  • god they dont send your the pretty box in the store always.

  • Both great coolers, but both colors are fucking ugly

  • But does it blend?

  • so this doesnt fit 1155?

  • Them CPU Cooler's aren't kidding around!

  • Thats one big mother fucker

  • Hey lazy, i was dating my v10 till i see your review

  • lol epic meal time music

  • That's a Cooler discrimination! xO

  • I think both of those have pretty much same surface area at fins. (Noctua's are thicker but less of them)

  • Would this be good with only the fan in the middle?

  • Noctua has interesting colors like 1970's vintage products for something lol. they both do silver arrow do too.

Both are awesome coolers and I see noctua performs a little bit better than Silver Arrow in high Overclocking e.g 5.0Ghz +

  • NH D14 FTW!!!

  • Note that the Thermalright Silver Arrow is quieter than the Noctua NH-D14, while cooling better.

  • @blade00362 , I was about asking about that, I have the noctua and was really annoying that the first ram slot was unavailable XD, but I got new rams and now I am ok with the system, I am just looking for higher overclockin. but I am just not convinced in this thermaltaright cus is not big difference and I already own the otherone, nice review thanks. IU only watched the las 2 minutes XD

  • Nice Review

  • I want to overclock my i5 2500K but atm I only still have the stock cooler, I'm not sure on what kind of cooler to get especially as I only have a Mid size case (CiT black series Wraith) and i have a Asus P8H67 -m Pro B3, it has 2 4 prong fan connectors and 1 3 prong. Do you have any recommendations?

  • @MasterProBeats They sell semi okay low profile air coolers or you could go with a WC'ing setup

  • @MasterProBeats try the PROLIMATECH Genesis

  • @MasterProBeats the H67 chipset isn't capable of OC'ing, someone correct me if I'm wrong

  • @MasterProBeats You can't overclock on a h67 motherboard !

you need p 67 or z68. the silver arrow is high end but the noctua is even a little bit better therefore it looks ugly..

  • @seantal007 It came with software from the support dvd that does an auto tune overclock and it recommends a custom cooler.

  • @MasterProBeats uhm well that's unusual , but good for you ! ^^

  • @MasterProBeats get a h80 or h100 they're pre-filled wc solutions that need no refilling

  • @MasterProBeats you cant overklock with a H67 motherboard.... u need P67 or Z68 moetherboard for that

  • at 4.5ghz the nh-d14 would be better.

  • Great video WCM, very informative. Just installed my Noctua NH D14 today, and over clocked my 2600k to 4.6ghz. Idles at 20 degrees and full load at around 50. Couldn't be happier with Noctua.

  • The Thermalright looks like it was made for the Asus Sabertooth motherboard. ^^)

  • I don't know if u have responded this already but do you think the quality of the paste and or the quality of the fans is a reason to outperform the noctua?, or is it only cuz of the design of the heatsink?

  • @kmanx It may have a little to do with it, but thats exactly why I used the paste and fans provided by each manufacture....Most may use a different paste, but I highly doubt anyone would but Noctua fan to put on the Silver Arrow or visa versa.....especially when both make excellent fans and are $20 a pop.

  • i dont give a crap about color of fans tbh... all about performance ;)

  • Comment removed

  • A very interesting part of the review was the 2 fans vs. 3 fans. I had self experimented with this in the past, a more powerful fan vs. a less RPM fan, at the same cooler. The difference wasn't as big as I expected. So I concluded that the main issue is the cooler's construction, and may be a limitation on the heatpipes...?

  • What size room will we require when CPU's generate 20ghz

  • Ridiculous size....Both of them!!

  • @boneheadorwhat well that's because overclocking requires a big cooler

  • colors from soviet union

  • Other thoughts:

On the cooler paste: You only need enough to cover the CPU for a good contact. Any more is a waste. (sits in the draw unused)

On the look of the fans: No-one thinks about the colour of the fan once the case is closed.

