@Yahoomediaclub Thanks! Sounds like you have a nice setup.Personally I don't use the quantizing/beat features on the rc50. I turn the guide off, and build up either from the bassline or beatboxed drums. For this video, I led with the open B and E strings then built around that. You can sync to the wavedrum and vice versa, so that the wavedrum follows whatever loop you set up. I wanna check out some vids. thanks!

@grzana2429 Use Sub Bass, 60% Octave, 40% direct, put on a bit of gain, lows up, use the neck pickup, play the notes softly-and palm mute the notes a bit, since the octaves do not track well in the POD.
nice session dude, I'm in love with the X3 right now and will get it within like 2 months. already have the RC-50 and that machine is awesome too. so I guess I will probably end up with the same setup as you in a while lol...
@UltraBeatZ Thank you very much! I used the RC-50, but really for a recording such as this you can use a lot of different pedals-like the boss rc2, or rc20xl or whatever. I only used one loop on the rc-50. Also you can use any of the POD pedals, though you're bound to get more mileage out of Boss truthfully, since they have a better built-in bass sound. All in all, for a budget of $300-to $500 max you can do all of this as well.

Really nice playing. But I would like to know a thing. Does the X3live has a looper by itself, like GT-10, or I have to use a separated one, because I'm planing to buy one, and it would be great to know
That I don't know, though others on here may be able to answer that one. One person said they have a digitech, and the POD blows it away. Best to test them out and see what works best.
nice man... i want that lead tone, n im usin a gt-10.. i heard a similar tone in some songs from as i lay dyin n m dyin to hav it.. if any1 knws how to get it wit a gt-10, i'd really b thnkful...
Thanks man. I know you can get that sound w/the GT 10. It should be easy to set up if you follow the prompts on the screen. I think there may be a Steve Vai patch-and that will sound similar. The combination of a lot of gain, and delay without too much midrange will get you in the area.
Hi Bushinarin. I really appreciate your kind words. The USB would not work in my PC, because me PC reads everything as USB hubs. I plugged everything into the X3 Live, then ran the regular outs (live outs) into the input of the RC-50. I then ran the RC50 direct into my soundcard (auxilary inputs), and recorded it the same time as I recorded the video. I blended the video and audio together and synced them in Sony Vegas, than rendered it as an MP4. Hopefully that clears it up. Thanks again!
Hello, nice vid, shame the sync is a bit iffy, I have similar trouble on one of mine! I noticed you have the rc-50. I have similar setup, rc-20 and rc-50, other effects etc. I am thinking of buying the line 6 pedal your are using. I noticed it sounded like you used a pitch shift an octave down for the bass part in this pieace. I just wondered how good/flexable the pitch shifter is? I have heard complaints about it, but it sounded good on your vid. I really need low octave parts on my loops
Thanks-the octave effect is a pain. Ion this video I has to palm mute, and make sure I did not hit the strings too hard, otherwise the notes freak out. Definitely slow tracking. Boss effects are better for octaves I find. I also use a digitech bass synth pedal which is the best I have found for this kind of thing.
It is cool in the effects realm especially because you really can have eight different tones per bank, or run layers for 2 guitars or a microphone and guitar etc. Also the amp simulators kick ass. After taking it out for a couple years then playing with a cheap distortion box in the Neil Diamond tribute act I play in-naw it isn't too necessary, and the POD takes up room on the plane. I've linked my looper with the Boss GT8 and get the same results as on this video but with a better bass sound.
...to add to my prev comment, you really have to try it out. overrall the POD sounds amazing, and the tone can be very necessary, or not-as-important as performance depending on the situation. I say try it against the BOSS GT-10, and the Digitech RP1000, and possibly a Zoom G9.2tt and Vox Tonelab to see where it stands sound-wise.
Hey guyz my name is wajahat...please help..I have a gt-10 and I want to make the phaser as a surround sound effect so actually moves when set up live..I wanna do this on stage so plz help plz plz plz plz what ever equipment that can help me achieve this please post plz plz plz
Sure-Lately I've been using cheap distortion boxes to my Boss GT-8 for variety. As long as you have a loopstation you can interchange any of the sound effects.
MY post did not post-anyway I ran it mono for this video. Guitar in, and mic in, then I ran the live out into the instrument in on the Boss unit then that into the PC. Thanks a lot man!
Use Sub Bass, 60% Octave, 40% direct, put on a bit of gain, lows up, use the neck pickup, play the notes softly. Octaves do not track well in the POD.
You still need a loop pedal like the one to the left of it. For this particular song you can use any loop pedal, like a Boss RC50 (in video), RC20, RC2, Akai Headrush, etc. X3 Live does NOT have a built in looper. Please post video, and let me know about it. I'm always up to checking out looping videos. Thanks-JM
