a few weeks ago i heard from Paul Mccartney about the same idea, The Beatles getting back together and he said that there were not enought pasion through the idea and it would ruin The Beatles idea so i think they made the right thing not getting back together so they still are the greatest band of all time because of their legacy and history
@Thomasino66 Lennon opposed hate, unless it was about Paul's music, Dylan, Jagger, rock stars who didn't retire, or people who thought Yoko was a talentless social climber. He hated all that plenty.
wow he was really going bald...i would not want to see a bald beatles reunion...this is like 1973...paul and george still have full heads of hair....but johns was super receding as was ringo's....very uncool...happy the beatles broke up before they lost their hair
@ChiroQuacker Yes, because we all know that if the Beatles were bald, their music would have sucked. These guys weren't Samson, who got his strength from his hair. Good Lord! BTW, John was not going bald, he just happened to be in one of his short hair phases. Neither is Ringo, he just crops it close.
I think around the 70's the only person who would rather not have a Beatles reunion is George. In all honesty he and Paul recording together in the 70's era seems more unlikely than flying pigs. Though a true Beatles reunion would have been amazing, I think John, George, and Ringo recorded a track on on of the other's solo albums though( it's pretty close). Also "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love"
I honestly believe Yoko had something to do with it, cause John was planning on divorcing her, cause he already had another girlfriend. I think she got away with it, cause John was a thorn in the government's side.
During the 70s I think all of the Beatles expressed regret at one time or another that the band had split. The problem was they could never get together on it at the same time. I think it's probable that some type of reunion would have occurred in the mid to late 80s if Chapman hadn't killed John. But maybe it's better that The Beatles remain in that 60s capsule. Being a generational icon is one thing, being a sell out is another.
(Heavy sigh.....) If only, if only.......I wonder if this is when he was with May Pang, because it was during his time with her when he considered getting back with Paul, and when he got back with Yoko, that was the end of that (I'm quoting May Pang's words.) .......Another heavy sigh.....
If I was in a band with my best mates and all of a sudden this hanger-on woman shows up (Groupie) and suddenly she is everywhere with us, on tour worldwide, in the hotel at breakfast, in the studio and even during private recording sessions...
The fact that he would answer such a redundant question shows strength of character. You know how many times people have tried to stereotype these guys into some made up self generated illusion. I wish I had a dollar for every one of them. It is remarkable that John was well grounded and walked past the fog of commercial value for the sake of artistic freedom. I believe this is the reason his songs radiate love and a sort of energy that keeps on inspiring us.
thank you so much for downloading this clip.its real proof that all four of them were still close and friends.i could see them doing a charity ect.we all have seen paul performing beatle songs live and especially with his latest band he is absolutely brilliant. just imagine all for of them coming together in the 80s or 90s to perform.the murder of john took that away from us.still we can still imagine, but even that cant get any close to what it would have been like.RIP john and george.thank you
I wish John Paul George and Ringo had met up sooner and decided to make another song together, but now it's too late.....at least John and George are making songs together up in heaven ): I love you and miss you John and George. never forget that nobody has.
@Thunderbolt505T The reason they broke up is a little known story and the true story. It started with John ordering a whole pizza. He was hungry and had it delivered to the studio after recording "Five Hours of Silence"while making sure no one made sounds. They all ate slices but there was one slice left and Paul wanted it. Since John paid for it he felt he should eat it. So they all disagreed on this. Paul stormed out and George tried to get the last slice and he got angry and left.
Paul was recording Venus and Mars around this time and called John who had recently separated from Yoko. THey talked about meeting up and talking about things. Then Mai Pang, John's assistant and a woman who he had been having an affair with before when he was with yoko, called Yoko up and told her that Paul and John were going to meet. Yoko called John and said that she wanted to talk about getting back together. The meeting never happened.
Keeping in mind that this was taken in 1973, chances are John was at the time drifting away from Yoko, and soon was living in the same house as Ringo in Los Angeles, if not already. Hence the thought of getting back together wasn't too far out. And by then he had probably reconciled with Paul over the Beatles mess.
Way before Lennon was killed. Paul and he had a long phonecall and talked together as best friends rather than bandmates... they had in mind a Beatles Reunion

Live Aid 1985!!!!!! Although McCartney's performance sucked (I'm a McCartney fan that's just the fact of the matter), if it had been all 4 of them it would have been fucking awesome!!!!!

