I still see people asking why they remived the V10. It has to do with the emissions. A TT V8 is much more nature friendly then the old V10. Plus it has more HP and about twice as much torque.
Cant beleive they are putting a 4.8l bi-turbo in this car :'( i was expecting a 5.2l v10 bi-turbo (Hyper car killer) and now they give us this shit :( im sorry BMW but if people can afford to pay £70-80,000 on a car they can obviously afford the bloody petrol!
This is just my opinion but I think the e60 and the newer 5 series are getting too ugly. Dont get me started with the new 5 series. Can they put some of the original back and not make it like some crazy chinese man?
This car doesn't have a hood! It is a saloon, not a cabriolet! Much nice looking car than the ugly E60 too - clean lines flowing up over the bonnet and the headlights look better balanced. I was definitely not a Bangle fan...
Better looking than the E60, I can say E39 and F10 could be the best, however Im a bit woundering why they removed the V10 engine and modified it as the hurricain!
yeah the hood looks kind of weak, just like the new 3 series hoods, class always used to be defined by a clean hood, or a mean looking fucker like the m3's.
looks liike somthing james bond would drive...i hope its in the next bond...man this is the nicest bmw to existance fuck the e60 body this is king like the c cooncept
I hope the real version looks like this. This is the only 5 series I like out of this generation but not just because of the obvious performance but the looks.
In terms of design, the f10 itself makes no sense. (It's terrible, I want Chris Bangle back, I HATE the e90 though.) And that M version doesn't achieve much improvement... I was hoping they would make it look good, but that's an unreasonable request, of course. If one prefers this to the e60 i assume they also prefer Lambo to Ferrari. That's so typical and i frown upon that kind of immature car taste.
You seem to be generalizing M car drivers because of a few idiots who buy them simply for the badge but the same can be said about AMGs since their fanbase is mostly composed of middle aged men driving S63 AMGs who conform for automatic transmissions and who pay little interest in handling. But then again saying that would be making the same mistake you did, and I'd be forgetting all about the true AMG enthusiasts who enjoy the actual machine instead of simply the ornament on its hood.
The M division has deviated from many of these traditions with the introduction of vehicles such as the X5/X6 M, & the use of forced induction in the upcoming M5. I am just hoping that in the end this move is worth it & pays off with the final result of the vehicle because to be quite honest they are upsetting a lot of M enthusiasts/purists with these moves and the only reason most of us are still sticking around is because we know that M5s have yet to disappoint & we are hoping this one wont.
true. but people are commenting about it having the X5/X6 M engine (4.4 twin) I cant see that to be honest. I cant see an M car having the same engine as anyother BMW. Where else do you see the current M5 V10? Only M6!. And the New M3 V8 is in no other car. Personaly think it could be 5.5 V10 twin turbo. Be very suprised if its a V8.
yeah.. saying it couldn't be surpased. I love the old E39 too, my dad had one but not the M5, I have got the new e60 M5, and its awesome, just passed a e39 M5on motorway other weekend and they were waving at me. You find a sorta love between M5 drivers lol. Weird! Have to admit i even glanced over to look at e39 because they are still a supercar! and both are very rare.
i think bmw makes their cars thinking about the m cars think about it when theyre normal theyre uglier than the competition but when theyre m they lokk as good as or better than the competition
the reason the downsized the engine was because of emission regulations. they gave bmw 2 yrs to change their v10 engine into something that met regulations better. i do agree that the v10 rev and sound is great...stupid tree huggers
Sorry karmahunden, but your "emissions regulations" theory is inaccurate. The S85B50 meets all current emissions & efficiency regulation. The reason for downsizing it to a TT V8 was because of the fact that in this current economical & market climate, where fuel efficiency & gas mileage are key factors in purchasing a vehicle, the S85B50 is no longer viable in this market. It isn't because of governmental or environmental regulations, it's simply market trends & what makes good business or not.
you are right, that is another factor but what i said isnt a theory my friend, its another fact stated by the bmw group of the emission regulations to be effective within 2 yrs that will disqualify the v10 from abiding. Right know it not breakin nay regulations...2 yrs from now, it will.
Still doesn't make any sense. Why would the BMW group be worried about the S85B50 breaking any regulations in 2 years? If they were to ever use another V10 in an M car it would have to be a completely reworked and re-engineered engine, and they could still have made a 10 cylinder that complies with those regulations. What would have been unlikely is that the would have still been able to meet the markets efficiency standards.
making a v10 comply to whatever standards were set for regulations isnt as easy as you type it. Yes, maybe bmw saw the success on the n54 engine and decided to go for twin turbos. Im sure 90% of the buyers are looking for a torquier daily driver rather than the high rev track machine that was intended to be built.
That's the thing, the M enthusiasts aren't really thrilled for the TT V8. It is a deviation from M tradition and after all the market for these cars isn't composed by everyday people just looking for a fast daily driver, it is made up of long time enthusiasts who enjoy the M divisions' traditional design and engineering. Lightweight construction, High rev capabilities, natural aspiration, F1 derived technology, those were all traditional features in the award winning M engines that are now gone.
true but unfortunately , your statistics and most of them regarding the automobile (sport) market is compose by posers and people that dont have a clue what they are buying...look at mercedes, they know their enthusiast base wants manual tranny, but they know they wouldnt benefit much from its production, so they just dont make it...
