BTW, are there always some expermentation on second games of franchises? Final Fantasy 2 also had some experiments about a unique (and crappy) experience system.
I'm not interested in those games. usually I play game for the SNES, GBA, DS, N64 and the Sony consoles. I tried watching a Castlevania 2 walkthrough to see for myself if the game is as horribly as the nerd said it is.
The good NES games are really good, but there are also tons of bad games. In those days, there was no internet to recommend games. So from what I've heard' you could either trust Nintendo only and play Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and Metroid, or try to reach for other games, which was naturally a gamble. You could end up with a decent game, like Final Fantasy or Castlevania, or you could end up with something bad, like Ghostbusters.
Also, some of the good NES games were really hard, like Ninja Gaiden and Zelda 2. And thirdly, any game I want to play for the NES has a GBA port, except Castlevania 3.
@AstralAstaroth Yes what you are saying is partially correct but you're forgetting magazines (the 80's internet) and people rented a lot more games back then and word of mouth spread quickly. My dad and I used to rent around 2 games a week. (for only 2 dollars a game) You also have to remember just like today there was 3rd party company loyalty. Konami one of the best back than and today was always a shoe in for quality and a satisfying experience. Capcom was the same, along with many others.
Yes, that is correct too. NES games are naturally short, so they are easily rentable. Almost everyone could spare two to five hours a weekend to finish an NES game. Even Final Fantasy is less than ten hours long
Can't have this privilege today. Even simple platformers take over 15 hours, and 3D-gen RPG's have gone from ten hours in the NES days, to about fifty hours without sidequests! And with sidequests, even Final Fantasy Fightathon (13) took me over a hunderd hours.
@AstralAstaroth What you've heard isn't really true. In the NES days, you had reputable companies (Capcom & Konami) and established franchises (Megaman, CastleVania, Double Dragon) just like you do today. You also had games/franchises notoriously bad (LJN and pretty much any of their movie-adaptations.) Word of mouth always existed, plus rental stores were much more prevalent back then.
i actually love this game....its not as good as the fist one on the nes but if you would combine the two people would be calling it one of the best games on the syestem this game rocks!
@TheTerrificTracy Yeah I know, well it was official in that it was a licensed games and it was published by Nintendo itself and later released in Japan as Super Mario USA, but I know the first real Super Mario Bros. 2 was only released in Japan at the time.
It made sense, but if you want to grind, you'd normally just want to beat up enemies, and not want to stick to a specific weapon or spell or do things like hurting yourself on purpose.
@AstralAstaroth Quite frankly though, Final Fantasy II on the Famicom was very playable for me. I only needed to grind stupidly a lot for the end boss, but otherwise I played through the game as normal never worrying about anything and it worked fine. Not to say that the system was without its flaws, but I really liked it.
I don't mean it's a bad game, People juast hate changes, and the level up system doesn't make it total ass, but enough to make it uncomparable to staple games. Second experimental franchises are just not up to par with games like Final Fantasy 6, Super Castlevania 4 and Link to the Past.
Hmm...Now that I think about it,having bloody tears is one of the most emo things anyone can think of yet,its kind of badass just telling someone that.

@AstralAstaroth Zelda II and Super Mario Bros. 2 also come to mind, maybe it was more frequent on the NES.

Ha ok, well all the points the nerd mentioned in his review are valid as you could probably see.

Mermen, platforms and instant-death water... smells like a potential area for some frustration.

You weren't kidding about this game being cryptic. There's no way I used half of the this stuff correctly.
And these townspeople are very nosy of your business! Why can't they get their own whips to defeat Dracula, huh?!

Can't remember exactly since it was recorded a little while ago, but at the entrance of a Mansion I think I might've used them.
