What is the name of the song? I can't find it anywhere! I searched what you suggested but i still couldn't find it . Could you email me the full song?
WOW!! If I want to take pictures of the sky/stars like you did here, is 50mmF1.8 good or 30mmF2.8 do a better job? I should go for the lenses with the lowest possible F numbers right?
Hey mate, do you have a list of the gear you use? I'd like to get into photography more and I'd love to be able to take shots half as stunning as this.
@frankytap I use a standard kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5) and get pretty decent results, a f/2.8 would be better. I'm still wanting a full frame DSLR or a sub 18mm lens to get more of the sky though.
it's great that technology has enabled us to show the true beauty of the universe to people who might never know it existed.. and this has got to be one of the greatest examples!
Hi this is an amazing video the clarity is fantastic when you shoot these frames does it link them as one file or are you using a program to play them back at so many fps.
At 4 seconds into the video...do you actually see that when your far enough away from light pollution, i mean...does that huge formation actually fill up the sky like that? Basically, I live in a city, so i never see the night sky like this...
@q23gf8902h3g4j being at a high elevation where the atmosphere is thin makes a huge difference too. That's why telescopes are placed on mountains or volcanoes. "like Keck for example"
yes, a DSLR with wide-angle lens (18mm kit lens will do for the beginning) and a tripod is all you need. Wide open aperture (f/2.8 or f/3.5) and 15-30 seconds at ISO 3200. If you want to make a time lapse then you need an intervalometer for your camera, which you can get for $30 on ebay. Then set it to click through the night with the minimal delay. Another item you would want is an external battery to get more than 300 shots out of it.
@terrastro If i use anything above 50 iso the picture is as grainy as hell. I live in a very light poluted area and use a very crap samsung digimax v800, f2.8, focal length 8mm-23mm (35mm focal length 38-114). Any ideas?
@terrastro At first my compliments for your wonderful creations, I've read about your council to take picture on long exposure, you have some tutorial to start to produce timelapse video like yours?

absolutely mesmerizing video. good job.
random, but what's the reason that you can only see such stars like this away from cities?
q23gf8902h3g4j 7 months ago 9
@q23gf8902h3g4j
because street lights, cars and other lights emit upwards and make the sky background brighter than most of the stars.

Really great. Do allmost all the places show stars like that, or does it depend on the place of the earth that your on?
And one more thing, does a IR Filter helps to capture that?
nesquikADDICTED 7 months ago
@nesquikADDICTED You need to be far away from city lights to see the Milky Way like that. No IR filters used.
terrastro 7 months ago
@terrastro humn, just away from the city then. No Special cameras, no special filters nothing? [:
Just the camera settings.
