I cringe every time I see that part. There is absolutely nothing to protect her face. Both hands are held away. She hits so hard, her feet follow through. There is no doubt, if she didn't get some measure of injury, it no less than hurt like the dickens. She's a sport though, and must love humor, and is willing to pay a price for it, because she's laughing away later.

This is the last full feature Curly ever appeared in. He suffered a stroke while on the set filming this picture (he was a very heavy drinker, smoker, and womanizer). Curly died in 1952. They brought Shemp back until his death in 1956, after which Joe Besser became "Curly Joe".

Its practically the same story so its understandable why Moe would make the mistake. In "Half Wit Holiday" Curly showed very little physical comedy. He was nowhere near as demonstrative and energetic as he was is in this episode.

@Rick02809 @69789Darius Hoi Polloi was the 10th film by the stooges filmed in 1935 so it couldn't have been the last Curly episode. Half-Wits Holiday (97th episode filmed in 1947) was based off of the same concept so I can understand how Moe may have said Hoi Polloi on the Mike Douglas Show but he meant Half-Wits Holiday. If you watch Half-Wits, you'll notice that Curly doesn't appear in remaining last 3 minutes for the pie fight.
