  • thx alot, your tutorial help me alot

  • Wow about 19 minutes to make such a simple animation of a walking cycle? SERIOUSLY whoever uses 3ds max has probable TOO much time on their hands and doesnt have any friends or a gf.....wheres that forever alone meme...

  • If u want to animate something u have to observe something ... i dont think u are going out to much ... just look outside from window and see how peoples walk ... u done this in 19 mins i make a perfect walk cycle in 45 mins ... this is how u do it ..

  • This Isnt Walking Its Running

  • This biped must have had a million dollar grant from the Ministry of Silly Walks.

  • even this tutorial is not really good, but still it helps me alot. thank you :D

  • this is not a walk cycle.

  • I think it's a bit too exaggerated, but still nice work : P Using some IK chains would probably make it easier and smoother, non?

  • this is not a walk cycle, a walkcycle is a walking loop in one spot, without moving forward. just saying so people won't be confused. this is an animated walk.

if you want to do a walkcycle don't move you figure forward instead slide the feet over the ground. like moon walking ;)

  • Sorry dude, but that was more confusing than it was helpful.

  • why do people using 3d s max use 98

  • @krishnasainunna i thinks its cause Bill Gates told everyone Indow98 is the fastest, but 3dsMax doesn't use much memory anyway

  • Well... I needed help to understand the Planted Key thing, but I don't think you understand it neither. And the result is creepy...

  • FUCKIN BAD MAN ITS a GREAT FAIL :D

  • dude you click so many times that I just don't know what to do :(

  • you can to increase your resolution i can't see anything except for blur images/videos.

  • dude its way hard, ill just go and download a walk cycle thats all.

  • Can someone tell me how I can lock down 1 foot or the other, so i can move Biped, yet keep the foot where it is. looked over the net, found nothing

  • So once you made this biped, how do you make this move another model character?

  • @RevillJake Skin

  • Wow, this is awful. No idea what he's saying...

  • Are you french? Because it sounds like you're saying c'est quoi (that is). Would that be like saying "Like that"?

  • Have you heard of copy and paste frames?

  • tanks man you is very LoL

  • Thank you very MUCH!

  • obvious troll is obvious.

  • How I can connect biped unit with some dinosaur or dragon? If I want create movement for some dinosaurs and so on? Thanks lot for help..

  • that really does suck lol, theres better tutorials than this if you want to animate a basic walkcycle

  • My body vertical does not work. Please help

  • How can I make the body more human looking please?

  • what kind of software is this? please reply

  • it says in the title of the video - it is 3d Studio Max version 7...

  • oohh....is it possible to download it on google? 0_o

  • where can i get a biped?

  • O.o Well if you are that inocent....I'll tell ya.

If you have 3DS Max,then you can find the biped in the Create--->Systems--->Biped.

  • LOL! So bad walk cycle! And vid is 19mins! OMG I just wasted 19mins of my life! D:

  • Cool! Chineese dude!

  • do they painfully animate game/film characters like this?

  • Yeah, This is how you do it.

    Well do it good anyway.

  • Yea, or they use Mocap.

  • You didn't know?

when you get in to game company all you do is animate character frame by frame and adjust mo-cap data frame by frame

or if you are a programmer you wrestle with codes.

  • You are talking about animators by saying 'all you do is animate'. but the animators need Models to animate

+ i want to be 3D Artist (3D Modeler) not an animator.

  • @sonictherapid yes they do lol

  • @sonictherapid no, they would probably used motion capture

  • @CHAZZimator

    Both.

I think this method used to be. in new gen games like Uncharted, they used the motion capture.

  • @sonictherapid There's also MoCap(MotionCapture) save a lot of time, but again, its not perfect.

  • @sonictherapid yes. But its different because when a company are making a game or film u have like 50 people doing animations so its done quicker...

  • @sonictherapid

No; Ever heard of motion capture?

  • @TheCrapulence

They do animate like this for games... and use the MC for movies.

  • @sonictherapid Yes, they use mc for movies and they also use it for games too... Just about every game released these days uses motion capture. Google it.. Ive done mocap at uni ive had to research this before...

  • @eatfrisbee

It's about time I posted the comment...

I know that... movies use MC aswell as Next Gen games like Uncharted.

Don't throw this method away... not everything animated is supposed to have a human skeleton..

I see you went to Uni. I'm aiming at SCAD for visual effects.

  • @sonictherapid yaa its a bit true

  • @yusolaifdfer

    Heey it's very true.

  • @sonictherapid yes, it realy does suck, but its something that must be done

  • @sonictherapid not in these days, usually they have actors with body suits and sensors from cameras pick up movements and correlate those movements to a animated body

  • @InnovationalFilms

Found that out a while back... Motion Capture.

  • @sonictherapid its fascinating tech isnt it?

  • @InnovationalFilms

Yes, very. But I think it's very limited aswell; you can't move a giant monster with 4 arms like this...

  • @sonictherapid true, and if you ask me the film industry needs more giant monsters with 4 arms and such ;)

  • @sonictherapid nah. they mostly use motion capture

    - but in some unordinary animations yes.

