MMA showed me that every body type has its advantages and disadvantages.I am a big solid dude, but routinely get my ass kicked in sparring and rolling. To answer your question,defending oneself is raised 500% by taking MMA.The key is not having that elevated emotional level if and when a potential situation arises.Your calm mind will defend you.Judo, JuiJitsu, Boxing and Wrestling are all key.
