  • I've never been to a baseball match ( nor in the US, sadly ) , and I really know a little about the rules, or about Joe himself. It seems he was great, like Paul Robinson and this video..and I shivered. Sorry for my english

  • Brings tears to my eyes, still years later.

Where have you gone Joe D?

  • one of those performances that leave you silent. The result of which is the function of art.

  • what year was this?

  • @DebraSandman92 1999, after Joe DiMaggio died.

  • RIP Joe we still love you

  • I guess there's one person that don't like baseball.

  • I love Joe Torre's look just after the 1 minute mark. He knows good music! I always did like him.

  • I was at this game. It was awesome.

  • remember this like it was yesterday. we were still playing in the CWS playoffs back in 1999 and the entire team watched this before a game. Im not a yanks fan and it gives me chills. RIP JOE!

  • @TheGriff45 Its the loss of our innocence summed up in a few lines. Beautiful

  • Nice all time song and the one and only tribute respected throughout decades

  • that was absloutley beautiful!

  • Cool...

Would've been alot cooler if it was at Dodgers Stadium and it was Mr. Robinson

  • I definitely remember this. 1999 seems like ages ago today. I kinda wish that wasn't so. But, anyway, R.I.P to Joey D. And R.I.P to the ol' Stadium, I really miss that place already (even though I never got a chance to go inside and see a Bombers game live. But I'm not a huge crowd guy. I'm from BK!!!).

Not much of a Paul Simon fan. (I'm a Art Garfunkel brother! :-)) But he did his thing at The Stadium in '99 with this tribute. Kinda epic for the time.

    GO YANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • goose bumps

  • goose bumps.

  • A beautiful tribute!

    - Ian

  • the man stands alone in the middle of that huge stadium and belts something he belives in and there isnt much better any man can do heres to you paul simon heres to you.

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • I was here, sitting in the bleachers...and watching this still gives me chills today!

  • I remember watching this live. Joe Dimaggio just died and the Yankees paid tribute to him. With Paul, standing at Joe's position in center field, ending the song with the line about Joe, I remember the goosebumps I had, it was so eerie. A great tribute to 1 of the best Yankees ever.

  • "In these days of Presidential transgressions and apologies and prime-time interviews about private sexual matters, we grieve for Joe DiMaggio and mourn the loss of his grace and dignity, his fierce sense of privacy, his fidelity to the memory of his wife and the power of his silence." - Paul Simon

  • Still this song is the best song performed in a stadium ever

  • Performed with such pathos. This song is quite transformed. And watch how the ballplayers are absolutely transfixed.

  • Such a great moment, such a great tribute.

  • very emotional even though i´m a mets fan

  • I agree. I'm not even a Yanks fan but it gives me goosebumps.

  • yeah, in retrospect, we know he was always trying to say, "why is this culture devoid of that integrity that DiMaggio held?" now, "why did DiMaggio leave us?" but rather, "Why did we leave DiMaggio?"

  • seriously.. it gives me chillllllllzzzz

hair standing right up on my arms. and that for a dutch guy..

  • absolutely chilliing.... a great tribute from a great artist and man for another great man and ballplayers....

  • oddio io mi vergognerei troppo a cantare così, impalato in mezzo a un campo da baseball con tutti che mi guardano..

    -.-'

  • It is extremely difficult for me to express in words how much I loathe the Yankees. But Paul Simon's music is extremely important to my life. This video combines two extremes and it is nevertheless wonderful to watch. A fantastic clip. Thank you so much for posting. Go Red Sox and go Paul Simon!

  • red sox blow

  • i hope one day you get a guitar shoved up your red sox ass

  • Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for it for a longtime. I watched it live. The reverberation just sounds so amazing. Beautiful. Thanks again.

  • Hello eric1012wi,

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Can you tell me the brand of guitar paul performed?

  • B2J, Thx for visiting!

Gurian is the brand of that guitar.

  • probably the single greatest moment in music thanks for the post bro

  • No, I think that is his Martin he started playing about that time, and he still plays today.
