  • NOO THATS WRONG PR DID NOT JUST RIP OFF VOLTRON

    It also ripped off SENTAI

  • Voltron was cool. Power Rangers was stupid. Most kids who grew up in the mid 90's knew little or nothing of Voltron. It was much better than the shitty horrible acting that the Power Rangers gave us..

  • i hate power rangers cause they basicly copied off of voltron

  • I think voltron riped off sentai it has been in chin for more then 20 yeas

  • Same source for both cartoons, I like Voltron more though even though I was born in 1984 and grew up on Power rangers.

  • Cant tell if blind or really stupid....

  • Let me tell you something. before power rangers... since it came from japan.... or voltron came from japan as well. These two were not the original robots to combine to make a powerful robot. there have been numerous animes that have involve robots to combo. so yoou can't say that it ripped of each other. if i remember it right the combination robot thing started around the 70's. with anime's like Combattler V or Voltes-V

  • I got this same BS from my friend. I don't think that they ripped off Voltron. I mean, think about it! When was the last time you saw the "pilots" of each lion fight the enemy hand-to hand before calling for Voltron? Also, when was the lat time you saw Voltron in tank mode?

  • Actually, Power Rangers "rips off" Sentai Shows.

  • GoLion is basically and anime version of Super Sentai but I don't think the kids really care.

  • sentai was not thought until late 1980's. If it was made before Voltron there would be Power Rangers(sentai) before Voltron. However there was no such show named senatai until late 1980's/early 1990's. So if Sentai started early how come no has never heard of it(even Japanese people never heard of it until late 80's!

  • actually Super Sentai has been around since 1975

  • Okay, so maybe the Megazord's head is a ripoff of Zolton's head. So what?

  • It's good to hear debatable jargon, especialy about my favorite cartoon growing up" Voltron" however I must say that the real issue is not between beast Go Lion(Voltron) and Power Rangers, but instead G-Force aka Gatchaman, whis was the real inspiration behind Voltron.Had it not been for it's success in Japan, the American distributors World Events, would had never picked it up.Voltron came to the U.S. in 84,but was made in 81'

.later the G-Force which aired in 1986,was actually from the 70's...

  • the megazord can kick voltron's ass any time any place...

  • @zaidogold123 how would they battle? lord zedd destroyed the dinozords. lol. no megazord to battle with.

  • Powr Rangers started in 1990's not in 1970's or 1980's. Nor was there a comic book of it until the show started. yeah Power Ranger exist in 1980's or 1970s. If it sta=rted than how come nobody heard of it's existence. Oh that's right it wasn't made yet.

  • Correction mr drago013, Power Rangers was not thought of until 1990's was not thought nor was it a comic. Golion(Voltron)was a comic book in mid or late 1970's

and started in a cartoon in 1984 up until 1989 when it became old and went off the air. do your research first before making false comments.

  • drago013 Correction, Power Rangers were not thought of until the early 1990's nor was it even a comic book. GoLion(Voltron) started as a comic book in the 1970's in Japan. Voltron cartoons started in 1983 or 1984 lasted until 1989. Do your research first before making comments. Voltron was here first. Not the rip off Power Rangers. It wasn't thought of yet!

  • hm...how can it be a rip-off if it's better?

  • Hey lex1tag, I get it...I just don't think other people got the point of this video. This video IS kind of funny...i.e. "Hmmm...This looks familiar..." lol

  • I always thought power rangers was a blatan rip off of voltron, but know better now after reading comments. thanks for the info!

  • Can't we all just agree that giant robots made up of other giant robots or vehicles is just plain COOL!!! Must we say one combiner team is better than another?

On a somewhat related topic, I will say that the Voltron music is more nostalgic than Power Rangers to me only because I was 7 when Voltron came out.

That being said, who as a kid (or adult today), when by themselves, doesn't chime with an enthusiastic "And I'll form the head!" when they watch Voltron. I know I do.

  • You know, I've always wondered how Kimberly is always in the bridge with the other Rangers before her zord joins in the fun.....in fact, what her zord do while they still in tank mode?

    *shrugs*

  • The Power Rangers did not only rip off Voltron, but also Ultra man, look at the Power Rangers moves and costumes, pathetic, never did like them.

  • @RJW27 moron! power rangers is a remake of a japanese tv show that was made by the same people who made voltron!

  • at first, i thought power rangers ripped off transformers

  • you idiot...the transformation does not match Voltron's transformation...

  • Let's remember one thing. Voltron was all cats whereas Power Rangers used different dinosaurs/animals/whatever as the seasons progressed.

I am an 80s kid and Voltron was the thing and my favorite cartoon of all time, though there are few very close or tied as well.

However, Power Rangers not necessarily original, brought back the concept for a newer generation and that's why it's been around for 17 years. Voltron for us 80s folks...Power Rangers 90s generation.

