The end result wasn't OK but, frankly, it could have resulted in the two dogs ripping the cat to shreds in front of your kid and that would have been nice for him to witness (happened to a friend of mine who didn't expect her dogs to react that way).

Are you sure the cat was a stray or was it someone's pet? Did you think about maybe stepping in control the dogs?

@nataliewilsonx It's not about sense of humour, it's responsible animal ownership. When a dog decides to attack it's not that easy to stop. My friend took her dog of the leash for a few minutes while walking them along a street & she could not stop them attacking the cat. She was so shocked as it never happened before. She left the scene & basically some person or family had to come out of their house that day & find the bloodied, mangled corpse of their pet. Funny, right?

@nataliewilsonx You miss the point. It could have happened and it might do in future. My friend did not know the dogs would attack (I said it had not happened before). A responsible owner can take a dog off the lead but intervene when they see something about to go down instead of standing back and laughing. If the cat wasn't fearful or distressed here it would not have attacked the dogs. Have you considered how this situation would have appeared to the cat?