(anyone attempting to impress their friends with the inside of their computer case has kinda missed the point of what a computer is for. Buy a new program or get a girlfriend ;-) )

  • @registerme2 Thanks for your suggestions....I really like the one about lowering the camera so it is more visible...but to be honest there is so much going on through my head when making a video something is going to get missed...lol

As far a thermal paste, I agree...I don't think I applied more that is needed...matter of fact of the many Rigs I have built, I never applied to much.

  • @registerme2 Now as far as color of fans, I disagree 100%....sure performance is more important, but as a modder and a builder of extreme High-End Custom rigs...color and/or color theme can be very important. If the side panel has no window then sure it dosen't matter, but 99% of my client builds have acrylic windows and showing off your internals is always nice...even if you are the only one looking at it....I have over $6000 invested in my PC and I am really the only one who see's it. lol

  • @WestCoastMods I mean, I just built my rig with blue motherboard, and as stupid as it sounds, I replaced all the red fans, removed the stock GPU cooler (which was red since it was a AMD card) with a EK watercooling block JUST to get a matching colour scheme..

  • @123thepyro123 Sounds nice...you should post some pics on WCM's group on Facebook.

  • Nice review, I found it very useful..

The one thing you could do to make your reviews better ,,, when looking at them side by side, bring the camera down to desk level so we can compare their clearance above the motherboard. RAM & Case clearance is often the biggest snag when installing these massive coolers.

  • Hi

Just want to ask if the thermalright fans are PWM or not? cheers

  • never mind my last comment i did just find a review that had both in it on rwlabs.com using an overclocked i7 920 @4GHz (which is what i have) and at full load the silver arrow outperformed the v10 by ~4 degrees celcius and since the v10 is considerably more expensive i'll be buying the thermalright silver arrow, thanks for the review very informative and helpful.

  • After watching this vid i thought i had made my mind up for what cpu cooler was going to replace my titan fenrir because it just doesn't seem to perform all that great, but then i saw the coolermaster v10 and now im stumped as to which is better, each review i look at that involves either of these coolers says they are the best but none i have seen has both of them in it, ironic huh.

so what are your thoughts which is better ?

  • thanks man, youve put a lot of work into this, very helpful.Cheers.

  • Being a nub I didn't buy low profile ram, so I wondered if these coolers will fit with my 4 Corsair Vengeance chips in place? Got an ASUS P67 mobo.

  • @merlechmoose I have never used low profile modules with these coolers....however each board may be a little different. I would check forums to see if others have used specs similar to yours.

  • @WestCoastMods Ok. Thank you for the help. Won't fit, so I guess I'll look for some liquid cooling with an external radiator. Anyway, nice videos. Subbed.

  • @merlechmoose Noctua has a page on their website for RAM compatibility, but no. It won't fit. Unless you remove the heat spreaders.

  • You didn't mention anything about noise, though.

  • @merlechmoose I actually have a P67 board with 2 of vengeance with silver arrow; it fits perfectly, but you wont be able to get all 4 ram down

  • It beats the Noctua at stock speeds and lower overclock, but once you overclock higher, it failes... the noctua wins... so noctua is still king...

  • 18:29 PAUSE..... epic.

now that beats my little shitty round thing (bout the size of a scooter weel) with a puny fan ontop.

  • Ok, this is not rocket science. I see a large bias towards the thermalright here. I was hopeing this would be unbiasd. First things first. 4 8mm heat pipes vs 6 6mm heat pipes. Seems to me, 6x6 will provide more heat transfer. Nest was the number of fins. From what I see, there may be less on the Noctura, but they look to be about 20% karger, againleading to better heat transfer. Just my 2c worth

  • @Verithiell It was close, but the NH-D14 didn't quite clear the Vengeance sinks on my AM3 Asus board. If they were slightly shorter it would have worked. I ended up buying a Corsair H80. Been working extremely well so far.

  • @profolactic Glad to see that the H80 is working well for you, but you do know that both of these coolers can out perform the H80...

  • So you did thank thermalright for sending u this product? But you didn't thank the noctua, which mean they did not send it to you for a review. So that means this test might be biased :D simple as that.

  • @Verithiell Already did the review on the Noctua...and thanked them then.

  • Weird, I've found two tests reviewing these and showing the Notcua being 2-3c cooler.

