For example, a rape victim was NOT forced to marry her attacker but was in fact entitled to compensation, while nobody ever got the death penalty for planting two crops in the same field and there seems to have been no legally sanctioned prejudice against homosexuality.

It seems to me that there are two ways to read the bible: one as a guide to lead a Christian life, where you have to question your surroundings, interpret the meanings from the parables, and think about the stories using your head. The other, you take thinking out of the equation completely and just follow the words literally. Just like the interpretation of any constitution, charter, or other legislation, the bible is subject to individualism. It is a PERSONAL GUIDE.
Gosh three years ago I put this clip on and look at the responses. As you will all be wondering, my beliefs as a very old man resolve around the basic tenets of Christianity because they seem to meet basic requirements for civilisations to survive. The issue I have with this scene is more dramatic than theological (I am a Christian). I think that this scene would have worked better if the Jacobs character had a multi-episode arc. It is established pretty clearly that Bartlett is a Christian AND very intelligent. By having her show up for one episode smacks of making her a plot point and makes him look like a bully. Any books written by Paul would not be eye witness accounts of the words of Jesus, thus all of his books would be irrelevant as to the matter of what Jesus thought of Homosexuality. Within this context, Jesus himself never addressed this issue according to eye witness accounts. His discussions on marriage had more to do with whether divorce was "legal" within Jewish Law. He never discussed the context of whether marriage was only between "one man/one woman".

It seems to me that there are two ways to read the bible: one as a guide to lead a Christian life, where you have to question your surroundings, interpret the meanings from the parables, and think about the stories using your head. The other, you take thinking out of the equation completely and just follow the words literally. Just like the interpretation of any constitution, charter, or other legislation, the bible is subject to individualism. It is a PERSONAL GUIDE.

The issue I have with this scene is more dramatic than theological (I am a Christian). I think that this scene would have worked better if the Jacobs character had a multi-episode arc. It is established pretty clearly that Bartlett is a Christian AND very intelligent. By having her show up for one episode smacks of making her a plot point and makes him look like a bully. Also, what kind of corn-fed dodo wouldn't get up in a room when others do, if he/she is able? Cool speech, bad context.

Any books written by Paul would not be eye witness accounts of the words of Jesus, thus all of his books would be irrelevant as to the matter of what Jesus thought of Homosexuality. Within this context, Jesus himself never addressed this issue according to eye witness accounts. His discussions on marriage had more to do with whether divorce was "legal" within Jewish Law. He never discussed the context of whether marriage was only between "one man/one woman".

Animals humping inanimate objects can also be found in nature, it doesn't make it correct behavior.You dont see anyone going around trying to use it to rationalize inanimate objects mating either.. Its not rocket science. its wrong.

I miss Martin Sheen and the West Wing. For me, it is one of the best TV shows ever, right up there with MASH, and Star Trek TNG. There are few, if any, modern dramas that are this well written and acted. Thank you for uploading this clip.

& @redn40, there's nothing wrong with homosexuality. Love is love no matter the gender. Just because members of the same sex can't make babies, that doesn't mean homosexuality is wrong. Why can't you just be happy for people who have found love, be in man & woman or man & man? You have no right to be the judge or criticize or condemn it. God didn't give you that right.

I do not claim that al must be gay or bisexual but to accept that there is more than man and woman can love and make sex together.
As a social animal sexuality is more than procreation! Sexuality strengthen relationships or can soothe aggression and so on!
It is complex as everything in this universe and there are no easy solution or explanation!
But most of the peoples on this world do not use their brains and want easy answers!

@redn40 You know, the world is overpopulated enough. I think we can afford to let homosexual couples have sex. Besides, some kids these days are spoiled and snotty (no pun intended). Some of those kids funny enough come from some heterosexual couples who grew up with the mentality that they deserve to be spoiled and snotty as well... Or think they are better than other people. @redn40 But homosexuals aren't inanimate objects that are defected and/or "wired the wrong way." Gays are people too who are wired to be attracted and love people of the same sex. We have the same feelings, emotions, etc as straight people do. And that doesn't mean it's wrong. It just means we're all HUMAN! Besides, not every heterosexual couple out there get together with the main goal to breed. Breeding isn't as important of a role as it used to be for some couples.

States that usually pass something legislatively concerning gay rights usually go through the state governments or courts, unless the people call for a vote on the issue like what happened in Maine & California. But are you going to ignore the facts that polls have been taken concerning the acceptance of homosexuals showing that acceptance has increased steadily? Over 50% of Americans accept homosexuals and their relations compared to figures in the 30-40+% range 30 years ago

You just want to force people to call males mating with males and females mating with females normal,correct behavior.. And the last time I checked homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder in 1973 by the American Psychiatric Association and in 1975 by the American Psychological Association. It is no longer a disease like it was once thought. It is a natural lifestyle! Just as natural as heterosexuality! I want the same rights as straight people have.

@redn40 Well you know what? I forgot to mention I do live in a state that allows same-sex marriage. I guess my homestate should be examined then, right? So technically I can get married to my girlfriend anytime I want. Heck, we can even get married in her homestate of Massachusetts. But I still would like to see other members of the LGBT community be allowed to have the same right in other states. For now, I'll leave you with your conspiracy theories.