It sounds like you got an old production line model that had some shorting out going on. I'd first download the firmware update and see if that helps/shake it around/bang on it-otherwise maybe take it to an authorized dealer or contact Line 6 directly.
Exactly. The X3 Live does not have a looper built-in, and in order to do a song like I did, I need a ooper hence both the RC-50 for looping and the X3 Live for sounds. Thanks!
Thanks... i thought that x3 had a loop station because i'm stupid.. cuz i've seen "loop" on the board and i do not think that was loop effects and not a loop station! xD
i have an xt live and seems that x3 live is much more better than the xt live... i think i'm gonna sell mine and buy an x3 live.
I'd check the output-make sure you are coming out of the 'live out. Also check the volume, both input and output. If none of those work, then you may need to take it back and chck it out at the store you got it from.
I just plug guitar into 'input', then 'live out' left into the instrument 'in' on the looper, then the looper's output (right mono) into whatever source is chosen.
Thanks very much! You can do everything on the POD 2.0 that was done on here. The major difference w/this one is the pedals so you can stomp and change the different sounds by foot, a microphone in jack and a few other things. I still had to use the Boss looper to loop everything. Soundwise the POD 2.0 definitely delivers! Most of the sounds are excellent. I like a cool funk or smooth rock sound myself, and the POD's do deliver.
Thanks. I'm not too familiar with riffworks, but I think it may have a looping feature in it. Otherwise it is very cool for recording. You can get loopyllama or GLoop software for free that loops. I really like Ableton Live 8-since I can loop like crazy then put it into full blown songs as well.
No problem. Thanks for the comment. I could have put drums on there, but the point with this one was to make all of the music from scratch before your eyes. The beatboxing is not as strong at those guys who kick out amazing beats/scratches etc, as I am more of a guitar player than anything else, but once all gets going-it is a simple backbeat for the rest of the ideas. I feel canned drums would have made it more robotic.
It depends on taste-Boss is great for emulating stompboxes. Some believe Line 6 has better tone. The me-70 doesn't have amp sim features, is more basic. A more accurate comparison would be w/the Boss GT-10. Pop into a music store and try them both. Try yet a few others like the Zoom G9.2tt, Digitech GNX 4-which has unbelievable features, Digitech rp1000 which works like a stompbox collection. Hell..try Behringer FX600 for $39 bucks! Good luck.
I should have done some research before posing a comment :) XT is $399, X3 is $499 XT has 36 guitar amps, X3 has 76 XT has 84 stompbox and studio effects, X3 has 98 XT has no vocal preamps (or vocal input), X3 has 6 XT is USB 1.1, X3 is USB 2.0 (faster) conneciton XT can do one tone at once, X3 can blend 2 patches together
XT has a smaller LCD display, X3s is nearly double the size XT has traditional out, X3 has S/PDIF and XLR out in addition to 1/4″ jacks
That's cool. And possibly the XT series is exactly what you need. the only way to know for sure is to try them out. X3 being a a 2.0 USB connection renders mine useless to USB because all my USB's are hubs, so the 1.0 would be perfect. For the money, for me I still like the X3, though lately it is more fun to plug into cheap analog stuff, as the attack is better, and I can reach down and tweak it to my hearts content.
Thanks. For the most part I also used the minor pentatonic. I threw in the occasional 2nd and b6 scale degrees found in the aeolian mode, but those occurred about 4 times in the tune. The root key is C# minor, and the main position would be based off the 9th fret of the low e. I throw in the occasional D# or A to sweeten the melody a bit. I am most comfortable in minor pentatonic and am very careful if I deviate from it.
You see..I wonder..is there anything more to this world.I guess we all have asked our self that question, but can you answer it?...well,can you, huh?
Hey, have any of you tried the "audio preview" before you post a comment? I tried to listen to this text above while I played the first part of this video (before the solo) - I thought it was great - played it over and over again xD

I'm almost certain I've asked this before, but I can't find our conversation.
How did you record this? It couldn't have been through the USB port that the Pod has, nor the microphone since you used it to beatbox.
I'm pretty inable of figuring out a way to record loops in a high quality way, like you've done here.
It's still a spectacular job you've done by the way. Every time I watch your video's I'm always blown away by your musicianship.

for some reason most of the times my pedal doesnt work/no volume no wah/ and sometimes randomly it does. any idea how i could make it work?
antalpster 2 years ago
It sounds like you got an old production line model that had some shorting out going on. I'd first download the firmware update and see if that helps/shake it around/bang on it-otherwise maybe take it to an authorized dealer or contact Line 6 directly.