  • @Mkilbride2599 PM me a link...thanks

I know of the one when above 4.0......

  • metric system, SI, french sucks

  • the NH-D14 works better at higher temps. you didnt do enough test.that thing looks better but does not beat the NH-D14 at higher overclock temps. thats why u pay more for the Noctua.

  • @stunner211 If you use a Noctua once, then you stuck with Noctua :) They are top of quality and performance indeed. A model I use is the NH-12P SE and I'm very satisfied.

  • noctua has a higher heatpipe count however they are much more skinnier, and the thermalright cooler has a slightly denser fin array.

I like Noctua coolers but on this one it depends on how efficient the heat transfer is in the heatpipes, aslo if the heatpipes have a direct contact with the heatspreader/thermal compound, still both of these coolers cant touch what you can get with a 360 rad and an EK water block with some thick tubing and the fans on a push-pull layout.

  • Wow an American using metric measurements, not often you hear that.

  • @CombatSpread Not to often, but we use metric measurements sometimes..

  • I have Corsair Vengeance RAM on my board. Do think there's enough clearance to provide?

  • @profolactic I don't know bro...and for what cooler? I think you are better off Googling it.

  • @profolactic depends on the board, but frankly its unlikely, it REALLY reaches over, sometimes 2 RAM slots, and is considerably too low if it does overhang, for anything but low profile or 'ripjaws' size sinks. I'm building now and have just returned my Vengeance RAM, as I want an SA. You might be able to fit an Archon on some boards, which is excellent - but I don't want to have to send anything else back and my CPU base is too close to ram slots on an ASRock Ex4 Gen 3, possibly even for archon

  • @profolactic have you found out the answer yet? Cuz I have same problem and would eb glad if you could help me out.

  • Good review . It's helped me !

  • and i thought my NH-D14 looked ugly :S sheesh !

  • Don't you observe thet D14 have only 12cm fan + 14cm fan?

    D14 14cm + 12cm

    SA 14cm + 14cm

Think about noise . SA is undeniably louder than D14.

    It isn' good review.

  • @tutasz20 Sorry, But I think you are wrong. The specs show that the SA fans have better CFM at lower dBA, including the 120mm fan. Also, in real world scenario's the SA performed quieter than the D14, but it is real hard to tell as they both are super quiet.

  • @WestCoastMods

Specs? It does not mean anything. Manufacturer do own test with fans, and it misses the reality.

the fact is that the TR fans has more CMF, but SA is younger than D14.

    type in google:

Thermalright Silver Arrow vs Noctua NH-D14 round three

    and see what is it.

More real test would be using the same two fans on each heatsink

  • @tutasz20 Well, you must be an idiot then......because if you were to buy either one of these coolers then buy the others fans at approx. $20 USD each just because they gave you a degree or 2 better performance makes you an complete idiot....so testing them with he same fans is pointless, as most are not going to replace the excellent stock fans that come with the cooler. If that was the case then they should be going watercooling. And once you start making vids you can do them however you want!

  • @tutasz20 smaller fans are more noisy, dumb ass, they have to go faster to move the same volume of air, making them louder, you might want to know...

  • @tutasz20 Bigger fans offer more CFM/db, if they didn't all cpu fans would be using 60mm fans instead of 120mm+ you inbred retard.

  • YOU WOULD DROP THE BASS

  • Nice i have noctu nhd14 because theres is no better choice in my countryy so test with phenom x4 965 the fans comes witg noctua us finebyt nit enought so i changed to 2 silverstone 120mm 110cfm. I runs louder but 150% performs my friend test it on i5 2006k and he got 5ghz with 2h prume and temp 56max

  • I'm thinking of building a new pc, so I did a lot of searching on forums to get opinions on the best coolers, etc. I came across a post about thermal compond, and the author said he uses IC Diamond 24 carat . I thought AS5 was the best. But according to him, all other componds fail in comparison. Have you ever tried it?

  • @kenmha I am not a big fan of AS5 either.....Don't get me wrong it is a good compound, but it needs 200hrs to burn in and it is conductive. I do like IC Diamond 24k along with Cool Laboratory's Liquid Pro, Indigo Xtreme and finally Arctic Cooling MX-4.

