BestBuy screwed up my would be $3000 MacBook Pro. I had them do an upgrade in store when I was going to purchases it today, when they turned it on it didn't work at all so glad I didn't spend 3 grand there. I orders one off of Apple.com instead.
I used to work for BB and I'll tell you we push the geek squad protection because not everyone is as experienced with macs or computers in general. I've seen cd/dvd jams of all types and once a lady just dropped her MBP on the counter "cuz it don't work". Rather than argue with these people we get them to get the protection so if anything goes wrong they can just get a new unit. They really really frown upon low warranty sales at bb. Let's just say that also.
I use to sell those warranties there all a bunch of dog shit if something major happens they wont repair it anyway they'll try to contact the manufacture then send it to them takes forever!!!! No actual "REPAIR" going on, not worth it just in stress & time..... Hard drives dies it takes an average of a month to do a 3-15 min job...
Apples warranty doesn't cover dropping. Best buy does. The charge is expensive for parts and labor. You had a new salesman probably. We're not all bad.
I used to work for Best Buy. No they don't work on commission but they do have daily goals. DON'T EVER buy warranties for computers at best buy. Ive seen them ruin so many computers trying to fix them then charge the customer for all the parts and labor. Best Buy in general sucks. My employee discount was 5% above cost for what best buy pays for product. they rip customers off so bad. Example- 12 foot Insignia hdmi cable is $49.99 for customers, I got it for $3.29. They rip you off so bad
its true! fucking fags i got a new computer on january and the fucking charged me for the antivirus that had already came with the computer and charged extra for " in case it gets a virus." Supposadly that antiviruses just aware your computer has a virus! Friek no my antivirus blocks and neutrializes all the viruses it would ever get! Fuck these guys then kept reminding us for a fucking warranty!
spent a $1,000 on an HP Pavilion laptop from Staples, and their Easy Tech service was an absolute nightmare! laptop died after a months use. sent in for repairs and was given a bunch of false lies and excuses for the next 3 months, nor did they provide me with a computer I could use!!! eventually got the HP laptop back, and it died again! unbelievable!!!
So now I'm a full Apple Convert. Enjoying my brand new 17" MBP! never going back to a crappy piece of s*** PC laptop ever....
@reviewsbysteve if you want something done right, do it yourself. No one will do a better job than your personal self, if you have some skills with a computer.
Very nice computer! Congrats. I've had my current MacBook pro for almost 2 years and love it. As for the bestbuy warranty, it's crap. Overpriced and like you said, the majority of the geek squad have no clue what they are doing
I'm sorry to say, but they mentioned about the warranty once. I was going to the gym, but instead go to Best Buy for something and ended up with something else. Anyways, wasn't dress nice, so maybe that's the trick. Don't go in like someone who can pay a warranty and you'll be safe. Gamecrazy is a fanatic about selling pre-orders and warrants.
I just recently purchased a MacBook Air from a local Best Buy and I walked out of there much happier than I could have imagined. It wasn't like the Apple Store but it was a very good experience and I absolutely love the Air.

@i7msc15283
I ALSO had the same exact problem with a Laptop warranty a few years ago from BestBuy.
I could've fixed the laptop myself in less than an hour, it took them almost two months.
Problem: a Bad Hard drive... You've got to me kidding me, two months to change a fricken hard drive..
Best Buy repair SUCKS big time..

You didn't by the warranty? SMART. It is like flushing $200plus.
I bought a MacBook Pro too to replace my computer which Best Buy refused to honor their agreement.
Best Buy are LIARS nationwide. I live in the Northwest and it is sad to see little companies being demolished by crappy companies.

You are right, I've heard many stories about how BAD the geek squad is.
Heck I've been using, building and fixing computer longer than most of those guys have
been alive.

@elchamber
Great Advice..
(But if you can afford a $1700 laptop, I think they think that you can afford $350
more for their warranty.)

Almost bought the Air, but thought the 13" screen might be too small.
