The other kid spun around to whip his arm free from Kolat's Russian Two-on-One hold, Kolat's signature move. The kid unfortunately fell to flat at the end of his spin; it seemed like the kid tried to turn the spin into a leg attack on Kolat, but missed. When the other kid fell flat at the end of his spin is when Kolat came over him for the takedown.

You're right, he's had a lot of bad luck with stuff like that -- and that sucks. But overcoming adversity is part of being a champion. Gable went into the '72 Olympics with a badly injured knee, and during the first match he took a head-butt that opened up a seven-stitch cut on his head. He decided that the way to respond was to put the rest of his opponents away as quickly as possible, so that the injuries couldn't become factors. The rest is history.

Kolat is a superb wrestler, but unlike Gable and Sanderson he struggled to win collegeiate national championships, and he's never won gold at the Olympics or the World Championships. I don't put him in quite the same class as either of them. Not because he doesn't have the talent -- he does -- but because he seems to have trouble putting it together when the big chips are down.

I've never seen a wrestler destroy such a top rated opponent (36-2 record) in such a short time. I'm surprised the guy lasted as long as he did under such a relentless attack. To say that Kolat is a human wrecking machine is an understatement.
