this is the stupidist video ever I live in statesboro and it is NOT boring since those pics weve gotten a lot of new places u make it look like some hill billy trailer park town U STINK
Wonderful photos but I must say if is a little silly to call this place conforming and empty. Although Statesboro may be below the bible belt and many people seem to have the same conservative values, there are many interesting/ unique people that have grown up here. What I mean to say sir, is that there are amazing people in each town across the world. Not one of us is exactly alike.
if you have a title of emptiness and monotony? you should have stuck to rural areas. and if you are having trouble with depression try using a diff, filter on your camera. Try looking in color
Hello, the reason I'm here is because I had a dream this morning about a place called Eureka, Georgia. I had never heard of that place before, and was wondering if it really existed. I found a populated place in Bulloch county, Statesboro Georgia, called Eureka Church street. Do you know anything about that location? . I just think it's strange to dream of a place that I never have heard of neither been to. In the dream It was northwest of Albany, Ga. Thank you.
I've never heard of such a place. It's interesting to hear that you are investigating the dream though. The phrase "Eureka!" does make it sound very dream-oriented. Good luck on the hunt.
@Ijjios YES! There is eureka church road in clito and this area used to be called eureka community. its out 301 north towards sylvania, then turn rt on clito road and i think its the first dirt road on the left. Hope that helps
Obviously every city, town, and community has its own unique qualities. As to good or bad, missing something or not, I guess that really is in the eye of the beholder. The nice part of being able to choose where one lives...pick the places you like, ignore those you don't. I can admit that there are good things in places I may not care so much for...and can say that there are things which need improving in a place I love--but I try to stay positive and work hard to make things better!
Not exactly sure if you mean to imply that everything about Statesboro fits your title, or just representing that at times those feelings may prevail. No big city or small town (or anything in between) has all good or all bad. Statesboro has lots of really good images that you failed to include. It's a great place to live, and I suspect if your attitude is reflected by your title, the words have more to do with your own outlook on life than any particular city (Statesboro or otherwise).
That's a very good point; nothing is ever truly black or white, and the emotions we have about any entity are dependent on our own unique input and perspective. The nifty thing about art/film/music/photography though is they have the ability to focus and emphasize one thing (the negative in my example).
However, I have visited many places in the world, including Delhi, London, Athens, Paris, Jerusalem, etc. and I must say the deep South--despite some positive cultural values--is missing a lot.
ay.....what yall know bout dat vandy's brunswick stew.....yea shawty......get wit it or get ran over.....YEAH IM FROM STATESBORO.....shout out 2 HollyWood's and Master Den's barbershop.....
Well, I'm sure there are big cities that don't fit that description, but none of them are in the U.S. So, yes, if we're talking about this country, go ahead and try to find a big city that has no giant, soulless buildings or carjackings.
The point of this video, by the way, is not whether bigger cities are crowded, soulless, or full of egotistical materialists--that may be true depending on how you view it. If that were the point I would've focused on LA or NY.
But the opposite of Statesboro is not some lifeless depressing city. Nothing is black and white. That's how that tiny bubble begins to shape your world perspective; you immediately become convinced that there is no other way that works better.
Besides, there are sacrifices to be made in any scenario. Even if an increase in such urban scariness is inevitable, I'll take the possibility of a broken window over half-wit hillbillies any day.
A broken window? I don't live in Statesboro, but I've spent time there. Where I live it's getting bigger and bigger and the chances of a broken window are rare. A broken head is becoming much more likely.
I'm from a large city, but I have also lived in a small rural town about 25 miles from Statesboro for a couple of years. I also attended college at GSU. From my understanding, the majority of the people who speak so negatively about small towns are people who were humiliated at some point during their stay in the small town. Perhaps you were embarrassed and your embarrassing incident spread like wild fire? That's a pretty common thing in small towns, but small towns have their perks too.
That makes no sense. The "embarrassing incident" spread like wildfire to where? Adjacent fields? Give up the Freudian analysis. Some people don't like small towns because some of them fucking suck, especially in south Georgia. Easy enough.
Thanks for your opinion! And you're right in that those who are especially sensitive or defensive to the video may actually understand the negativity here even better than I do.
Life, to my mind, should be full of changes; moving about as you please and growing through your experiences. Being here impacted me in certain ways, but it is only a minor chapter. I don't intend to go stagnant here and pretend this bland town is the best I can achieve in life.
Honestly, I'm getting sick and tired of people talking about Statesboro like it's "an uneventful black hole of a place." No place is perfect, and you make due with what you have. I've lived here for most of my life, and while it can be boring at times, have met some amazing people here. Statesboro is not just rednecks and racists. Get over yourself.
Well if you are tired of it, there must be some validity to my opinions given the fact other people have made similar comments to you about it.
Of course nothing is perfect, cities included. But the reality is there isn't much "to make due with" here.
And the video is certainly a blatant generalization. I just chose to focus on this aspect here. Flowers bloom all over the world, and there are definitely amazing people in Statesboro, but their numbers are relatively few and far between.
It's ironic you told me to get over myself seeing as the town glorifies everything about the self... with the soccer moms, church groups, sleezy pubs, endless gossip, and competitive male-dominance.
Well its a good thing there are roads so you can go back to wherever you came from. I also like how you didnt have to go very "far". All the way down Lakeview? Hmmm.
Good idea, get rid of those who disagree. Get those cynical, over-analyzing pessimists out of here! "If you don't like it boy, then take yonder dirt road back to where you came from."
And since when is a 10 minute drive considered far?
When I went down to Statesboro during high school I noticed more the bad then I did of the good, I don't regret my decision to stay home but I wish I would have noticed some of the beauty.
Its a great place to film a horror movie, i'll give it that at least.

@Ijjios It is most likely a vision of another lifetime. I had a similar one about Jamestown, NY.

What a depressing set of images- I went to college here- It's a tough town- Athens sucks to though.

You are so right! It's much more exciting to live in a crowded anthill full of giant glass boxes and carjackings.

Because of course every big city fits that apt description. You're right. It's too dangerous and crowded for little ole me.

This comment was originally removed by the author, but for the sake of entertainment and edification I am re-posting:
blbeacham83 has made a comment on Statesboro, Ga: Emptiness, Conformity, and Monotony:
"If you are bored in Statesboro, its because you are boring in Statesboro."
Which is equivalent to saying that environment has nothing to do with one's mental state. Which is, of course, far from the truth. Nice try.
