As a Chet Atkins/Jerry Reed type picker myself, the fact that you play Chet's part of this song is pretty admirable.. The other thing you're doing right is playing it slower than Jerry.. I think he played that a bit too fast (show off) but he missed a lot of the notes or some were not clear (what am I to say, an expert?).. anyway that's about the right pace and if you play that in open mic or something, you should announce that you're playing both parts of Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins.
I enjoy playing it a bit slower sometimes,Fast is fun also but I thought viewers might get more out it if there trying to learn it,And like Chet once said"it's the space thats beetween the notes that really count,Not how many notes you can get in a space"
I played lefty as a little kid (8) but my cousin turned me around to play right handed when I was 12- alas your much cooler ; ^ ) I'll just study your vid and see what I can do w/ it. Thanks for posting this and Rhapsody. gb
finally, somebody who does not play it as fast as possible, and lefthanded so I can locate the fingers a bit easier :) I found some tabs on the net but I feel they're not completely accurate.
I really want to learn to play this but I have to do it from ear and by looking at the video's.
I've seen many people play it faster then they are capable of. I just learned this song when I posted it so It might be a bit slow for all the Jerry Reed fans.Hope this helps you learn, its a fun song to play. Thanks,
It has! Well, so far I only practiced Jerry's part, from his live version with Chet., so I play some parts a little different, and I can almost keep up with the video (but it's FAST). Besides that, the only acoustic I have available is a 12-string, so it's really hard work :) I see you play a lot of Chet Atkins stuff. Being a dire straits/mark knopfler fan I got in touch with Chet Atkins' music through the 'neck and neck' album they made together. There's some great tunes there as well.
i cant stop listening to this song :o its got somthin that other songs dont have for me. Wish i could play it but im bad at finger pickin, gotta practice :P
I originaly learned it from the record around 1975 and just found the video of chet and jerry playing it. I picked up a lot of short cuts watching jerry play it. So to answere you question " I learned it by ear as a kid and refined it by eye as an adult" thanks to youtube.
Good tempo and sounds pretty darn musical the way you pulled it off.
