine she she could have went out on the floor and performed most of it with them, THAT IS SLEALING! MV didn't perform the dance at some of the competitions after that. They were too busy changing it. That is why what they performed at state was different. It had to be if they had taken that same dance to state they would have been disqualified and their trophy taken away because someone would have complained to the MSHSL.

  • Wayzata's dance has a great song and some great choreography. But when you look at technique and the clenliness of the dances, they cannot compare to Mounds View and Maple Grove. I think the massive number of dancers on the floor hid the lack of technique on the "extra dancers." There were girls that did only a quad not quint in the beginning. Lame.

  • 1st off I can tell you have never seen a score sheet & don't know what the dancers are scored on. Wayzata has twice the # that MV has meaning it's harder to get the dancers together so they get a higher score in difficulty for that. Wayzata's dance was far more action packed with difficulty, pick it apart and you will see. Yes they had problems and were scored down for it.

  • Yes I have seen a score sheet. And no where on the sheet does it discuss difficulty in regards to number of dancers on the floor. It discusses difficulty of turns, leaps, combinations, and transitions, but not in regards to number of dancers.

  • k but its kind of a given that its harder to keep 28 girls together on turns then 14 or whatever the numbers are

  • also you clearly werent watching because the dancers on wayzata come from the top studios in minnesota so they have outstanding technique

  • Most of the twin city teams go to studios, no surprise there. That is the next rule the MSHSL should implement. No studio training from October to February.

  • I would agree that most of Wayzata's dancers have fabulous technique. I just honestly feel that they could stand to have taken out about 8 of the dancers who's technique doesn't match the quality of technique of their top 12-18 dancers. I am not knocking Wayata's team I respect the quality, I just feel that in over all technique Mounds View and Maple Grove showed more uniformity throughout the team they put on the floor.

  • I agree but if you look at from the coaches point of view: Do I put 22 girls out their out their and WOW the judges with our numbers and HOPE they don't see the few average ones if I stick them in the corner. OR do I only dance the very best 16 and hope we don't blend in with the MG, EV and MV? Quit a dilemma for the coach, but they all go through it. Their dance was not my cup of tea. Their execution was not up to par for a state champ. I would have placed 1-4 MG, EV, MW, Wayzata

  • I would agree that excecution wise, it really wasn't up to par to be state champs. This year should be an interesting one...

  • Well you need to look at it more closely because you are wrong. Under Jazz Skills: Difficulty of Skills its says # of dancers performing skills. It is also mentioned AGAIN under Difficulty of Choreography in the Choreography section. If a team of 15 does a perfect turn it is far harder for a team of 25 to get it together with no errors. That is why the AAA schools had that verbiage put on the score sheet so the bigger schools got credit. Any others questions for the former judge?

  • Hi this is great, they all have perfect timing

  • heyy

you should make one for the High Kick finals too!!

  • haha i would if i had the footage, but i only attended the jazz/funk finals. But not to worry, I think someone else posted the a high kick video of at least a few other teams.

  • just wondering.. are you on a dance team? or just a sweet fan? lol

  • are you making a new one for this year? cause all of the teams were amazing this year!!

  • yeah same with wayzta. we work endlessly to try and do as well as we possibly can so anyone who says we, or any of the other "well known" teams, dont work hard and only get it because of our name are seriously mistaken

  • Im sorry but im on the Viewettes and you can't say we don't work for our good scores. We work our butts off to do good at competitions and work hard to place well! so dont say we just place well because we have in the past, we work hard for it!

  • ok i love dancing but i must say that it is a dog eat dog sport. i feel that when teams get judged during a comp. its not all about that one performance. most is on reputation some teams dont get a fair chance because of there past years. look at maple grove and wayzeta there amazing. then look at albert lea and austin there good but always get left in the dust. u can't see there true talent as a judge cause u expect them to be blown out of the water by fairbault. actually look at the routine.