Hope I didn't make it more confusing for you.....To simply things just go with IC Diamond and you will be fine, the difference in temps between each of these compounds is so little I wouldn't even worry about it.

  • Look at those things! LOL! Maybe I should put my car's radiator to cool my PC. :P The point is to make something small and efficient, the company that will achieve that, would prevail.

  • at 11:58 my heart stopped

  • @lenchristopher mine too :D

  • Just bought my Noctua for $79.99 Canadian before tax.

  • i want the silver arrow but i cant find any where in mexico only the d14 but i dont like the fans :S

  • @t3ckN0g33cK Have you tried Amazon?

  • @WestCoastMods

    yes but is unavailable.

right now i have the cooler master v10 but i think the silver arrow have more performance and i want go over 4.3ghz (it my currently oc) on my phenom II X4

  • @t3ckN0g33cK I will PM you.

  • @WestCoastMods Awesome intro song you got there :D. What's the name of it?

  • NH-D14 is better.. Both are better than the Corsair HXX series though ;)

  • @PhinlaxXD How is the NH-D14 better if this video clearly shows the silver arrow stepping on, chewing up and spitting, and taking a huge dump all over the NH-D14? (Ok maybe a little too dramatic sounding lol but still)

  • @InfectiousGamerTech If you are looking for a cheap cooler that will cool your tiny overclocks then the Silver Arrow may be for you. However if you want good temps at a good OC then the Silver Arrow simply cannot deliver enough cooling power.

  • @PhinlaxXD So your telling me that the NH-D14 STILL cools better on high overclocks, when in this video it clearly shows the silver arrow beating the NH-D14 on a processor of stock speeds of 2.8 GHz AND with an overclock of 4 GHz?

  • @InfectiousGamerTech It doesn't only cool better on overclocks over 4ghz, but it's the only one out of the two that does any cooling at all.

I know this from personal experience and other peoples videos. I used to have the Silver Arrow, I sold it shortly after I was getting unacceptable temps at overclocks in the 4-5 ghz region. The Noctua is a HUGE amount better at higher overclocks.

  • @PhinlaxXD Well uhh i just bought one based on the reviews here and well it runs great. Max temp 32c and around 38c to 40c on 4.1 GHz overclock on a Phenom ii x6 1100T works great for me.

  • @InfectiousGamerTech Idle temps are nothing to shout about..

  • @PhinlaxXD Full load is 49c Max for 10+ hours on Prime95

  • @InfectiousGamerTech Then there is something wrong with your temperature monitor. I don't know too much about AMD but that simply isn't possible on any Intel processor, and we all know which company makes better products..

  • @PhinlaxXD intel may make better products, but for your intel, i could build a pc that performs near your specs... also, bulldozer is coming out and the highest priced one is only $320, while intels sandy bridge-E will prolly cost $700 or so

  • @randrewm97 No, you couldn't. I also wouldn't be surprised at all if the i7 2600k outperforms or at least matches bulldozers performance in multi threaded applications.

  • @PhinlaxXD bs. intels are way overpriced. intels at the same price as an amd get smoked... cause theyre overpriced. theyre good cpus, but if i wanted to spend a shit ton, id buy an apple or something

  • @randrewm97 Lmao just because your mummy wouldn't give you enough money for a decent processor. i5's are the best price per performance on any gaming chip on the market; any argument with that?

  • @PhinlaxXD Bulldozer hasn't even been released yet lol. AMD Bulldozers have just been shipped out today :P, the difference in gaming is minimal , especially in gaming where video cards matter the most. shit the AMD 955 overclocked still does a good enough job haha. The only real major difference between CPU's is in encoding, or maybe counting to 1 Mill. Pi really fast lol etc, where AMD loses by a few seconds to a couple minutes lol. Go with Intel or AMD, win , win situation.

  • @PhinlaxXD

so the d14 is better than the silver arrow? are you sure? cuz i want one of the both for a i5 2500k processor and i want OC to 4.5 ghz - 4.8ghz maybe higher if i can. cuz i have a cooler master V10 and works great on my currently AMD 965 @ 4ghz 29c at idle 48c at maxload 10hrs prime95 and i get an EVGA p67 SLI for the i5 and have 775 socket mount and can put the V10 but i dont know about will be perform on 4ghz higher OC. you recomend the d14 over the silver arror and over V10?