  • @Filo127 Nah... Motion Capture is the new way, but isn't the way to animate everything.

  • @sonictherapid well yes, but they use it for a lot of animations - especialy in games - in mafia2 they did almost all of them with motion capture - i saw a video where they explained it. but i think that in movies like etc. from pixar they do animate them similary like this

  • @Filo127

Well, the MC is the newest way. but can you rig an octopus using it? It doesn't depend on preferring this or that. If you're animating a mesh that fits the human skeleton, MC is the way. Otherwise, you'll find yourself forced to use this.

  • @sonictherapid well yes, its true that you cant use motion capture on monster characters or anything like that. but with people - you can use it for almost anything

  • @Filo127

True... but the fact that MC is only limited to the human body is a big deal... I wonder if it could be used on animals...

  • @sonictherapid well as i saw - they use these black outfits with diods - so maybe you could make one for a dog or something

or have a person act like hes a dog - this way mc could be used for any animal with 4 limbs

    XD

  • @Filo127

Well well... you could use it for a running panther. The result, a panther with a frog run. xD

  • @sonictherapid hahah yea XD

  • @sonictherapid no they tend to use a system where a person wears special receptors on various joints which can be picked up by a camera, the computer can then make the animation straight from it.

  • @chavseatmydust

It's called Motion Capture. And no, it's not effective every time.

  • @sonictherapid yes and no. no b/c companies that have a good budget could just get a team that can correctly have actors act out and use "perfomance capture" to get in sync with the avatar/3d model. yes b/c some companies are on a budget and can't really afford to have this kind of technology. but in the ir future it will be posiveble even for indie 3d film makers to have use of this technology.

  • @sonictherapid and honestly it is a nnoying and painfull to rigg but hey i love it ^^

  • @Hanser19

Recently started doing custom anims. Each frame takes so much time, care and effort, Before you know it, You've lost about half an hour on a couple of frames. But yet the escitment to seee the finished result keeps you going :D

  • @sonictherapid yes, or they use mocap but that has its own head aches.

  • can u save action and later make another character perform the same thing ?

  • can you put more than 100 frames ...plz reply

  • yes you can. there is a weird calculator icon with a clock infront of it at the bottom, press it and adjust more frames with the "frame count"

  • yes. look at the play button in 3ds max. next to it should be the next frame button, and next to that(to the right) should be the end frame button. Under that is another button. Press it. Edit you're frame amount in there.

  • yes you can add more then 100 frames

  • Max.. bleh indeed

  • damn ...cant hear you cant see where you are clicking, cant understand whatya say at all.

  • wtf i can not see where you click and simple ? ahah

  • max....bleh.

  • ...Nothing to Learn Making simple Biped walk a tough Job..he could have used Footstep Cycles

  • Thanks, Your are the best

  • lol what do you not auto key???? when not transformation reset key info

  • lol what do you not auto key???? not transformation reset key info

  • THNX ALLOT it was allot of help in my transformers models

  • you should speak up, speak clearer and get a better recorder like camtasia

  • not a walk cycle, in a walk cycle skeleton not moves from its place!

  • why is everyone so mean!!!!!!! god damn! good job man:)

  • you are an idiot! this is not a walk cycle this is 2 steps! there is no cycle to it!

  • your the idiot, you only need two steps for a walk cycle. just copy and paste the key frames. lazy ass.

  • He's right this isn't a walk cycle, 2 steps and copy and paste is just too damn lazy.

  • that was shit

  • omg just like a 3d version of tisfat

(look it up if ur wonderin)

great tut it helps a lot

  • a BIT more complex but yeh, kinda similar :)

  • i've did my animation but now how do i export it as a video?

  • If your in 3Ds Max click the render scene dialog botton the one with a picture of a tea pot with the dialog box over it. Goto render output save it as an avi. goto time output chose active time segment. You can also read about rendering under the help menu.

  • yeah thanks but I can't put the object to biped!

  • can u make a biped in gmax i have 3ds max but im just wnderin

  • Hammerbchen, when you have trouble when setting the auto key, when it makes the feet go up again, it's because you didn't change the pivot in the previous planted key so it goes to the previous pivot.

  • Amazing tutorial once again hammerbchen, thank you :) I'm looking forward for more videos from you they are all useful.

  • how do i assign these bipeds to meshes...

  • you put them under your mesh, lets say a human model. Then you apply the Skin modifier to the mesh, add the biped parts to that.

Then it is basically all connected, but you have to paint weights to make it look and work correctly which can take quite sometime.

  • i did not ask this question...

  • then what exactly are you asking

  • hey how do u make a character like this??!?!?!? i need help ty!!!please post i video comment thanx!

  • That`s easy, click the create button between View and Modifiers, than enter systems and select biped. And than draw in the field!

  • at first it sounds like a walk psycho LOL ! no offence dude great vid

  • hm nice, but u need more praktis, try making bones animation its cool, but takes time too make the bone setup,

  • Once youve created the base animation for one foot, u can copy and mirror that action for the other foot. Then you can copy the animation by selecting the keys and moving them along the timeline and paste. Saves uber amounts of time.

  • can you make an tutorial for backward walking ?please ,

  • Hallo!

