@koln1996 I can't really answer that question. She has said that she was verbally abusive when in the manic phases of her bipolar disease. I don't know about physical abuse. As I said above, so a google search on "patty duke sean astin 20/20" to find the article on ABC's web site. Whatever happened in the past, her relationship with her sons now is one of mutual love and respect.
Patty had undiagnosed bipolar disease, and in her manic phases abused her sons. I can't paste a url here, but if you so a google search for "patty duke sean astin 20/20" you will find the article on ABC's web site.
I can't believe how young Patty Duke was here (35). She has a teenage son, so in the film she must have been...what....17 when she had Lance Guest's character?? Patty Duke, while always beautiful, was a "hard" 35 yrs old here! She actually looked better with age.
I am a big Patty Duke fan and never seen this film... and am thankful to the person who posted this film here.
This is a crock, she would have discussed the babysitting with her parents first.

Patty Duke had not been diagnosed, received the proper therapy, or medication until 1982. How much of this was acting?

i like how the intro music is all chipper and up-beat when the topic deals with child abuse.

Thank you for posting this. It's amazing to think that little Sean actually went through something not unlike this as a child.
