  • i have this I think on dvd

  • Yep, Dick looked alot better with short hair.....everyone has their stages with growing their hair long but in his case he ljust ooks plain ridiculous. I bet he cringes when he sees himself in these old videos.

  • These three on one set? Why am I only just now learning that this happened?

  • Wow. Dick Smothers with REALLY long hair, and a relatively non-responsive Tommy. They must have still been smarting over the CBS thing. Not that I could ever blame them for still being pissed, but why bother going on Cavett? Two very talented and funny guys, I will never be sorry for being able to see them live a few years ago.

  • I don't think I ever have Dick Smothers with long hair. Tommy looks the same, but I don't know if I would have recognized Dick at that point.

  • The days of intelligent television!

  • This is awesome!

  • For those interested, David Bianculli's book, "Dangerously Funny", which chronicles the birth of their act to the demise of the Comedy Hour is awesome! I couldn't put it down. And yes, it was truly sad that a show that did so much to develop new talent and make funny content that reflected the anxieties of its age was extinguished so quickly.

  • Please post skit with Marshall Efron as the winner of the Dick Cavett look-alike contest if you can.

  • I always liked these two.....CBS was constantly being badgered by the Nixon White House to get rid of them, so CBS has a long-standing rep of being the wuss-bag network..

  • .. so they replaced a fresh, sharply paced, modern variety show with.. HEE HAW!!

  • @TIPTON340

I was thinking about HEE HAW the other day. I had never seen it until I moved from Connecticut to Virginia. HEE HAW was really a horrible, brain-dead program.

  • @terrryc CBS dropped Judy Garland in 1964 just when her show was improving. And they tried to stop her from singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic in honor of President Kennedy. They really were the wuss-bag network.

  • @terrryc Not even Chuck Lorrie, Mark Burnett or Jerry Bruckheimer could ever change that fact five decades later.
