Another band that eventually morphed into something watered down, i.e. ELO and found chart success here in the US. Having heard this song, Fire Brigade, California Man, and Do Ya! et al, i now prefer The Move to Move Lite (ELO)
I love this album, but I think the remastering sucks; it's one thing to make the music louder, such as the case with remastering, but the bass just booms which is not how it sounds on the original LP & even import CD issues.
It sounds like it would have been worthy of something like the Beatles delivered on Revolver; a deliciously extended approximation of "Rain" & "Paperback Writer" combined.
Despite the consistent high qualiy of their music in all their many personnel changes, this band could never break in the USA. This album in particular is a great balance of Wood and Lynne songs. Seems that their stuff came out on so many different labels in the States in their career that it was hard to market and they never (or rarely) played the States, to my knowledge, which didn't help.
whoever is playing bass is copping Ace Kefford, and you can't.

I'm so thankful to have been open minded as an American teenager when this was released-none of my friends know it-who cares? Fabulous vocals...

Brilliant album from a brilliant period of musical creativity. Sadly lacking today.

Can't help but smile at the familiarity of both this song and "10538 Overture".

how do we escape this new stuff its tempting aggressive outragouse and eventualy sickening i like these old songs help me let go of the hurt
archie977 11 months ago
@archie977 Embrace the hurt, it defines and completes you. I find strangling a Katy Perry voodoo doll helps when the pain gets too great.

@crapple009 Yeah. Roy plays bass on the whole of the album, but he may have been recording over Rick Price on some tracks.

Excuse me, I have many times judged may so called negative comments.
I don´t agree. But wasn´t this album released in autumn 1971 before the first ELO album in December 1971 ?
Only California Man single was released in 1972.
FinnMove 2 years ago
Yes, you're right, thanks for noting me. I'll change it round.

I did the laparotomy operation last week.
It left today hospital.
It seems to listen to this beautiful melody, and to heal at once the wound. Thank you.

Jeff Lynne at his best.
This song belongs to the top 10 Jeff´s best compositions.

The electric 12 string [ roy wood ] definately adds something to it [ and the beach boys style harmonies ].
spacepatrolman 2 years ago
I agree Beach Boys harmonies.
But this is something about psychedelic version of that.
