He did check the chamber, but I'd be willing to bet that he had a full clip in and when he cocked it while holding it up it loaded one from the clip- I think this beucase as he was saying it was not loaded, he took it over showed it to one of the other adults and then went back to the class hit the action release wich closed the chamber of the gun and loaded it at the same time, then when putting it away he hit the trigger. But still, funny to watch
You never stop at checking the chamber. You also make sure there is no charged magazine in the pistol.
There had to be a charged mag inside as that's the only way a cartridge can be chambered when the slide stop is released, allowing the slide to return to full battery (another no-no as the action should've been kept open for the gun's presentation).
As for why he pulled the trigger, he might have tried to "decock" it.
Glocks have no external decockers so when the striker is primed, the only way to decock it is to pull the trigger. This may explain, but it doesn't excuse.
Agent Lee Paige (that's the guy's name) allowed lapses in his handling of the pistol, resulting in a negligent discharge.
His mistake is a reminder and lesson for every gun owner: never disregard basic gun safety doctrines at any time as all it takes is just one lapse.

I am from Canada and a pistol shooting enthusiast. This would never have happened if he PROVED the gun safe. AND after doing that STILL treated it as if it were loaded! brian1890 is absoluely correct! YOU are the #1 safety device when it comes to gun safety. ALWAYS check the chamber even if your 200% sure the gun isn't loaded! And NEVER put your finger on the trigger until your ready to destroy something! Also,(Johnnyezzell) I've never seen a safety demonstration where an accident was staged. That would be stupid. A blank cartridge can cause a terrible injury if it went off at the wrong time. I doubt he lost his job over that.Accidents can and will happen!

He did check the chamber, but I'd be willing to bet that he had a full clip in and when he cocked it while holding it up it loaded one from the clip- I think this beucase as he was saying it was not loaded, he took it over showed it to one of the other adults and then went back to the class hit the action release wich closed the chamber of the gun and loaded it at the same time, then when putting it away he hit the trigger. But still, funny to watch

You never stop at checking the chamber. You also make sure there is no charged magazine in the pistol.
There had to be a charged mag inside as that's the only way a cartridge can be chambered when the slide stop is released, allowing the slide to return to full battery (another no-no as the action should've been kept open for the gun's presentation).

As for why he pulled the trigger, he might have tried to "decock" it.
Glocks have no external decockers so when the striker is primed, the only way to decock it is to pull the trigger. This may explain, but it doesn't excuse.
Agent Lee Paige (that's the guy's name) allowed lapses in his handling of the pistol, resulting in a negligent discharge.
His mistake is a reminder and lesson for every gun owner: never disregard basic gun safety doctrines at any time as all it takes is just one lapse.