  • Not only that, but the show Voltron was adapted from "GoLion" wasn't poppular in Japan. In fact the show was almost lost in a sea of similar shows. Voltron may have been the first combining mecha to hit the US, where it seemed original because no one had ever seen anything like it. But it was just a run-of-them-mill anime in Japan and far from the first show to use the gimick.

  • 1: Golion (1981), the original version of Lion Voltron (1984) was a typical robot anime. there were tons of this kind of robot anime in the 1970s. Combattler V (1976), Voltes V (1977), etc. in case you don't know Golion, search "golion promo 2008" or "uncensored voltron".

2: Super Sentai series, the original version of Power Rangers series came out in 1975. every PR is a remake of SS. the 1st PR (1993) was a remake of the 16th SS (1992). in case you don't know SS, look at my favorites (SUNAO)

  • @RX78 So true. Super Sentai was around long before Voltron. Either way, as great as most of the PR series are, it's still a ripoff from SS.

  • you are a geek

  • people need to read and learn the history of both sides.. clearly sentai was around first.. and it is a genre in japan anyways

  • new camera angles of zords...cool

  • Asians have their over used formula of the same giant robots or samari. Thats all they do.

In america its superheroes or nuts with guns

  • your pastor did this? what church is this? i wanna check it out!

  • actually Dynaman (the 7th Super Sentai in 1983) was aired before Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (the 1st Power Rangers in 1993) in US.

if you have an interest in it, search " dynaman usa "

  • voltron was just ink and paper and it's still a billion times better than the power rangers could ever be .....even in their wettest dreams!!!!

  • Man, that's like saying when Pixar made Monsters Inc. they made Mike a rip-off of Roger from Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

  • theyre both good

  • Voltron's energy sword would ANNIHILATE anything the power rangers could make. I hated how much of a rip PR was that I never watched it, ever.

  • I try to tell to tell everyone the same thing but they wont listen

  • power rangers will always be better then voltron. thats a fact.

  • this is where power ranger makers got there idea from

  • Comment removed

  • actually sentai bean out longer and voltron aka beast king go lion was part of super sentai look it up on wikki and on other sites they voltron is part of sentai

  • Wrong. Voltron ripped off PR. (well sort of)

PR came out in Japan in 1975 as Super Senti and in 78 (I think) they introduced the concept of multiple mecha combining into a humanoid robot.

Voltron came out in the 80's.

Basically, Megazords are the original, and anything else to use a mecha similar is ripping them off.

  • actually giant robot anime came first before supersentai.

Gorangers and Jakq didn't use giant robot

the toei verison of spiderman in 1978 use the mention of using a giant robo to to defeat a monster when they become giant.

Battle Fever J in 1979 is the first show a giant robot

Super Sentai didn't use a five piece robot until 1988 when Maskman aired.

  • Yeah I know, I was just saying that Voltron came after Sentai so in a sense Voltron was the one to rip it off. Voltron was late 88, early 89 if I remember correctly, which I doubt I do.

  • Megazord would cut up all of Voltrons Lion heads.

    POWER RANGERS FOREVER FUCKERS

  • 0:42 - polly want a megazord?

  • Well, there's one BIG difference; Voltron is cool, the Power Rangers suck!

  • the power rangers were stereotypical/racist too! the red ranger was a red neck, pink, the pretty girl, black ranger was black, yellow ranger was asian, the blue ranger was, well, a guy, and the green and white ranger were the best, and they were played by a white guy? wtf??? haha jus thought of it now as i look back.

  • @areyou4cereal moron! power rangers is a remake of a japanese tv show that was made by the same people who made voltron!

  • those megazords were too darn cool!!!!!!

  • even though i liked PR when it 1st came out i always thought "man voltron would kick his ass!!!" ohh the memories.

  • You'd have to take into account when they came out IN JAPAN. The power rangers theme has been around a long time. The japanese version of OUR rangers is like their 8th version. So when did the Japanese version of our show (of even the first of their versions) come out? Then see which came first.

  • Totally agree. the ignorance of some of these people annoy me to hell sometimes. All that good television you remember from the 80s and 90s? most of it was anime.

  • You should have added the clip of Vehicle Voltron where the Fighter Plane lands on the chest to complete the transformation, looks like the Rangers was influenced by that as well.

  • Power Rangers, Voltron, and other Japanese originated ( by the way, Power Rangers Were GoRangers and Super Sentai in Japan) Are all based on A Japanese fascination with Giant Robots, or Mecha, as it were. Your pastor should be made aware of the fact these are based on, or are, Japanese animation, or Anime, and are not bound by the "American standard" of rip-offs. Long Live Anime!!

  • Nice comparison.

