@justanarchy THis song is meant to be really flat out screamed at the top of your lungs as loud and crunchy as you can play it. At least thats how I like it. Rock on Neil.
@justanarchy Haha, way to get technical ;P I still love Neil and anyone who loves his songs, ANY VERSION is a friend of mine. Keep on rockin' my friend.
Are you crazy?! That is the sound of God right there. And, it's not distortion at all. It's just the sound of his amp's tubes being overdriven. I have been searching for over 20 years to try to get any guitar/amp combination to sound half that good...
You can get pretty close with some fuzz pedals that are out there now. Neils using an octave pedal somewhere in his rig though and has done with this song for some time now, i can get fairly close with a big muff pi usa version and the whammy pedal octave setting.
@littlewingmel he is amaing but he isnt a god with the guitar cause he plays really basic notes but its how he plays them that makes him awesome"! and effective
@littlewingmel That would be a Gibson Les Paul. Pure made in the USA, rock n roll machine. Also played by SLASH, J. Page and R. Rhodes to name a few.
Do you have any other videos from this show????? I watched it live....it was the most powerful show I've ever seen by Neil! Specifically Mr. Soul and No Hidden Path!
I can't put into words how gratifying it is to see a man in his 60's playing music that used to terrify parents in their 40''s, and he's still doing it harder and better than most kids in their 20's. We used to think that aging rockers would be laughable, but Young makes aging cool.
@elrick80 If we can trust wikipedia, Young was 62 by then (64 right now). Not wanting to be unpleasant, but... NONE of us will get that far as vital, you are aware, I hope...
@MrsAnaLB Pero como puedes decir que prefieres la version de Oasis a la de Neil Young, por favor! Neil es dios comparado con el grupo de los Gallaghers.
@UpTheIrons911 The original arrangement is acoustic guitar. You are only 18 and weren't around for grunge days lol. Did you think Neil Young played the song like this in the '70's?
1979 (when Rust Never Sleeps/Live Rust was released) is in the 70s... I don't know anything about this DEVO jam session but if that is how the song was written it certainly happened in the 70s...
@bmedeiros678 He did play the song like this in the 70s... Rust Never Sleeps/Live Rust - have both an acoustic version and electric version which was very similar to the version played here (kindof like what he did with Rocking in the Free World on the Freedom album in the late 80s). Both songs earned Neil the title "Godfather of Grunge" although I wouldn't say he alone (or either song) was as instrumental to grunge music as people assume - Rock and Roll will never die!
@UpTheIrons911 this song is after grounge born!, even the part of ¨is better burn out than to fade away¨ is inspired in kurt kobain, neil young say that!
He's older, he's heavier, but the guy still rocks the dump, sounds as good as ever. Seen him 4 times, with and without CS&N, he always gives 110%, Neil is still and always will be " The Man".
Hey Food8 "FUCK THE COVERS!" I just typed in House of the Rising Sun and got Shitnead O'Connor singing it. OMG, what's the world coming to? I don't give a shyt about Devo's "Satisfaction" or anyone band's cover of a classic song. Sorry dude but I don't.
It was unfortunate the way Rock & Roll started to die pretty much straight after he wrote this song. I guess it didn't seem like it was going to die then. Or maybe he wrote it because he knew it was about to start fading, and just to let people know that it would never die completely.

First off, age has nothing to do with it. Anyone old enough to read or be read to could find out the origin of this song.
This song was first written with a jam session with the band DEVO. The acoustic version (my my, hey hey) came after, and neither were in the 70's.
