I exchanged mine MacPro after 24 days however they charged me 20% restocking fee. But I got the 15" Core I7 MacBookPro. I ordered it last week and still in Shanghai, China. WTF!
Well atleast the 13' got a small update in processor and better graphics with 10 hour battery. An improvement but i5 would be better. 10 hour battery is cool tho. You can tell apple is just waiting to use the term "round the clock battery"
for me, its totally up to you, the latest the better given that you have the budgt to buy the new macbook. Howevr, there isnt much diffrence in performance between the 2009 and 2010 model, just processr, ram, and video ram upgrade.. still, performance wise regardless of whether it is the latest or the previous one..it always does great and buying a mac lasts for more or less 10 yrs before it can be obsolete.
@MacsAreWayBetter thanks...I see that they now just refreshed the line. I had decided to keep what I had and went with the 27" iMac i5 with 8 gig ram and 1T drive...thanks
I cant imagine theres a huge speed difference between core 2 duo and core i5
i would have been stupid to wait 3 months just to get the latest thing.
only with apple products would having the newest and best mean anything to the user.
i had a crappy toshiba laptop for a year and never cared that it was completely obsolete, yet i'm sure a ton of mac users wish they werent stuck with "obsolete" hardware.
@corndog5595 my i5 iMac vs my macbook pro 17 is alot faster when it comes to video compiling but then again, my i5 has 8gig ram and 7200rpm drive as well as opposed to my 4gig 17 pro with 5400 rpm drive. I would easily gain a jump with jumping to 8 gig ram and either 7200rpm drive or SSD, just havent done that as I dont really need that kind of power at the moment. The i5/i7 jump in the Macbook pros is nice, I was expecting more than just a processor upgrade though
@corndog5595 yeah, they make eyecandy machines...the 15inch is a great machine since I have a friend who has one and loves it...I myself have the 13 and 17...when the SSD's come down i will make the jump
@corndog5595 well, no moving parts...so not just a bit faster, but fastest (I use to design hard drives in my past life and Solid State Memory is the fastest) removes all mechanical access latency, no drive spinning etc. The access of data you will see the biggest boost, like bootup of the machine, and bootup of apps...then it depends on the app as to how much data access vs computing power is needed (ie, databases vs Cad for example). Still too high prices for my wallet...
just wait u already got so many mac dude... wait for better one... coz new processor and gpu matter most so if u ask me keep using ur old mac and wait for new one to come... but that my personal thinking..
In the same boat here, I've been waiting since the iPad release (Expected a release back then). I guess we're kinda past the point of "not waiting". Personally I believe the big hold up on these is the iPad. Remember the i7 was benchmarked back in February. I think they're done but Apple is holding out to give the iPad as much "attention" if it were. Just wait AT LEAST until the iPad release.
It all depends on what u need now & If u wanna wait. Quad core is awesome 4 big things. But u won't die because u didn't get it, I think. Sure, why not get the quad core if u can? But I think u R surrounded by way 2 many macs & forget that some can't even afford toilete paper in the USA. That said; Dude! yOU'VEgOTaMAC! You'll eventually get the other 1 or sell this 1 on Ebay, Tomorow isn't promised 4 u, but then again, you've played with macs long enough that isn't like u missed out. So. there.
I love music production and a quad core is like wow.. But I have on the way a 2.8ghz 4 gigs of Ram and 350 hard drive 15.4" Mac Book Pro. Someone on Ebay was nice enought to let me do paiments on it, for the total of only around $1,500. So I'm just thankful to God I can get that much. I'm sure it'll be better than my moms Vaio. lol.
i think u should wait the change to a new platform will bring something new at the table , maybe a 30 to 40 % increse in performance and the new software buit for 10.6 will come out and blow all beyond .
stop thinking about this for a month go have some fun . sell your macs on ebay or give them away to family . but wait a bit it maybe something good , as shown on the imac 27 , a performance close to a macpro
this platform will be for at least 3 years intel developet the i series for a reason
dont wait for it.. coz the present mbp is quiet powerful enough.. and i think theres no BIG difference with the upcoming chips! just like me i'm getting 1 tomorow!
im having the same problem as well. Should I wait or should i buy now. One thing i know is that if u buy now the current macbookpros are cheaper. IDK in the States but in Japan tday i went to check out the MBP's and the 2.8 GHZs price was reduced from 220.800yen (about 2300 dollars) to 200.000yen same with the 2.6. So if u want the current best atm buy it now or if not just wait. and Cmon the current MBP's r still monsters 2.5-2.8 with 7hours battery life, it cant get any better! but good luck
Hi brother! I would'nt stress about it. Just wait - trust me, it will be worth the wait. The refresh is imminent. I have been told by an apple sales person that the Ipad is slowing down the refresh. It is a marketing thing. Wait - not more than 6 weeks away!! Take care
The Mac Book pro Updates on average every 8 Months but it was due on the 28th of feb by romours ages ago but is delayed , we cannot tell exactly when it is coming but it is coming soon i am also waiting to buy a macbook pro but i am waiting for the updates i think my entire school is .. and school starts mid march
I'm In The Same Situation.....i really am getting fed up right now. I Don't Think The iPad Has much to do with it though. When apple refreshes, it will be the air, macbook pro, & mac pro. The ULV Core i7 processor is going into the air, so apparently apple has kinks to work out. MacBook pro is reportedly getting the Nvidia Optimus GPU, so that may be causing the delay...I'd wait. I Heard rumors of march 16th maybe...IDK, it wont be more than 2 months away though! :)
Rob - I know you (you're a lot like me). Impatient as all get out when you NEED something, but also unsatisfied with anything other than the latest & greatest *that is unless the better model comes out 12 or 18 mths later than what U have*. You will be forever p'd at yourself if you buy the '09 cuz you know, that be it 3 week or 3 mths from now, Apply will release the quad core and you'll need it. Wait till it's released then get it. Try to be patient. Go to bed ......
Always easy to say...Apple is just taunting me now...I wish Steve would get off his high horse and his maxipad product and let us know when its coming out, then I can decide what to do...as opposed to him deciding...thanks bro, appreciate the comment

@robertmasse
well, they stick to what works.
people love the design (me included) of the aluminum macbooks.
they upped the price of the 15" though, right?
if i remember correctly, mine was 1699 but now its 1799.
and, they offer a few different optional upgrades besides just a processor update.
you can now get up to a 500+GB SSD for an extra $1400
and they offer hi res displays 1800x1050 (i think) for an extra $100

they definitely make eye candy machines, but they are power underneath.
just look at the mac pro.
whats the draw to SSD anyway?
sure, more reliable and a little bit faster but for almost the same price as the machine you are buying?

probably only useful to professionals that render and export HD video, do 3d modeling, etc.
and of corse, the hardcore gamer who uses their PC for nothing but gaming.
i bet by the time SSD's become standard we will be moving on to different and more efficient ways of storing data any way.
