  • Is it dead?

  • @orhanlyn As we've noted with other comments, this is a common concern from our viewers of this video as you may see as you read through the other comments. The calf is not dead. It takes awhile for it to stand (which is normal). You'll also see we have a video where the calf is up and running around.

  • Wow it would be tough to give birth in front of such a crowd of people making noise and staring. I was thankful to not see humans rushing in but that the other giraffes were coming around and giving support. Thanks for sharing!

  • It is not dead and the mother will kick the calf to make sure it can stand and repeat this process until it knows it remembers the calf can stand on its own

  • Did anyone else notice the thing hanging out of the Mother's butt after the birth?????

  • @KingdomKittens That would be the afterbirth. Something hanging out would only be a concern if it was a prolapsed uterus, and that doesn't seem to be the case here.

  • It must be irritating having a bunch of loud humans watch lol

  • the zebras like what the heck is going on!?!?

  • OMG OMG OMG 0_o

  • @dpzoo ...ok i think its dead...

  • @ForeverLeah1 No, the calf did not die. The video simply ends when the birth process ends. The calf stood after a time and is just fine.

  • LMFAO@ the curious zebra looool

  • Whats that hanging after the giraffe feel?

  • @PrincessADT I think what you are seeing is the placenta.

  • @dpzoo what's that?

  • @HappyLappyNappy If you are asking what the "placenta" is, that is part of the afterbirth. It's the source of nutrition for the calf before it is born.

  • it didnt move is it dead?

  • @bem49525 This is a common concern from our viewers of this video. The calf is not dead. It takes awhile for it to stand (which is normal). You'll also see we have a video where the calf is up and running around.

  • lovely. why not see something falling out of somethings arse!!!

  • Hey is the other giraffe a papa or some kind of giraffe midwife?:)))

  • You might call the other giraffe a midwife of sorts. It's another of our adult females - a companion of the mother.

  • Hey, is the other giraffe guy a papa? Or some kind of giraffe midwife?:))))

  • whoa! that was crazy and cool. I kind of surprised that they would just have their babies out in the open like that. I know that's what they would do in the wild but i thought the might get pampared so by the zoo keepers. What what the baby Giraffe named? was it male or female?

  • Our zookeepers only get involved in the births if there is a problem. Otherwise, it isn't uncommon for the births to happen during the day when guests are in the park. And, this was a female calf named Lexi.

  • oh, Cool good to know. i hope she is doing alright

  • freddiemercuryiscool - your comment has been removed because of foul language. (March 10, 2010)

  • 1st word: Holy 2nd word: CRAP!!!

    And it looks dead...Ummmm...

  • The calf is not dead. It takes awhile for it to stand (which is normal). You'll also see we have a video where the calf is up and running around.

  • ouch. you can't come back from that(quote from baby mama ROLF)

  • its like... dead

and the zebra's gettin hyped up about it

  • @mcduck428 No, the giraffe calf is not dead. It typically takes a little time for the calf to stand. We have a second video showing the calf up and running.

  • lol zebra wants some drama

  • What kind of giraffe are that they look beutifull more than the giraffe that lives in Africa jaja Please tell me the breed!!

    Thanks

  • @fashlumil We have Baringo (also known as Rothschild) giraffes.

  • I've read that the giraffe calfs fall when at birth but I've never seen it :)

  • holy crap now thats just hecky nasty... ew.. when the mom is almost done.. the newborn just goes.. bloop.. and falls on the ground... i think that killed it... it didnt move :[[ oh well. idk.. and wat the heck is that red ball thing on the mom giraffe???

  • @MsMeri28 The giraffe calf is not dead - it just takes a while for the calf to stand. There's another video showing the calf up and running. The "red ball" you see is part of the placenta that the mother passes later.

  • zebra fails

  • is it alive its like not moving

  • @Amanda2617cp The giraffe calf is not dead. It takes a while (sometimes 30 minutes to an hour) for the calf to stand. You'll see another video on our channel that shows the calf up and running. She is just fine!

  • Oh. Thank You.

  • wow no mames! imaginate como le kedo el c.u.l.o!!!

  • even the Zebra wants to know whats going on!

  • is it dead and wats that red spot on the mom

  • wonder if animals wouls scream like women when they reproduce if they had the ability lol, Most act like it's no big deal.

  • Most animals are prey, so to yell out is bad because it attracts attention to you and your newborn from predators, plus generally the skull size of a human baby is so much larger than that of any animal relative to the size of the mother, so her cervix has to undergo such a greater amount of brachystasis (the painful part where the cervix contracts and stays open for the baby to pass out) than other animals. :)

  • Hahaha all the other giraffes are so nosey lol but I bet they are saying Congrats! I wish I could hear animals talk sometimes :)

  • that zebra's nosey!!!