  • Sorry dear but you have mis-assessed the judges' role in the competition. The judges don't look at the order of performance and "pre judge" who is going to win by how the they did last year or last week or "who" they are. Austin can easily beat Wayzata if they want to. Wayzata was pretty stinky only a few years ago. They stepped up. Richfield was once an excellent school, always either first or second at state. St. Cloud Apollo won state once so did Tech, that doesn't mean they will do well.

  • austin doesn't even compete against wayzata. there not even in the same section. dancenowbreathlater was just making a point that judges expect faribault to win which might have an affect on the way they judge other teams. its also not fair that faribault was moved down to AA. if they were state champions in AAA its pretty much a give in that they will be state champions in AA.

  • You are just a mis-inform as she is. Fairbault was moved UP to AAA because their population went up, the next year it went down & they dropped back to AA. Fairbault & Wayzata & Brainerd & Moundview & AV do well because they work their asses off, simple as that. It is NOT A GIVE IN that any team will win ANY COMPETITION just because they have won before.

  • Did you know in 2004 the AAA High Kick Judged only thought Fairbault was good enough for 3rd place? Kind of blows you whole theory.

  • You also owe an apology to not only all those really top notch dance teams who deserve those medals but those dance teams who really try and don't win anything. Some of those teams who win all the time deserve it and are sick and tired of hearing they don't deserve it and some adequate team should win some time even though they don't deserve it. Well I'm sorry, if Austin or Albert Lea want to win state they need to work a tad harder at.

  • OMG! dance team! i love dance team. This year blaine is gonna be amazing!!! im dancing for them this winter. amazing girls!!! keep it up

  • no none of these are teams that do nationals.

and this is gymnastics... but its good to know roseville is good at it?

  • Dance Team nationals in this country are kind of a joke that is why most MN have never gone some have gone and won. Most just don't go because they don't want to go to UDA dance camp.

  • Most don't go to UDA nationals because according to the MN state high school league, teams can't compete at state and nationals... That's why Eden Prairie has two varsity teams, one for state and one for nationals

  • Can you show me where on the league website where it mentions nationals; I can't see to find in the articles where in mentions nationals (at least in regards to dance teams.) Someone told me it was because you get money if you win. (high schoolers can't be paid) I wish they had a "real" nationals that all states can go so so a true national champ can be crowned.

  • I've never read the rules myself, that's just what I've been told. I've been to (and won) UDA nationals, and you don't get paid any money if you win. So that can't be it.

  • actually... I did find it:

    "NATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND PERFORMANCES

Dance teams must follow the same rules as other sports which are guided by MSHSL Bylaw 410. There are no limitations on competitions with teams from bordering states (Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota) or provinces (Manitoba, Ontario). Competitions with teams from all other states are limited to four (4) teams."

  • As a former judge I must comment on they meant on this particular rule, it has nothing to do with "nationals" (Dance teams must follow the same rules as other sports which are guided by MSHSL Bylaw 410. There are no limitations on competitions with teams from bordering states (Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota) or provinces Manitoba, Ontario THEY MUST FOLLOW OUR RULES. MSHSL THAT IS.

  • >Competitions with teams from all other states are limited to four (4) teams."> ONLY 4 TEAMS FROM OUTSIDE OF MN ARE ALLOWED TO COMPETE IN MN AT A COMPETITION AT ONE TIME. They don't mention UDA nationals because there are so many "nationals" out there. The only teams who have gone to UDA nationals are Brainerd (they won HK in 87) St Cloud Tech & EP have dominated. I had a friend who won the hk nationals in the early 90s from FL their team did win money they probably stopped doing that

  • wow these were all amazing! they were so hardcore, much more like studio teams around here than the high school teams. did any of these teams go to nationals?

