When I played X5 and got to this level, I sat there listening and thought, "...What? As far as I remember, nothing's happened to change the mood. The stage prior to this one had serious, slow music...and this is techno and fast. I mean, I like it, yeah, but...what?"

I suppose it's Capcom, though, and they do whatever the hell they want. One of the reasons love Capcom. :D

Not this particular stage. The stage you fight Sigma is not a remix of any stage. only the first two final stages are stage remakes. Shadow Devil's stage is Quickman, and Rangda Bangda's stage is X1's first sigma stage. once it gets the the 3rd one, (X/Zero) it stops and they get original.

I know this may be a bit fanboy-ish, but the solo starting at 1:00 up to 1:27-ish...to me, that one part of the song feels like a tribute to the entire Mega Man and Mega Man X series.

A few reasons; it sounds very similar to the intro of Mega Man 8. It gives you that final battle feeling that makes you take a deep breath especially this time around when you know that Wily is the main antagonist behind the scenes! Overall it just sounds like the styles of both series' music clash in a great way!
