You're actually solving a mystery I've been trying to solve since first hearing this in Hannibal: Is this aria from a complete opera or is it a stand-alone piece written specifically for the film?
Thanks Good to know this ..I love this music fell in love with it watching Hannibal beautiful !!! and now i can listen to it any time on You Tube ... thanks
Um pouco antes, ou depois, talvez nunca..... cai-se-me do peito uma lágrima... e ...afogo-me nela... devagar..... tão devagarinho...... que o tempo volta a passar...... e, de novo, Io sono in pace..........
Es tan hermoso, tan reconfortante, y podria seguir con los "tan"... Es inevitable no sentir el amor apenas escuches esta cancion y la letra es maravillosamente sublime. Aveces me cuesta creer q algunas personas no disfruten este tipo de musica.
just the best song ever made, when you are listening to this, you can see the truth and know that you must enjoy every moment of your life till angels come to pick you up :)
@crete484 can you suggest any more great opera pieces? I don't know the genre, and up till this song, opera pieces I heard did not appeal to me. Keen to hear more like this :).
@pergolesi3 - Hmm. Of course, it sounds nice, as it is Vide Cor Meum performed by the same composer, orchestra, lead soprano, and lead tenor. However, this version is recorded faster and brighter than most other versions that I've heard on YouTube. As such, this version loses a significant amount of emotion compared to the others. The tempo and tone of the others is much more grave (pronounced [grah-vey]) evoking a much deeper and more solemn emotion. Compare to: /watch?v=KN5AG14x8mQ
It is not exactly latin, but a Tuscany dialect , with some latin sentences interspersed in it. Dante actually selected that primitive italian language to write this piece.
@logica10 Dante wrote in his own Italian dialect (Florentine) with minor Sicilian and Occitan features. Italian (a term which wasn't used back then to name any language) would be later standarize on that Florentine. So this song is just in Italian. Due to the fact that the linguistic line started by Dante have had an autonomous literary evolution, namely the standardization of Italian, whereas the spoken Tuscan dialects evolved separately, it's correct to say that Dante's language is Italian.
is wonderfull, magnificent, plain of feelings,i want to hear all complete, this patrick cassidy is a revelation to me,is the first time i heard this master piece,
i fell deeply in love with this song while watching 'Hannibal' and it's been played regularly ever since. sometimes, i even put it on repeat b4 i sleep :D
The song's lyrycs are not entirely in latin, actually the only latin lines are "ego dominus tuus; vide cor tuum; vide cor meum; cor tuum; cor meum" the rest is italian.
Thank you for this! You've got all the information about the piece-that's the way it should be done.
This music is proof that modern composers can create beautiful music, why then, do so many of them choose to come up with discordant work? With the exception of film, we are in an ugly age.

Neat trick -- as the "opera" was made up, and the song composed, specifically for the movie.
I'd like to borrow your time machine someday, if you can spare it for a day or two.
