Why aren't the Hind using its YakB-12.7 machine gun or GSh-23 depending on version of the Hind ? should be more agile and precise as its on a Gun pod with a Co-pilot operating it like on the US Cobra
@theloopholeisntaahol This is only a heavy ground attack helicopter he was never designed to dogfight with other helicopters. For this job there are Mi-28 or Mi-24, KA-50 is an autark helicopter to destroy ground forces like tanks, bunkers and convois.
Well... strange dogfight. A Hind could've killed you 60 times in the time while you tried to target the first Hind. They have a minigun turret, strange the first one didn't make use of it.
Only reason I can think it might be worth trying to lase him up in the process, and if the opportunity is there, is to act as a deterrent and stop him from trying to do the same to you; you may force him out of offensive and into evasive. Otherwise there's no reason he shouldn't just to be trying to get rounds on you as quickly as possible himself.
I think in this situation, when your very close to the target, dont worry about locking it up. Just put the guns on him and fire.
I have had about 10 or so situations like this. They usually don't end up good. Especially against apache or cobra. The mi-24's can put up a good fight still.
Very painful to watch ;) You could have downed the buzzer much sooner. Basically when you use shkval to lock only when the target is more than 1,5 km away and easy to follow. When closer/very hard to follow with the cursor you switch to fixed gun (just Backspace and then make sure you have the cannon selected) and you >close the distance< to get a kill ASAP. You could have sprayed at him from within 500 m without any problems. Long burst, high rate of fire.
@Tome4kkkk You're right; I've never been in this situation before so I didn't really have a clue what to do. I've gotten some good advice here and on the DCS: BS forums; I'm going to launch the track, take control, and give it another go when I get off work.
@riscfuture That's all right, you're learning. I highly recommend that you go through the chec klists chapter in the manual. There are check lists for weapon employment too.
@Tome4kkkk I agree, very painful to watch. It has been a while since I flew DCS: BS but>
I'm curious why you wouldn't use the Track Moving Target function (whatever it's actually called) ? It works for tracking Ground Moving Targets so why not Slow Moving Air Targets ? I'm honestly curious because I plan to start using BS 2 soon (already installed).
@SnowTiger45 "I'm curious why you wouldn't use the Track Moving Target function (whatever it's actually called) ? It works for tracking Ground Moving Targets so why not Slow Moving Air Targets ?"
Oh but you would :) But AFAIK: 1) the GMT button should not be lit up for A2A engagement 2) the 'aerial' mode only affects missile's fuse programming, not Shkval target acquisition. Please refer to ED Forums. It has been discussed there, YouTube comments are cumbersome and Google sucks ;)
nearly 8 minutes of trying to lock up the target on your shkval, and you don't even get the kill?
for anyone that doesn't have dcs: black shark, that explosion was a missile, not this guy hitting him with his cannon.

Just use the gunsight with the fixed gun. No chopper stands a chance in close quarters this way.

limited FOV upwards and to the sides, no FLIR, no night vision, sloppy tracking.... if there is one thing I hate in this simulator, it is the Shkval

This is why Helicopters should be manned by TWO people!

Boresight guns definitely for that situation.

Flying was good, tactic to kill the other chopper not so. But hey it was better than i would do. I'm still relatively new to dcs black shark.