  • wayzata may have the best dance... but roseville will always be the best in the country(presently) in gymnastics

  • RAHS!! :D

  • First of all, we are talking dance here not gymnastics. At any rate aside from Anna Gleason (I think was her name) Roseville didn't set the world on fire at state last year. And certainly is NOT the best team in the country in gymnastics! Please explain. Wayzata MAY (?) have the best dance? They DO have the best dance at least until this February.

  • GEEEZ the first place routine was SO SO SO difficult!

all the dancers from all the teams are amazing! they all can join so you think you can dance with that awesome technique they have!

  • whats the song of the second dance ? please press reply so i can get an email :)

  • River Deep

  • do you know the artist name??

  • no sorry i dont know the artist name for Fuego..but i know that it was a different mix than the original version

  • It is the caliente mix by a group called Bond.

  • oh yes i just youtubed "The Caliente Mix" and that is the right song

  • Mounds View represent :]

  • does anyone know the name of the wayzata team song?? thanks!

  • their song was Fuego

  • wayzata is absolutly amaziiiiing!!! unstoppable

  • I would have liked to seen Mounds View win. Such a great song and dance. Wayzata though is clearly the best technical group out of all of them.

  • i dance for single A team in MN, and i LOVED Maple Grove, Mounds View and Wayzata's dances, i knew Wayzata was going to take 1st, but i knew it was going to close--they're all soo awesome :)

  • The turn combination in the middle of Wayzata's dance is phenomenal. I'm from Sartell and I remember during marking time all the dancers tood up and clapped for them. What an incredible team. However, I absolutely love Moundsview, Maple Grove, and Blaine.

  • Okay I am not an idiot I understand that but it total points it was 50, in rank points it was by about 4 or 5. Maple Grove had all 3rd rankings

  • Actually if it WERE totally points it would have been between 500-700 total points (not 50) depending how many judges were used. So you really don't know how judging works.

  • I think what she means is that out of total points they beat them by about 50 (not got 50 points). So for instance maybe Eastview recieved 500 points while Maple Grove recieved 550 (hense 50 points, although those points are not used unless they need to break a tie). But in ranking Maple Grove recieved all 3rds, so they actually would have beaten Eastview by 4 or 5 rank points depending on how the judges ranked Eastview.

  • Total points don't even matter thats why they are not used, so discussing them is pointless, that is why the coaches asked the MSHSL have them dropped and went to ranking. I wish they would do that with duals as well.

  • Oh, I know that. I was just trying to clarify what I think Annabell was trying to say.

  • Sorry annabell44 but the judges in MN use the ranking system not total points. The judges (lets say 6 judges) rank the teams from 1 to 6, hence the team with the LOWEST score wins. If all the judges had the winner in 1st the score is 6. If all the judges had the same team in 2nd, the team would have 12. The fact that Maple Grove beat Eastview by about 50 pts is simply not true.

  • psh yea we did awesome i have to say (wayzata) =)

  • Maple Grove beat Eastview by about 50 points

  • the most amazing dance of my life

  • yes moundsview is my personal favorite, i cried the first time i saw their dance at wayzata, it's breahtaking!

  • did anyone think mounds view was really good? cause i thought their dance was amazing! but wayzata was also rellly good

  • does anyone know how many points were between maple grove and eastview?

  • Yeah there were about 50 pts

  • jeeze! do you by any chance know how close wayzata and moundsview were?

  • Something like 5 points

  • does anyone know the website to order state tapes online?

  • I loved this dance it was absolutely amazing and they deserved it!!!

  • sweet that's my team! yeah wayzata!

  • I love watching AAA jazz! Thanks for putting it up!

  • this angle/tape doesn't do wayzata justice, not your fault at all but you gotta see it in person to be thourougly amazed! :)

  • well honestly i dont think it does any of the teams justice. Seeing the energy of each dance in real life is so much better

    but haha youre welcome

  • :DDDDDDDDD THANK YOU, i have them on my camera but they aren't very good and i've been looking forever for videos until my state tapes come!
