it goes down to 84. After the procedure today, she has had trouble breathing so they had to increase her oxygen level from 3 to 5. I'm sure she is also anxious, so they are going to give her some anxiety pills to calm her down.
my mom had it done this morning. She has lung cancer and has had trouble breathing for a couple days. Oncologist doesn't know why. It's not the chemo, even though that could be a part of it. She went to the ER two days ago and is under a pulmonologist. Her oxygen saturation is low when she walks. She gets very fatigued and can barely walk 10 steps without breathing hard. and thats with the oxygen on her. Her saturation when sitting down/laying down is around 95, but when she starts to walk.
I had a bronchoscopy about a year ago. It wasn't too bad. Not my idea of an entertaining time, but it was survivable. I was awake thru the whole thing and had a quick and easy recovery time. If I have to have another I know it's not too bad. The worst part for me was the prep. They numbed my throat which is a very weird feeling. :)
@radioqueen46 if you don't mind me asking, why did you get the procedure done? I was looking into this procedure to see if there wasn't anyway that they might be able to identify the source of my asthma... do you know if this procedure is useful for that?
@MisterAaronRodriguez I have pulmonary fibrosis and was hospitalized for low oxygen saturation and trouble breathing. They did the bronchoscopy to find out what type of pneumonia I had, and also to confirm whether or not I had pulmonary fibrosis. The procedure might be helpful in your case. I'm not really sure. Have you discussed this with your doctor? Wish I could be of more help.
Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, and safe, or point pistols. You'll hear the words, Loughner, offin' her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some say they hear, do it.
I was awake. It wasnt painful, but i kept choking & gasping for air. You really cant breathe well with that thing inside you. Plus they keep flushing the lung passageways with saline water. It was kinda drowning effect. I thought I would die! The doc kept saying keep swallowing, so i dont choke, but the problem was that they numb the mouth and throat areas before putting that pipe in you. So i couldnt swallow much, the area was numb and out of my control. That did lead to choking. Bad experience.
@akuma4u they get anxiolytics before the procedure, they also get anterograde amnesics to forget everything they passed through...
using general anesthesia (making them asleep) will require endotracheal intubation, which renders bronchoscopy much harder, and GA itself has some risks on the patient, especially those with a compromised respiratory system.
No duele mucho, pero es agobiante. Incluso es necesario dormir al paciente. Las burbujas se deben creo al suero salino en contacto con el surfactante.

I had one recently . Through the procedure I was asleep and whilst in recovery had no feelings of anaesthesia in my throat or further down.