@scalawagify I don't know why we're keeping Chapman alive. Why didn't he get the death penalty? Chapman should have been dead by 1982 at the very latest.
In 1979, the Beatles almost got together for a benefit concert for the Cambodian "boat people" at the behest of the U.N. Paul got George and John to reluctantly agree, but both later had changes of heart, Paul went ahead with the project and instead held a series of concerts in London with Wings, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Pretenders and other groups which became the "Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea".
@scalawagify He had no intention of reforming. Paul would have refused anyway.
In the 1980's The Beatles were considered a laughable band from the 60's despite their record sales. They didn't regain popularity until the 1990s when Oasis and various other bands brought their musical style back from the dead.
And even then, they were too old to reclaim former glories;
They would sell out concerts now, in 2011 - but they would have flopped massively in the 80s and even the 90s.
@scalawagify Chapman will always be a scumbag. But there should never be a Beatles reunion even if they were all still alive. They gave more than enough to last us all 10 lifetimes. Same goes for any legendary rock band . I wouldn't want to see a 70 year old Beatles rocking out for corporate America. Would you? It would cost a 2nd mortgage to get nosebleed seats if that happened. Let it Be indeed.
Such a pity it never happened... such a pity... The Beatles could make magic together and the two superbly re-worked Lennon songs of the 1994 ''reunion'' show what it might have been like...
It's a1973 interview and John was seperated from Yoko at this time, he was probably looking for something to do?I have no doubt John and Paul would've done an album together at some point in the 80's had he lived and been able to travel freely, a return to live performance would have rekindled his enthusiasm just play rock n roll again. Sadly most 1980 interviews still see Lennon's cynicism towards all things Beatles, it is hard to know why when he had not seen either Paul or George for 2 yrs!
@paskek26 Free as a bird and Real love just show what the Beatles would sound like 25 years later. Wonderful songs ! I wish they had recorded more of the kind even with John ''in absentia''...
The Beatles probably would of got back together in some way or another. In 1980 a few months before John died he and Paul did meet up and there is a home video of John talking about how he enjoyed spending time with Paul and saying Paul will always be his brother. Its interesting to take a moment and try place The Beatles in say 1985 with all that terrible adult contemporary music of the time
@SamKhan95 paul georg and ringo were up for it but john was off with ono and didnt want that any more, john was sick of being a beatle and decided to try and change the world
@MrQueenfan4ever No blame both Yoko Ono and David Chapman. In 1970 John Lennon said, "it seemed that I had to be married to them or Yoko, and I chose Yoko, and I was right." Ono wanted to share the limelight with Lennon in any Beatle reformation and of course the other Beatles would never abide it. It's no accident Lennon was most positive about a Beatles reunion when her influence was at it's weakest. Both Ono and Chapman helped kill the Beatles forever albeit in different ways.
@MrQueenfan4ever Sad but true.Chapman pulled the trigger! Somewhere I saw a Lennon doc in which Yoko's PA May Pang?Ping? was with John during his time away from Yoko, tells how John wanted to know if it was right to get together with the other three. She said that it would be great but Yoko wouldn't nurture John's thoughts/feelings about a re-union. Sad when egos get in the way of something beautiful.
That's not '73. There's no way Lennon would've agreed to the possibility of Beatles reunion before '74, after his "lost weekend", and after relations with McCartney started to heal. Plus his hairstyle is late 70s... this is closer to '75 or after.
In an alternate universe, Brian Epstein never died, and the Beatles are still together making music, and each one releasing a solo album as well. John never got together with Yoko (brain made sure of that), and, sadly(?), Sean never existed.
@rossdarragh Chill the fuck out dude, I'm not saying I'll be the one to kill Chapman, on the contrary, I'll be the one to get as far as I can from him. You cannot deny though, that if this guy is ever released from jail, there will like half world to kill him, you know that, just don't want to admit it, your hipocrisy is the one thing Lennon would be disgusted about. LOL, just kinding. Sorry about bad english. and your thoughts are very important, spread the love my friend.
