There is no need to know the conditions of the big bang, it won't help us advance. It would be another useless fact they have. Striving for knowledge is okay but if it puts peoples lives at risk then it shouldn't be done.

This is very exciting time in world history.
The data will take a few years to analyse.
Either outcome of whether the Higgs boson is discovered or not will be mind boggling.
If it is not which is Hawkings view then we will have to rethink our view of physics which too is very exciting , who knows what awaits us.

Fact is scientists don't really know whats gonna happen in the experiment which is a little worrying.
but I wouldn't be worried at this stage as only low amount of energy (hydrogen nuclide) is being used.

No lives are at risk, the worst that could happen is it forms a mini black hole with would deteriorate and disappear.
If the worst came to the worst and we formed a giant black hole and destroyed our entire solar system, you wouldn't feel a thing anyway.
