The riot police dress the way they do with shields, helmets and armor plated clothing because they have to based on Korean history of violent protests. Koreans will protest when things get too good in their country because there is nothing to protest.

What happened during this time period was that alot of citizens were protesting but in a very radical way such as taking over buildings and arming up weapons. It wasnt a problem about the protesting part, but the radical action part is what forced the government to mass rally the police to surpress the violent actions. My second comment did refer to the police in general, however if they're going to be policing they need to set an example by all acting respectably and setting an example (not escalating the situation). It's a poor show on the police force as a whole if their training doesn't include self control, they were armoured and didn't appeared worried, hence it was a poor show on their part (poor training leads to poor officers and poor service).

However if your cousin had been given proper equipment and trained properly by the police, then it's likely that an injury like that wouldn't have happened. The police are there to keep order and deal with dangerous situations (it's part of their job) and if they can't do that, then they're not doing their job properly. It's all proper training, like i said my city's police can handle them situations.
Not exactly, we do get proper training. Have you heard of South Korea's army? It's one of the largest army and we had helluva a lot of training. I was in the Security Battalion in the DMZ, and we had a kill ratio of 1:25 in Vietnam, who were almost all formed of recruits who were drafted. We also get though trainings, and besides the shields are made for blocking lead pipes, not speeding nails. Also there is no way you could dodge the shot when the man was firing at a full battalion.
@woo1693 I would also like to add that my home police do a brilliant job at policing when they need to (it's silly government targets that screw them over). In fact my home city police recently managed to keep a normally violent "political" group called the "english defence league" suppressed with minimum casualties, despite being attacked by fireworks, bricks and even flash/bang grenades, this including animal officers (horses). The worse injured protester even commended them on their restraint

apparently there some misconfusion whats going on. What happened during this time period was that alot of citizens were protesting but in a very radical way such as taking over buildings and arming up weapons. It wasnt a problem about the protesting part, but the radical action part is what forced the government to mass rally the police to surpress the violent actions. Its both sides that cause the violence, not just the police.

A lot of these rioters are paid sit in professionals. There are companies that stages riots at all levels. Many so called democratic demos are often orchestrated by N. Korea to destabilize the society. Not surprisingly there are over 30,000 active N.K operatives and over 150000 sleepers; not too mention "influences" from China, US and Russia attempt to control the political consensus. It's a miracle this country can survive and now thrive to be the part of g20 and 13th largest economy.

@C0SM1CG4TE If i was a police officer and was attacked then i would however i don't see how that guy was attacking the policeman, he was just standing there (i am talking about the guy at 28 seconds), he was taking a mildly aggressive stance (pointing the flag at them) but wasn't actually taking action (even defensive) and yes it'll be edited to be biased but i made my decision based on what i have available. He was attacked and didn't even defend himself. Very poor show by the police.

My second comment did refer to the police in general, however if they're going to be policing they need to set an example by all acting respectably and setting an example (not escalating the situation). It's a poor show on the police force as a whole if their training doesn't include self control, they were armoured and didn't appeared worried, hence it was a poor show on their part (poor training leads to poor officers and poor service).

Yet the people refuse to show the footage of what the protesters do. My cousin's friend served in the riot police due to mandatory service, and a protester shot a nail gun directly in his eye, blinding him. This happened before they even engaged the protesters

@woo1693 Well if it's mandatory then i can't truly say your cousin was part of the true police. However if your cousin had been given proper equipment and trained properly by the police, then it's likely that an injury like that wouldn't have happened. The police are there to keep order and deal with dangerous situations (it's part of their job) and if they can't do that, then they're not doing their job properly. It's all proper training, like i said my city's police can handle them situations.

Not exactly, we do get proper training. Have you heard of South Korea's army? It's one of the largest army and we had helluva a lot of training. I was in the Security Battalion in the DMZ, and we had a kill ratio of 1:25 in Vietnam, who were almost all formed of recruits who were drafted. We also get though trainings, and besides the shields are made for blocking lead pipes, not speeding nails. Also there is no way you could dodge the shot when the man was firing at a full battalion.

@woo1693 I would also like to add that my home police do a brilliant job at policing when they need to (it's silly government targets that screw them over). In fact my home city police recently managed to keep a normally violent "political" group called the "english defence league" suppressed with minimum casualties, despite being attacked by fireworks, bricks and even flash/bang grenades, this including animal officers (horses). The worse injured protester even commended them on their restraint