@educassiano Why are you so aggressive towards me? Yes there are people who will want to hurt him, and I can understand their pain. But their pain can be no greater than his families pain, I doubt if they would hope for him to be murdered. those who wish him harm are as bad as he is. Your English is not so bad but the use of the word hipocrisy is out of context. and Spelled wrong, but then again i couldn't spell it either.
this was in 1973, he still doesn't get killed for another 7yrs almost 8. they never could have gotten along, and frankly im glad they didn't because i wouldnt want to hear a beatle album from the 70's.
even though they never got back together.... every time i watch this i get excited. it almost feels like when you're watching a movie over and over again and you feel this time* around it'll be different. it's intense.
and that they have a great legacy for many to listen to for years to come. it was a moment in time, and all of them have made wonderful music on there own and we might not have had that sort of creativity from all of them had they been collaborating.
P.S. i second that ShotGunAnd.... FUCK CHAPMAN, i say let the bastard out
personally, no matter how blasphemous this may seem, as i am a fan like everyone, but personally i feel the beatles would have become dilluted down. it is rare for bands to keep going for 30+ years, and even more rare is they can still make great music together... the stones, ac/dc are prime examples, but i think that the beatles quit while they were ahead, and although with the passing of john and george that day will never come, i feel that they left behind great music together and apart...
The great stuff they did as solo artist, just imagine what wouldve happened had they stayed together!! We think the Beatles are great anyway? Just think how great the music wouldve continued to be!!
The reason average people seem to think John hates the beatles probably has something to do with yoko rewriting history to make the 1970 rolling stone interview the absolute truth.
God, why oh why didn't it happen? I never knew John felt like that. I always thought he hated the idea of reuniting. What a joy that would have been, though.
did he ever say that he had been unhappy with the beatles? no. of course we shouldn't hate yoko, at least for him. 'cause i think he really loved her...
Sorry but that story is true, about Paul sleeping with Yoko. Look it up on google and you will see that, this story came out in the daily mail newspaper. About 3 years ago, she met Paul first before John did.
I sure as hell can be a fan of John Lennon and wish yoko should have died instead of him. What crappy logic is that. I hate her and I loved John simple.
I still say that had John lived they would have reunited at Live-Aid or something like that. However, I don't think that they ever would have reformed on a permanent basis. maybe they would have done what Genesis did or what neil young does w/ CSNY which get together when they feel like it. However, I still think that George would have been the most difficult to persuade.
@stevedrums I agree with you said here. You might have seen what CSNY do. Different formations with in the 4. But i also agree the hardest one would have been George. George was so private and i think untill the day John died they still had issues. John had made peace with Paul by then . There was just some issues with George. And i think if John had lived they would have resolved those problems.
@Floridaboy7777 George didn't die of cancer, he in matter of fact survived (trust me im not sure, i read this up somewhere) it. I heard the doctors found a tumor in his brain or something? (That's cancer isn't it? Idk.) But, I don't think he died because of ciggs. I relly dont know.
I think if you check out one of the biographies written by one of the Beatles hangers-on from that time (forget which one) you will read that Paul McCartney bedded Yoko before she hooked up with John........................ hence the animosity between the three of em.
@reddishtyke Oh christ, may a recommend you to stay the hell away from Beatles biographies that purport this kind of silly nonsense. Biographies rarely tell you the real story behind the band, seriously. Paul bedding Yoko is so untrue it's not even funny... The animosity over Yoko had its core in the very complex and intense relationship between John and Paul.
a few weeks ago i heard from Paul Mccartney about the same idea, The Beatles getting back together and he said that there were not enought pasion through the idea and it would ruin The Beatles idea so i think they made the right thing not getting back together so they still are the greatest band of all time because of their legacy and history