Posers? 90% of M car buyers are enthusiasts who actually know what they are buying and what they want, and they are not looking for engines that make compromise for the sake of efficiency, automatic transmissions, or "torquey" straight line daily drivers. They're looking for what an M car was supposed to stand for since its early beginnings, which is the balanced blend of standard BMW luxury/driveability, with the power of a motorsport inspired engine, and unrivaled handling capabilities.
you keep saying the right things but you fail always at one point. Posers? I dont know where you are from buddy but here in Miami cash flows and all I see is housewifes and douchebags with the open shirts driving the m5 for the most. I have seen those enthusiasts, of course, but not in the same degree. Maybe they are all enthusiasts, except they just dont show it? oh well, lets just end this. This discussion is getting stupid.
Just check out your profile...saw one vid and saw you cruising on 595...i dont know how you dont see all this non-enthusiasts driving the ///Ms...to each their own i guess...the e46 m3 does have a strong enthusiast base for example.
Yeah, I'm from Miami as well. I am actually a member of the Palm Beach Driving Club, you should come by one day and see what I mean by enthusiasts. I don't mean the old ladies and douchebags driving M5s to pick up groceries, I mean the hardcore fans of these and other cars that meet with us on the weekends and track them.
if you want to pose you dont buy an M5, they dont look much different than anyother 5 series, I'm not saying they go un-noticed but you get my point. Also, there is some hype about the engine been the 4.4 Twin turbo. It is just rumours and has not been announced, and considering the X5M already has this engine, it more or less rights it out of the equation. Look at the new M3, V8... No turbos. They run under more pressure than a N/A engine (which is why M Div never used them)
wrong. they generaly dont make manuals, because auto's can cope with the power alot easier than a manual gearbox. They tend to not weather as well when your putting massive amounts of power through a manual box.
Actually, it will. I have had a C5 Z06 I had with a supercharger (570whp-592whp) and sold it with115,000 miles with stock tranny. Had no problems. If anything, the SMG has received many critics for living many people stranded on road. Mercedes-Benz produces one inefficient 7 speed tranny. At the AMG academy, both the 2010 e63 and an SL63 trannies bugged on me during the track runs. So straighten up your facts mate cuz it looks like you are just talking out of your ass.
not at all. If you look as cars have got quicker, with more power, more companys have gone for auto or smg. FACT.... AMG.. AUTO. BMW M5.. SMG... AUDI RS6 SMG. NISSAN GTR... SMG. LAMOGHINI GALARDO...E-GEAR(SMG). MASSERATI SMG. Not only that shifts are gettin quicker than manuals on the autos, let alone the SMG's hammer manuals on shift speed. Plus when you dont have a human controlling the clutch its harder to break. There facts mate, check yours.
See mate, you are way off. Who said anything about the SMG's being slower or less efficient than manual trannies? We are talking about just implementing manual trannies for those driving enthusiast that rather drive manual for the feel of it...then you said that the manual tran. couldnt cope with that and I disagreed and explained why. You're getting off topic.
no, i am just saying, they are trying to pull away the use of the clutch by the driver. for speed and reliabilty. It you cant control the clutch, you can break it. Well thats the idea i suppose.
Its the idea of the development of the clutch auto transmissions, but not the reason why they are taking away the manuals. Its like saying cars will drive themselves in the future in order to avoid accidents from human error; yes could be but there will always be those that rather drive themselves...same with manual transmission...i drive a manual not because its more efficient or whatever, its because i enjoy it...so once again you are wrong. Stop talking nonsense
well i would take auto or smg any day of the week, but i understand what your saying sort of. I suppose i can seen how you could enjoy the actual shifting. But when it compromises acceleration then I have to turn away.
the new M5 is a twin turbo V10. Not Twin V8. That is just aload of bollocks thats come from america. If you look at some more recent pressess, It is heavily believed in the UK that it is to be a 5.5 V10 Twin turbo pushing atleast 600 BHP With Kers system from F1(google it) to give boosts from stored kinetic energy. Abit like NOS but its for free, and its powered when breaking. I will bet alot of money on this been right.
Actually dalesteel, you're wrong. At the recent press meetings, M divisions head of development, Albert Biermann has confirmed that the F10 M5 will use the 4.4L TT V8 from the X5/X6 M, but unlike the X5/X6 M the engine will produce about 600 HP, and it will be paired with the same reworked M-DCT tranny as in the 25TH Anniversary M5 CSL.
People - you are fool noobs - the first picture shows an ordinary BMW 5 series F10 and the second one shows M5 F10. It was made in order to notice the difference. I do love the looks of the new M supercar.
Well, infact I don't have that when I see it now. And I have uploaded the same clip on another YT account: then I get 1980 option. So I beleive it is acciunt specific since it is not running 100% yet.
lol I don't care how this thing looks (at the moment) I just want it to destroy the CTS-V. I was upset how they put a fresh new, completely redesigned car from scratch up against a car that was already out for 4 years! Isn't this suppose to have like 600hp? Anyway I like both pics cause they look better than the others I've seen when I 1st saw the car. I see 2nd pic being M5 & 1st pic being 550i
This helped me figure out what exactly I don't like about the new 5: the front bumper. Put a sport bumper on it like the M5 will likely have and it's much much better.
im really disappointed in the next 5 series' exterior. i really thought they were going to keep the bold look, but instead went softer on the edges of the car. the lights really disappointed, but the M looks better
yes i´m agree, the thing is that at the last BMW models like the new 3 series BMW want´s lika a more agressive look for example look at the hood, I prefer the new A6