good work. :D
you need the boss loop station??
pod x3 live don't have loop station??
Gerson619ASY 2 years ago
Exactly. The X3 Live does not have a looper built-in, and in order to do a song like I did, I need a ooper hence both the RC-50 for looping and the X3 Live for sounds. Thanks!
burninguitfiddle 2 years ago
Thanks... i thought that x3 had a loop station because i'm stupid.. cuz i've seen "loop" on the board and i do not think that was loop effects and not a loop station! xD
i have an xt live and seems that x3 live is much more better than the xt live... i think i'm gonna sell mine and buy an x3 live.
Gerson619ASY 2 years ago
i connected my xlr mic to the pod x3 but there isnt a sound coming out... input settings are on "mic" already
FlakMTz 2 years ago
I'd check the output-make sure you are coming out of the 'live out. Also check the volume, both input and output. If none of those work, then you may need to take it back and chck it out at the store you got it from.
burninguitfiddle 2 years ago
The preamp on the x3 live doesn't have phantom power. You'll need a different mic type or external power source. Sucks, but thats the way it is.
Guitarzoink 2 years ago
Ah...this is true as well. I did not think of that. Thanks Guitarzoink!
burninguitfiddle 2 years ago
I have the rc-50 and the x3 live how are you hooking them up? Like if you have just a guitar. What are the input and output labels?
jgray22 2 years ago
I just plug guitar into 'input', then 'live out' left into the instrument 'in' on the looper, then the looper's output (right mono) into whatever source is chosen.

thats pretty cool ! I got pod 2.0 I kinda wish i would of waited and saved for the x3 live nice playing too are most the sounds pretty good?
shaylamarie23 2 years ago
Thanks very much! You can do everything on the POD 2.0 that was done on here. The major difference w/this one is the pedals so you can stomp and change the different sounds by foot, a microphone in jack and a few other things. I still had to use the Boss looper to loop everything. Soundwise the POD 2.0 definitely delivers! Most of the sounds are excellent. I like a cool funk or smooth rock sound myself, and the POD's do deliver.

I've heard this thing can simulate pretty much any pro amp sound I could want. Is that true? And how much is one of these things new?
P0mt3 2 years ago
This is true. It runs about $450 or so.
burninguitfiddle 2 years ago
I see. Actually, that isn't a bad price at all for what it offers. Thanks for the info.
Really great playing, by the way! :)

dats sick mate, i got riffworks with my pod x3 live, its similar kinda idea with looping isnt it?
dareheaven2 2 years ago
Thanks. I'm not too familiar with riffworks, but I think it may have a looping feature in it. Otherwise it is very cool for recording. You can get loopyllama or GLoop software for free that loops. I really like Ableton Live 8-since I can loop like crazy then put it into full blown songs as well.
burninguitfiddle 2 years ago
nice
looping would be a too advanced for me atm i think
ill stick withj covers for a while
lol

why u dont put drums by the rc-50 it has drum machine right?
but great nice work for all and excuse my language
4511702 2 years ago
I feel canned drums would have made it more robotic.

no problem and good work again
4511702 2 years ago
buy a gt10 from boss and u dont need an extra looper^^
tirithon147 2 years ago
Exactly! And the looper works extremely well. My problem is no mic input/preamp otherwise I'd have all over this one.

should I buy this one or boss me-70 ?
mikatarkela89 2 years ago
It depends on taste-Boss is great for emulating stompboxes. Some believe Line 6 has better tone. The me-70 doesn't have amp sim features, is more basic. A more accurate comparison would be w/the Boss GT-10. Pop into a music store and try them both. Try yet a few others like the Zoom G9.2tt, Digitech GNX 4-which has unbelievable features, Digitech rp1000 which works like a stompbox collection. Hell..try Behringer FX600 for $39 bucks! Good luck.

x3 is prettier than xt
but xt is better
aryaxt 2 years ago
why?
deeck 2 years ago
I was wrong
I should have done some research before posing a comment :) XT is $399, X3 is $499 XT has 36 guitar amps, X3 has 76 XT has 84 stompbox and studio effects, X3 has 98 XT has no vocal preamps (or vocal input), X3 has 6 XT is USB 1.1, X3 is USB 2.0 (faster) conneciton XT can do one tone at once, X3 can blend 2 patches together
XT has a smaller LCD display, X3s is nearly double the size XT has traditional out, X3 has S/PDIF and XLR out in addition to 1/4″ jacks
aryaxt 2 years ago 2
That's cool. And possibly the XT series is exactly what you need. the only way to know for sure is to try them out. X3 being a a 2.0 USB connection renders mine useless to USB because all my USB's are hubs, so the 1.0 would be perfect. For the money, for me I still like the X3, though lately it is more fun to plug into cheap analog stuff, as the attack is better, and I can reach down and tweak it to my hearts content.

BTW, what scales and modes are you playing for the lead solo?
see, im getting stuck in the penatonic/blues scale with soloing, so if u could help out, that would be awesome, great job though!
Monkeyfist27X 2 years ago

Great Vid by the way!!!
