This band is one of the unsung wonders of the Folk rock world. I saw them for the first time at Shrewsbury in August 2011 and they did not fail to live up to all these posted videos. Three Cheers for the Oysterband!
I am absolutely crazy about these guys and have been for years. Their stuff is hard to find, but when I come across anything I can get my hands on...I am ruthless! :)
Just saw them tonight in Alberta! They put on a hell of a show! These guys are great performers and talented musicians; anyone is lucky to see them play live!!!
@CaptainMadJackFlint Absolutely. We saw them a couple of nights before you did, in Winnipeg, as they moved west. Our third time seeing them, and I will go back again! Our daughter who has toured with them as a roadie, I guess, she sold mech at their shows in England, got us on to them.
@CaptainMadJackFlint And, the first time we saw them was at the Winnipeg Folk Festival about 10 years ago. The WFF is in a provincial park about 20 miles outside the city. No city around, no ambient lights, just the sky and the trees. They were the last act of the night, about 11:00 or so. It was dark with no moon, but the stars sparkled. The group came out and the first song they did - the first one we had ever heard live was "Bells of Rhymney". It was absolutely awesome in the darkness!!
@obamamaniac42 Who knows? I tried telling potential mates on dating sites that oysterband was my fav and they would come back with, "Don't you mean Blue Oyster Cult?" I then put them on ignore.
@DadofVBG Their last American tour was in 1994. I saw them at The Middle East in Cambridge, MA. They played in the basement. Everyone was dancing along with them. Chopper looked like he had just jumped off a Harley. It's been hard for groups to tour here since 9/11 and, of course, the cost is high. An option for Americans is to see them in Canada.
that brings back memories i can remember this being the last song on the last night at stainsby folk festaval i was about 13-14 the whole crowd still singing at about 3am after u lot had probly packed up and gone home lol and the next morning there was a drunk guy lieing half on the little outside wooden stage still singing...truly beautifull
They're British, not Irish. They're from Canterbury, doesn't get much more English than that. Please, please, please, don't mistake England for Ireland again.
Finally got the 25 anniversary concert vid from runningman. Concert of a lifetime! Hope the band sees fit, at some point, to post The Bishop of Chester on youtube. One of 18 songs perfect songs in the show, this cooks like nothing I've ever heard in jig/reel music. James O'Grady on pipes adds a fine touch. Breathtaking!
And tomorrow again LIVE

Please, folks, letßs settle for "celtic" which is the common origin, at least für Scotsman Ian Telfer and Welsh-stock John Jones. Have a beer...