  • @t3ckN0g33cK I have my i7 2600k at 4.5ghz and I max at 70C after HOURS of Prime; where as the silver arrow would overheat and my pc would shut down to prevent itself from setting fire to my house.

Simple as this: If you are look to OC to 4.8 (I would recommend only going to 4.5 on an i5 though), then the silver arrow will not be good enough where as the D14 will.

  • I would LOVE the silver arrow but i CANT FIND IT IN STOCK ANYWHERE D=

  • @InfectiousGamerTech I have a brand new, still in the box. If you are interested.......contact me at westcoastmodz@gmail.com

  • @InfectiousGamerTech I tried purchasing one through NCIX and was told after awhile that the manufacturer was on back-order till late September. Sounds like they have having some issues somewhere, hence why no one has any in stock.

  • @AmmorthNefare i found one at axiontech. I live in texas an they have 19 in stock in houston. $79.99 before shipping an junk. I recommend this company, i got mine the very next day =D

  • @InfectiousGamerTech Ahh, Ya. I'm Canadian and was trying to find everything local (to save on shipping). Decided to go with the NH-D14 as I was able to get it for $5 bucks more than what I was paying for the Silver Arrow 4.

  • Can i still put a ram cooler with that noctua installed?

  • @Dvizion08 Unlikely, but a ram cooler is real more for looks as it is really not needed.

  • @WestCoastMods ok thanks =D

  • Sorry again what do you think is better this ones or corsair hydro series? thkx :)

  • @5m4dr You are going to get the same performance of of any of them.......But I am not a fan on all-in-ones WC'ing solutions...if for me I am either going WC'ing or I'm going to stick to air. But if you want to try WC'ing and aren't sure what to buy then an all-in-one is a okay choice...I would recommend a WC'ing kit as a starter.

Anyway these kind of things are what we discuss over on my WCM's Facebook group. You should come over and join, everyone is willing to help...westcoastmods on facebook

  • @5m4dr Also you should sub my YouTube channel...many more vid coming

  • Thermaltake Frio OCK or Noctua or Silver arrow ?

  • @5m4dr The Frio is more on par with the CM GT6....won't perform like the Noctua or the Silver Arrow.

  • @TheFedility Sure, but other than the color Noctua fans a excellent performing fans......

  • Wich is better for i7 2600k Overclocked to 4,5 ghz?

  • @pedrok60 They both will be fine, but Thermalright just came out with a new cooler..... Thermalright HR-02 Macho CPU

might want to check that one out too.

  • @WestCoastMods Great, thanks!, great review and comparison btw.

  • @pedrok60 Thanks mate

  • Now, I know this is splitting hairs, but which one is shorter?

  • @xJDKx I don't recall, just Google for the specs.

  • 20 minutes of my life wasn't wasted :)

  • @Lukq95 I'm glad it wasn't wasted......thanks

  • I wouldn't want that amount of pressure on my 6 core cpu...

  • @hambo92 Why not......the more pressure..... the better contact......means lower temps!

  • Great hands-on comparison - thanks.

The pressure plate that adds torque to the middle of the other plate was a selling point for me - until I discovered that it won't work with AMD.

If you've worked much with wood clamps, you understand the importance of even pressure - so this feature seemed pretty nice.

I can torque down my water block to the max and squeeze out another degree - so I wonder if that thingamabob is responsible for the difference.

Fan size is non issue - get shorter ram.

  • @netterstyl Thanks bro.....yeah, I thought it was a good feature too.

  • At the end of the day with performance this close the decision should come down to how the cooler fits in your build.

The Silver Arrow is much more of a hassle when it comes to installation (although not as bad as other heatsinks) and the large 140mm fan will block almost all ram modules with heatsinks. Because Noctua stuck with a 120mm fan on the outside it doesn't block most ram which allows you to use much faster ram

  • @sharpshot64 Agreed......but you know that you can get fast ram that don't have the high heatsinks.....Mushkin, GSkill just to mention a few....But like you said being as close as it is, then is just depends on personal preferences.

