This car doesn't have a hood! It is a saloon, not a cabriolet! Much nice looking car than the ugly E60 too - clean lines flowing up over the bonnet and the headlights look better balanced.  I was definitely not a Bangle fan...

In terms of design, the f10 itself makes no sense. (It's terrible, I want Chris Bangle back, I HATE the e90 though.) And that M version doesn't achieve much improvement... I was hoping they would make it look good, but that's an unreasonable request, of course. If one prefers this to the e60 i assume they also prefer Lambo to Ferrari. That's so typical and i frown upon that kind of immature car taste.

You seem to be generalizing M car drivers because of a few idiots who buy them simply for the badge but the same can be said about AMGs since their fanbase is mostly composed of middle aged men driving S63 AMGs who conform for automatic transmissions and who pay little interest in handling. But then again saying that would be making the same mistake you did, and I'd be forgetting all about the true AMG enthusiasts who enjoy the actual machine instead of simply the ornament on its hood.

The M division has deviated from many of these traditions with the introduction of vehicles such as the X5/X6 M, & the use of forced induction in the upcoming M5. I am just hoping that in the end this move is worth it & pays off with the final result of the vehicle because to be quite honest they are upsetting a lot of M enthusiasts/purists with these moves and the only reason most of us are still sticking around is because we know that M5s have yet to disappoint & we are hoping this one wont.

true. but people are commenting about it having the X5/X6 M engine (4.4 twin) I cant see that to be honest. I cant see an M car having the same engine as anyother BMW. Where else do you see the current M5 V10? Only M6!. And the New M3 V8 is in no other car. Personaly think it could be 5.5 V10 twin turbo. Be very suprised if its a V8.

I love the old E39 too, my dad had one but not the M5, I have got the new e60 M5, and its awesome, just passed a e39 M5on motorway other weekend and they were waving at me. the reason the downsized the engine was because of emission regulations. they gave bmw 2 yrs to change their v10 engine into something that met regulations better. i do agree that the v10 rev and sound is great...stupid tree huggers

Sorry karmahunden, but your "emissions regulations" theory is inaccurate. The S85B50 meets all current emissions & efficiency regulation. The reason for downsizing it to a TT V8 was because of the fact that in this current economical & market climate, where fuel efficiency & gas mileage are key factors in purchasing a vehicle, the S85B50 is no longer viable in this market. It isn't because of governmental or environmental regulations, it's simply market trends & what makes good business or not.

Still doesn't make any sense. Why would the BMW group be worried about the S85B50 breaking any regulations in 2 years? If they were to ever use another V10 in an M car it would have to be a completely reworked and re-engineered engine, and they could still have made a 10 cylinder that complies with those regulations. What would have been unlikely is that the would have still been able to meet the markets efficiency standards.

That's the thing, the M enthusiasts aren't really thrilled for the TT V8. It is a deviation from M tradition and after all the market for these cars isn't composed by everyday people just looking for a fast daily driver, it is made up of long time enthusiasts who enjoy the M divisions' traditional design and engineering. Lightweight construction, High rev capabilities, natural aspiration, F1 derived technology, those were all traditional features in the award winning M engines that are now gone.

wrong. they generaly dont make manuals, because auto's can cope with the power alot easier than a manual gearbox. They tend to not weather as well when your putting massive amounts of power through a manual box.

Actually, it will. I have had a C5 Z06 I had with a supercharger (570whp-592whp) and sold it with115,000 miles with stock tranny. Had no problems. If anything, the SMG has received many critics for living many people stranded on road. Mercedes-Benz produces one inefficient 7 speed tranny. At the AMG academy, both the 2010 e63 and an SL63 trannies bugged on me during the track runs. So straighten up your facts mate cuz it looks like you are just talking out of your ass.

not at all. If you look as cars have got quicker, with more power, more companys have gone for auto or smg. FACT.... AMG.. AUTO. BMW M5.. SMG... AUDI RS6 SMG. NISSAN GTR... SMG. LAMOGHINI GALARDO...E-GEAR(SMG). MASSERATI SMG. Not only that shifts are gettin quicker than manuals on the autos, let alone the SMG's hammer manuals on shift speed. Plus when you dont have a human controlling the clutch its harder to break. There facts mate, check yours.

If you look at some more recent pressess, It is heavily believed in the UK that it is to be a 5.5 V10 Twin turbo pushing atleast 600 BHP With Kers system from F1(google it) to give boosts from stored kinetic energy. Abit like NOS but its for free, and its powered when breaking. I will bet alot of money on this been right.

Actually dalesteel, you're wrong. At the recent press meetings, M divisions head of development, Albert Biermann has confirmed that the F10 M5 will use the 4.4L TT V8 from the X5/X6 M, but unlike the X5/X6 M the engine will produce about 600 HP, and it will be paired with the same reworked M-DCT tranny as in the 25TH Anniversary M5 CSL.
