When I was attending college in Sacramento, I often went for lunch to the original Shakey's on J Street. (Yes, Sacramento is where Shakey's got started.) Now that glorious old brick building stands vacant--I tell you, it's enough to make a grown man cry.
@ELVINKNOX Hell yeah i remember Wright's Barnyard!!! It borke my heart when they closed it down. Same thing can be said for Frair Tuck's video arcade off 159th street.
I lived in Virginia Beach Va We had a shakey's and it was my favorite pizza and Sorry Chucky Cheese may be great for little kids but there pizza sucks. Shakey's had excellent pizza.
They had that little chicken quarter machine in the front. It would make a clucking noise as your toy came out! Me and my cousins would sneak away from our tables just to play. That video makes me home sick.
That is sad, i remember as a young boy going almost every weekend with the family , i can still smell the place to this day. do you remember the guys who played music i think a bango & old piano player , luvd it so much , i also was great cuz i worked at the old Regency steak house right next door from 1979 to 1982 and lived rite down the street on price ave.
Thanks for posting this. Shakeys had good pizza! It was the closest 1970's kids had to Chuckee Cheese. It was greatness. Remember Friar Tucks arcade across the street?
Aww man!!! Who could forget Friar tucks, man!?!? I teared up a little when they closed it a few years ago. No places for people who appreciated the coin operated games anymore. A damn shame.
I remember sterks and the fro yo stand faintly...cause i lived in ford heights and mainly came tto cal city for either river oaks mall, shakeys, or friar tuck arcade across the street from shakeys.
remember the toys r us on 159th in calumet city,il.?
it was also shown on ''thats incerdible'' a tv show in the 70's....
as being huanted by a child spirit, where the investigators laid down baby powder and found foot prints. amazing!

The Shakey's pizza buildings that they built out here in New England in the early 70's were very distinguishable.
There are two that are still intact and are used. One is on Boston Road in Springfield Mass and the other is on Riverdale Road in Springfield Mass.

@zerozander Yep. And still home to one of the better cheap-but-satisfying lunches you'll run across anywhere.