  • Yeah and Gatchaman came before anybody

  • man you cant even compare the two, that pice of shit show is so horrible its so badly written and dumb. there is no doubt in my mind that Power Rangers is the Greatest Show i have ever seen!

  • man your on drugs :), Power Ranger is bullshit compared to Voltron or other shows of the kind. You talk about bad written and dumb, BREAK NEWS FOR YOU PAL, at least in the anime there was contact between foes in POWER RANGERS LOLZ let's remember how THE BIG RED RANGER WOULD GET TOUCH BY a plastic THING (cuz we cant' call it metal) and he would his chest would exlode YET HE WOULD BE UNHARMED XD

POWER RANGERS = WORST SHOW EVER CREATED

  • Thanks for adding Strong Bad's voice at the end

  • los power ranger son mas viejos....verga blanda

  • Problems with that idea:

*The ENTIRE POWER RANGERS FRANCHISE is edited Japanese footage

*Sentai ("Power Rangers") started before GoLion ("Voltron") in Japan

*Sentai introduced their giant robots in 1979, and transforming giant robots in 1980. GoLion aired in 1981.

*Super Robot anime started long before GoLion, and continues to the present day

*Japan has a long history of giant monsters, Godzilla was not the first.

*Sentai and GoLion were both produced by Toei.

*There are no original ideas left.

  • dude who cares, everyone copies off someone else, theres always a rip off happening somewhere, so why make a big deal out of it?

  • well to be fair there's about 24358341254582342 japanese shows and movies that have giant robots fighting so....

  • Voltron was not very original, it was an actual ripoff of Voltes V (late 70's?).

  • Well, I wouldn't call it a rip-off but yes Voltes V did come out first. Voltes V started airing in '77 while GoLion started airing in '84.

  • Almost everything from the villains to main protagonists (one fat guy, one female, one boy and a dark-haired leader) to the very idea of multiple robots forming one large one was copied. But in all fairness, both Voltron and Voltes along with its precursor Combattler V were created by some of the same people.

  • this makes me want to eat cheese

  • no wonder kids in japan get zizurz

  • Rip off of Ultraman, Godzilla movies, and voltron

  • you noob

  • Thanks for all the info people. I actually did not realize a lot of what you are telling me. But really this video was just a joke. I just made it for all of us who actually remember the 80's. But hey thanks for the comments and all the cool facts.

  • @lex1tag Well it's not funny. It's just plain wrong.

  • @lex1tag lol they juss wanted to argue everybody wants to be right they're lames

  • you do realize that Power Rangers is edited from Super Sentai, made by Toei. And Voltron is edited from Beast Force GoLion, which is also made by Toei.

THE JAPANESE VERSION IS BY THE SAME COMPANY.

  • Your pastor should've probably done his homework before he made this video, but I have to applaud him for being a Voltron fan!

  • Hah, I remember this argument when the show came out back in the day. T'was stupid then, it's stupid now :P

  • Sentai was first conceived by Toei in 1975 as go ranger. Toei colaborated with Sunrise in 1979 to produce Daltanios which like the first 15 seasons of sentai were not syndicated. Toei produced Go lion in 1981, Dairugger in 1982, Abeagas in 1983, and the first 3 episodes of the Transformers in 1984. Go lion and Dairugger were syndicated by World events. The 16th season of sentai Zyuranger produced by Toei in 1991 was the first sentai syndicated by Saban. Toei can't rip off it's own idea.

  • voltron would so kick the megazord's ass. once he forms the blazing sword its all over...

  • I hear that, you don't fuck with Voltron!

  • however the zords or rather sentai super robotss did not come till the 80's

  • the red ranger crytal twist looks so sick

  • they dont make power ranger like they used to sigh*crawls into corner*

  • I agree, the original Power Rangers Series was good(Not as good as Volrton though) Power Rangers was badass. Zeo was OK. Turbo sucked. Power Rangers in Space was bad(and not in a good way). Lost Galaxy was gay. Lightspeed Rescue was stupid. Time Force sucked ass. Wild Force was ok. Ninja Storm was strange. Dino Thunder was good because Jason David Frank(Who played as Tommy in MMPR, Zeo & Turbo) was in it. SPD was just plain fucked. I lost track after that, but the-
  • Power Rangers that were made after Wild Force was made by Disney because Saban sold their rights to the Power Rangers Franchise to Disney.

Meaning that Power Rangers Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, etc now belong to Disney and they practically destroyed the Power Rangers Series so much that not even the Dragonballs(from DB/Z/GT) could bring it back to life

  • Back on subject: Power Rangers compared to Voltron

Voltron was a kick ass Anime back then and it still a kick ass Anime now

  • hey! i am glad he posted this! I have always felt like Power rangers was a rip off of Voltron.

  • Dont like it dave.