Going to check out you Mineral Oil computer.....

    LazyMan

  • Probably should have done what you would do with coolers like these.. ie, push over 4ghz. That is where the Noctua leaves the silver arrow for dead (as you can see in the overclock3d website review.).... but then again... it isnt Noctua who sent you the free cooler is it?

  • @prettylittleditty89 I can assure you that these test were not swayed.

  • @WestCoastMods fair enough mate.... the overclock3d review showed the Silver Arrow @100c (1.45 volts, 4.4ghz OC, i7 950) while the Noctua was @ 80c. Xbitlabs however suggested results similar to yours though they used a 980x. Either way, they are both decent... but I am sticking with the Noctua. Good review though mate... just too long, cut out the fat.

  • @WestCoastMods and ah... I see you have been told all this before... sorry bud... but as I said.. great vid.

  • @prettylittleditty89 No problem bro......I have seen TTL video..and I'm not arguing it, but that being said there was another website that did a comparison, don't remember which one,.......you would have to search through the comments to find it, if you are interested. Anyway they had pushed the both coolers beyond 4.0ghz and the Silver Arrow did fine...didn't overheat like overclock3d review and Tom's video showed. But it really doesn't matter as I am a big fan of Noctua.....

  • LOL, UMAD?

  • @daredm No sir...about what

  • You have two fans set to pull instead of push, probably would of gotten better temps using the push method since it wouldn't be sucking air from the outside of the fans.

    - TR Silver Arrow Owner

    Got my AMD 1090T @ 4GHZ Prime95 24hr Blend & Small FFT Stable.

    Idle: 19C

    Full Load: 47-50C

    Thermal Paste: ICDiamond

    Good Review!

  • @ohsnapTIMOTHY ith both of these coolers I wasn't able to mount the fans on the other side of the cooler due to ram see 15:43 and then at 18:48 there was no room either. also as a rule of thumb one would mount the fans so that they blow air either to the top of the case or to the rear of the case so it would exhaust out of the case.

Also if you look at 18:29 you will see how I had to raise the fan over the ram just to get it to fit.....

  • @ohsnapTIMOTHY Are you using Real temps. Different temp apps always give different temp.......also AMD processors run cooler than Intel...

  • 30 people who watched this own a nocuta NH-D14

  • @GamerJonti LOL...I'm a Noctua owner too.....

  • Is one quieter than the other?

  • @Hotobu Yes......read the comments.

  • Comment removed

  • There's nothing about which is quieter in the comments

  • @Hotobu It is there, as I have answered this question on several occasions. The Thermaright fans put out the same CFM as the Noctua fans at a lower dBA...hence the Thermalright is slight quieter.....check the specs on both fans

But, once installed in a case, both are very quiet

  • got 'em d14 for $50 at ncix

    muhahahahaha

  • Finally real temps, i thought i was the only person who is getting 84 degrees at full load with h50.

  • @djBC10000 Yeah, some ppl like to exaggerate their temps, or simply are not using Prime 95 correctly.

  • nice copy, thermalright... anytime im looking for a CPU cooler i always read THERMALTAKE instead of THERMALRIGHT.... is this some copy-company or something?

  • @gabrocki They are two different companies.......

  • @gabrocki Thermaltake doesn't make good coolers. Thermalright has been making excellent coolers for a while. Their TRUE cooler was the gold standard for several years.

  • @RSProjectX what about a CM Hyper 212+ for someone who doesnt have enough space/cash for a noctua?

  • @gabrocki The Thermaltake Frio wasn't that bad of a cooler....IMO

  • Noctua still looks better...

  • i have to say those fans Thermalright got nothing on the noctua fans. noctua FTW :-)

  • @191kieran191 I would read the specs again then, as the Thermalright TR TY 140mm fans have a lower dBA at the same CFM....don't get me wrong Noctua makes excellent fans, but the Thermalright are just a tad bet better spec wise...and during my testing (real world) the TR TY's seemed just a little bit quieter. Google the specs if you don't believe me.
