I'm watching a video from a band whose singer is one of the biggest defenders of animal rights and there's an advertisement for a barbecue Subway sandwich on it. Sadly ironic, Youtube...
Greatest lyricist bar none really....I've always loved The Smiths and I know Moz can be a precious cream bun (the bastard walked out on us in Liverpool - and no I'm a Manc) but his lyrics have always said so much to me....such a great talent !! Timeless !!
I got called into work today on my day off, clearly I was so pissed off and as I was driving on the freeway playing my ipod. This song came on and it just made my day 100x better.
I love the Smiths and have for so so long. But I have to agree with marks1979efc up there, and say" what lyrics". Where have you ever heard that concept presented with such vivid imagery. and lyrical beauty..The only time I think that being run into by a ten ton truck and killed could actually seem "romantic"
i went out last night clubbing and spent about 90 minutes begging the dj to play this song, after 2 bought beers and incesant nagging from me he obliged, totally worth the time and money to hear it in a club in 2012 ahahah people had no idea what the song was.
Mate no idea where you go out but head up to Leeds. I was at uni there till not too long ago and the DJ's in Cockpit and Wire were much obliged to play any song by the Smiths. But that's the North for ya! Definitely my favourite Smiths song.
Wow, this song just electrifies my being and makes me feel very nostalgic. It makes me feel like shit.....but, in the end, there is hope (the light that never goes out).
Can someone please explain to me why I am hearing "There is a Light That Never Goes Out", but seeing the video for "Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One Before"? Very weird. There is an official video for this song, but this isn't it.

I used to cut my hair like Morrisey since I was a child, I remember my uncle told me that this is the way a 80's musician cut his hair.. and I liked it haha
Yeah. I never wondered until now why people find my choice of music inconsistent. Maybe its because i listen to them all and never bothered what they are nor where i first heard them. Whether it be techno, oldies, rock, pop, rnb, country or rap. Hey, As long as it's good music, has a good beat, has a meaning, I'll listen to it.
Doesn't matter if you first heard before it was mainstream. The thing is if you really love it you won't give a flying fuck as long as you enjoy listening to it.

@iloveyou9096 Sorry, not to be an ass but I'm just so tired of fucking hipsters. They're like a freaking epidemic in Philly, and for all their smug sense of accomplishment they've done nothing. Most of the bands are straight garbage, and all the hipsters do is ride around in new Jettas and on overpriced, retro ten-speeds, thinking they're some kind of cultural revolution.
And comparing the Smiths to such losers is just irritating to me. Sorry.
Honestly if I ever EVER see a groupie of these people riding through the streets of my city, I will run after them until I find out where they are from <3 :)
@SonHouse245 Bob Dylan a true poet and master musician. He used to hang around the village NYC back in the early 70's. He sung this song that had so many lyrics to it it was impossible to memorize. "Blowing in the wind" great example of thought provoking lyrics. "Everybody must get stoned" I guess he liked drugs a lot but then back then who did not? There was a huge druggie culture of musicians writing drug induced music to listen to while high.Artistic expression of life experience.
@5934931 500 days of summer? I first heard "How soon is now" in the movie "The Craft" about four witches in high school. I thought the song was created for the movie it was not.Later I heard it on the radio.I was enthralled overwhelmed it haunted me forever. Nobody mentions the movie "The Craft". I guess I have been around longer than most of you.Great music/lyrics anyway.
I love this song and the video so much. Makes me proud to live in Salford. Went over to the Salford Lads Club today, walked round the streets where this was filmed :). Recommend going! There is a The Smiths room inside the club that you can see too. So good.

@binary191 To be honest mate I think it's due to the depressing nature of the place that good music comes from there, I mean The Smiths is hardly full of cheer is it? Basically comfort does not great art make - Miami's lovely but I've never heard of a single decent band or artist coming from there hehe. Personally I love Manchester, but I'm of an outsiders' opinion so perhaps living there precludes an outpouring of angst into the most amazing music... Just a thought :)
@jimmyart007 You are dead wrong.Consider Gloria Estefan and the Miami sound machine. Lyrically , vocally and musically she has produced masterpieces in "pop" art music. Some of her love songs are truly great works of music. You have to listen to her carefully seriously to truly appreciate her. Her voice is like butter and honey auditive caress. One of the greatest vocalists I have ever heard in the ranks of Mary Hopkin. A true proffessional of the craft.
@MrMultijosefus You missed my point slightly there, I was merely thinking of a stereotypically glamorous place and comparing it to Manchester. Wasn't particularly having a pop at Miami or Gloria Estefan. Although it's lovely to know how much you like her, my mother does too: if a little bizarre.