Hey I'm glad to see you finally got a 1080p option on your video. What did you do differently.
jshaw6000 2 years ago
Well, infact I don't have that when I see it now. And I have uploaded the same clip on another YT account: then I get 1980 option. So I beleive it is acciunt specific since it is not running 100% yet.

lol I don't care how this thing looks (at the moment) I just want it to destroy the CTS-V. I was upset how they put a fresh new, completely redesigned car from scratch up against a car that was already out for 4 years! Isn't this suppose to have like 600hp? Anyway I like both pics cause they look better than the others I've seen when I 1st saw the car. I see 2nd pic being M5 & 1st pic being 550i

damn looks like a bigger sized 3 series in 2nd pic

I Like the 2nd picture alot. The TT V8 will have a better power band and alot more down low tq than the high revving V10.

This helped me figure out what exactly I don't like about the new 5: the front bumper. Put a sport bumper on it like the M5 will likely have and it's much much better.

your so right i hate the new 5 series but with that sport bumper i want a poster of this m5 car..

Looks nice and all but it doesnt look aggressive enough imo. I like my M5 to look like a beast on roids. lol

dimitrismpower 2 years ago 2
Chances are it will have the V8 twin turbo from the X5M which has alot more torque than the V10

Looks very nice, but it reminds me of 3 series more than 5.
eMke3 2 years ago
I am not sure... I just might pick up the current E60. V10!!!
filetitan 2 years ago
That looks sick! I love it! I will miss the V10 though. ///M POWER for life!
stigger91 2 years ago
meh, id still rather have the e60, no m5 will ever sound as good as the v10 in that car

im really disappointed in the next 5 series' exterior. i really thought they were going to keep the bold look, but instead went softer on the edges of the car. the lights really disappointed, but the M looks better
kaystarRAW 2 years ago
yes i´m agree, the thing is that at the last BMW models like the new 3 series BMW want´s lika a more agressive look for example look at the hood, I prefer the new A6