And even then, they were too old to reclaim former glories;

The Beatles could make magic together and the two superbly re-worked Lennon songs of the 1994 ''reunion'' show what it might have been like...
theo9952 10 months ago
It's a1973 interview and John was seperated from Yoko at this time, he was probably looking for something to do?I have no doubt John and Paul would've done an album together at some point in the 80's had he lived and been able to travel freely, a return to live performance would have rekindled his enthusiasm just play rock n roll again. Sadly most 1980 interviews still see Lennon's cynicism towards all things Beatles, it is hard to know why when he had not seen either Paul or George for 2 yrs!

I think there would have been a reunion without Chapman, whether or not it would have led to them getting fully back together, who knows.

Don't blame Yoko blame MARK DAVID CHAPMAN
MrQueenfan4ever 1 year ago 16

Dempsmeister 1 year ago
@Dempsmeister I may be wrong, but didn't the Lost Weekend start pretty much immediately after the release of Mind Games, which was in '73?

In an alternate universe, Brian Epstein never died, and the Beatles are still together making music, and each one releasing a solo album as well. John never got together with Yoko (brain made sure of that), and, sadly(?), Sean never existed.

Just like May Pang said. He and Paul talked about it, May encouraged it. Then Yoko caught wind and crushed it completely.

@educassiano John Lennon spoke abut love and peace, and you defile his memory
with this type of hatred. Its this type of unbalanced thinking that got him killed in the first place.
rossdarragh 1 year ago
@rossdarragh Chill the fuck out dude, I'm not saying I'll be the one to kill Chapman, on the contrary, I'll be the one to get as far as I can from him. You cannot deny though, that if this guy is ever released from jail, there will like half world to kill him, you know that, just don't want to admit it, your hipocrisy is the one thing Lennon would be disgusted about. LOL, just kinding. Sorry about bad english. and your thoughts are very important, spread the love my friend.
educassiano 1 year ago
@educassiano Why are you so aggressive towards me? Yes there are people who will want to hurt him, and I can understand their pain. But their pain can be no greater than his families pain, I doubt if they would hope for him to be murdered. those who wish him harm are as bad as he is. Your English is not so bad but the use of the word hipocrisy is out of context. and Spelled wrong, but then again i couldn't spell it either.

it never would have happened.
this was in 1973, he still doesn't get killed for another 7yrs almost 8. they never could have gotten along, and frankly im glad they didn't because i wouldnt want to hear a beatle album from the 70's.

incmob 1 year ago
personally, no matter how blasphemous this may seem, as i am a fan like everyone, but personally i feel the beatles would have become dilluted down. it is rare for bands to keep going for 30+ years, and even more rare is they can still make great music together... the stones, ac/dc are prime examples, but i think that the beatles quit while they were ahead, and although with the passing of john and george that day will never come, i feel that they left behind great music together and apart...
incmob 1 year ago
@incmob I share the same concern. But its a What If? No shame in that. Just a thought.

The reason average people seem to think John hates the beatles probably has something to do with yoko rewriting history to make the 1970 rolling stone interview the absolute truth.

I still say that had John lived they would have reunited at Live-Aid or something like that. However, I don't think that they ever would have reformed on a permanent basis. maybe they would have done what Genesis did or what neil young does w/ CSNY which get together when they feel like it. However, I still think that George would have been the most difficult to persuade.
stevedrums 1 year ago
@stevedrums I agree with you said here. You might have seen what CSNY do. Different formations with in the 4. But i also agree the hardest one would have been George. George was so private and i think untill the day John died they still had issues. John had made peace with Paul by then . There was just some issues with George. And i think if John had lived they would have resolved those problems.

I think if you check out one of the biographies written by one of the Beatles hangers-on from that time (forget which one) you will read that Paul McCartney bedded Yoko before she hooked up with John........................ hence the animosity between the three of em.
reddishtyke 1 year ago
@reddishtyke Oh christ, may a recommend you to stay the hell away from Beatles biographies that purport this kind of silly nonsense. Biographies rarely tell you the real story behind the band, seriously. Paul bedding Yoko is so untrue it's not even funny... The animosity over Yoko had its core in the very complex and intense relationship between John and Paul.
