I've never been to a baseball match ( nor in the US, sadly ) , and I really know a little about the rules, or about Joe himself. It seems he was great, like Paul Robinson and this video..and I shivered. Sorry for my english
remember this like it was yesterday. we were still playing in the CWS playoffs back in 1999 and the entire team watched this before a game. Im not a yanks fan and it gives me chills. RIP JOE!
I definitely remember this. 1999 seems like ages ago today. I kinda wish that wasn't so. But, anyway, R.I.P to Joey D. And R.I.P to the ol' Stadium, I really miss that place already (even though I never got a chance to go inside and see a Bombers game live. But I'm not a huge crowd guy. I'm from BK!!!).
Not much of a Paul Simon fan. (I'm a Art Garfunkel brother! :-)) But he did his thing at The Stadium in '99 with this tribute. Kinda epic for the time.
the man stands alone in the middle of that huge stadium and belts something he belives in and there isnt much better any man can do heres to you paul simon heres to you.
I remember watching this live. Joe Dimaggio just died and the Yankees paid tribute to him. With Paul, standing at Joe's position in center field, ending the song with the line about Joe, I remember the goosebumps I had, it was so eerie. A great tribute to 1 of the best Yankees ever.
"In these days of Presidential transgressions and apologies and prime-time interviews about private sexual matters, we grieve for Joe DiMaggio and mourn the loss of his grace and dignity, his fierce sense of privacy, his fidelity to the memory of his wife and the power of his silence." - Paul Simon
yeah, in retrospect, we know he was always trying to say, "why is this culture devoid of that integrity that DiMaggio held?" now, "why did DiMaggio leave us?" but rather, "Why did we leave DiMaggio?"
It is extremely difficult for me to express in words how much I loathe the Yankees. But Paul Simon's music is extremely important to my life. This video combines two extremes and it is nevertheless wonderful to watch. A fantastic clip. Thank you so much for posting. Go Red Sox and go Paul Simon!
Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for it for a longtime. I watched it live. The reverberation just sounds so amazing. Beautiful. Thanks again.

Still this song is the best song performed in a stadium ever

Performed with such pathos. This song is quite transformed. And watch how the ballplayers are absolutely transfixed.