When i use the move, and rotate and scale tool, there's used to be like an cross, like in

00.50,it have dissapear'd,so now there's just like an cross.

How can i get it back?

Hope someone understands my bad english;)

    Thanks!

  • Knutte93: Press X

  • it took me every key on the keyboard and a a few re-installs to figure that one out... where ever i looked - no answer. exept....utube :P

well actually mine SHRUNK to a size soo small and i couldnt do nofin.

it shrunk every time i loaded max by half its size.

    then i figured it out

  • For games this won't work coz you can't move the body horizontly if animating for games.

  • All animation in Assassins Creed is made with the biped.

  • What you would do is animate it out like this then take each keyframe and align it to 0,0,0 or whatever the origin needs to be for the game.

But doing a walk in place animation is pretty easy

  • hey, i have a question if i may. uh, the thing at the left side of the screen, how do you bring that up?? when i go to animation mode, i dont see it up for me..:( anyone know how to bring the animation tool bar from the left screen showing..?

  • First you have to hit the motion wheel up on the right side, When you have the biped selected hit the Key Info tab ( + key ) you will now see the set key, planted keys. to change the location of planted key, hit the + key in IK here you push select pivot, adn mouse clik where you wanna have it. Hope this helps :)

  • aww, ur sweet for helping me :) but um, i got lost at the biped part. i sound stupid i know :( but, where you go see the biped & the (+ key) part?

  • you can find the biped under systems, to the far right of geometry. the help menu has alot of helpful info.

  • i use left mode.... and i can easily make it.... there are few walk and run of mine u can try.... for check and let us know

  • aw, thats really cool :) heyya, u think theres any way you can teach me how to get started on this walking animation..? :P

  • I was trying to make walk cycle for two days. I ended up with something like in this tutorial. But I can't make it loop over and over again. Maybe someone can point this out for me??

  • I don't know if you've already found out, but anyway here is what to do:

In place where you have playback buttons, there is another button called Time Configuration, click it, in the window that popups you will find a box "Loop", check it and you should see the animation loop over and over again.

  • This isn't really a Walk Cycle, its just a walk sequence. A walk cycle is much different from a simple walk because in a cycle your character would stay in the center of the screen while everything around it moves. To animate that you need to produce a sideways figure-eight motion that will have your character move back and forth in a set region somewhere near the center.

  • the first 1:11 secound made me want it

  • how can I delete all my keyframes

  • click on the key and press delete on ur keyboard

  • where do u get this program?? give me a link plzz

  • Autodesk provide you 30-days trail of 3ds max 2009 with full-features and saveable

  • xcx

  • "I solved the problem, I have yellow keyframes, when it wouldn't work I only had a red one."

I went back to try to animate again and found I ran into the same problem! I can only set red key frames, how do I set the yellow one so I can actually animate the bip01 up and down?

  • Lol its allright pal :)

  • I cant hear or understand what he's saying its kinda anoying

  • sorry for the low sound volume and the bad English too

  • set key, planted key, sliding key, spine, body horizontal, body vertical .these r the key words ..guess u'll be able to follow now.

  • isn't footstep mode in Max 7? i don't remember.

  • You are realy good. you should make more tutorials like this.

  • For me you are a genious, I just started with 3ds Max. Thank you very much for help :)

  • I can't move the body up and down, if I set a key for the body (Bip01) and then a few frames later I move it and set a new key, it's in the new position for every key, it wont animate.

  • that is because you are under "figure mode". Turn off the figure mode before you start keyframing. use track selection, body vertical to move up or down.

  • Figure mode may have been a problem in the future so good to know, but in this case I think it was that I needed to set a yellow colored keyframe for the Bip01, as I only had a red one.

  • I can't remember biped can have a yellow keyframe. Maybe you can send me your scene file:

    hammerbchen(at)gmail(dot)com

  • I solved the problem, I have yellow keyframes, when it wouldn't work I only had a red one.

  • 3ds max freeware ?

  • nope, cost you money, a lot of money. But it can make you money too.

  • "3ds max freeware ?"

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • you can buy some in china(town?) or ebay i think, pirated stuff.. youve got keygens, cracks, stuff like that to activate the product,.... but dont buy them it's illegal :)

  • Buy cracks?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • *hah

  • i have comming 2 dou somthing 2 my motion an i can gedt it bak 2 that 1 you have

  • Say again? I don't understand

  • I think he means: "I have comming to do something to my motion and I can get it back to that one you have." I dont know what that is though...

  • i cant get the biped

  • Start 3ds max, and go to system (right side panel), you will see the "biped" button

  • i figured it out

i have 3ds max 9 not 7 i had to just look around, but thanks for your help

  • If its 3dsmax 8 or 9 then,on the top menu click Create > Systems > Biped

  • thank you for your free lesson, ive learnt alot of useful tips from your video. Thank You

    Monster

  • I am glad you found them useful!. Vist my Blog (cg Taiwaner) for detail description of each video tutorials.

  • where do u get software

  • Ask your local Autodesk vender

  • i think your cog is a bit off balance.....

  • I think 3D max just takes too long to animate in, i think i stick to pivot :P
