I just finished reading "Assault" in the Thoroughbred legends series. Wonderful book! I live in Texas so I'm extra proud of Assault. Thanks Carly for the Assault videos that were so much fun to find on youtube after I finished the book:)
Assault sired four foals in the spring of 1951, though they were all accidents to four quarter horse mares xP His trainer thought he was completely sterile and had turned him out in a field with eight quarter horse mares. Nice video btw.
I didn't notice anything in the videos while he was walking, but I read a passage in Woody Stephen's book "Guess I'm Lucky" where he stated that Assault had a permanent limp, from either stepping on a nail or a piece of glass, but that he went on to win the Triple Crown is spite of it. I've got quite a bit of reading material stacked up here for the winter months, LOL
Assault was actually one one the funniest horses. He got his limp when he stepped on a pitchfork when he escaped his barn. He was always sneaky because whenever a jockey or excercise rider was on him he would throw them off. Great horse
