Tomorow, this Ellegant, highly sophisticated aging work horse will live full 30 years in the sky, in February 19th 1982 this plane went up to the air, fresh, young and powerfuul.
Today, 30 years later this plane is still the very same amazing metal bird that soared into the winter sky.
With 1050 aircraft, with many of them being retired latelly, I can say that my eye after this video wasn't dry, I was tearing from happines to see this aircraft climbs to the sky.
Truly one of the best airliners ever built. Originally designed to replace the 727,the 757 ended up carving out a new market on its own. Many 727 operaters ended up supplanting their fleets with 757s rather than replacing the 727s.
I adore the 747-800, for its sheer might and size, but the 757 is absolutely the most comfortable plane I have ever flown on, even in economy. It's awesome, and it's too bad that it is out of production.
if I had the money I would buy a 757 with winglets, stick it on a field and leave it there for me to admire lol..I love the 757..best plane yet..Prob also buy the A330-200 lol
Best narrowbody plane ever made. it is unfortunate that airlines lost interest in this beast and Boeing never made major improvements to the -200 model. If Boeing made a 757-400 model with better payload/range and more efficient RB211-535s to do longer TATL runs, I think the airlines might've bought it and retired their -200s.
These guys will be still flying in 20 years. The airframe must be more or less immortal. Just strap on new engines and change the tires. A fantastic airplane on which to fly, too.
Nope. It's because the 737 and A32x families can do nearly everything it can do, at a lower total cost. The only thing they cannot replicate is the 757s transoceanic range, but only a handful of airlines even use it for that, and they already had plenty of 757s in their possession, so had no need to order more. With no more orders, Boeing had no more need to produce it. But no worries, we'll see them flying still well into the next decade.
@ImmortalSynn Well said, right. The only other single isle that can make a run across the pond I think is the 737-700 and frankly I wouldnt wanna sit on a single isle for that long, id book a widebody.
Dont worry, they will most likely be flying for years to come, hell look at the MD-80 series!
Well, among single-aisle planes, the 757 has a the lowest CASM (Cost per Available Seat Mile) which means it costs less to fly each person each mile using that plane; but that only helps if you can FILL the aircraft with decent-yielding fares. For an aircraft that routinely cares 180+ passengers, that can be hard to do.
The 737s/A32x overcome this by offering fewer seats, and lower total costs. That way, it's easier to fill them to yield, and the lower total cost makes up for their higher CASM
Because advancements in the 737 and A32x families gave those aircraft the capability to handle most jobs the 757 can do, and at a lower overall cost.
The 757 still has its CASM advantage as well as transAtlantic range, but the percentage of airlines who need those abilities is relatively small, and all of those airlines (primarily Continental, Delta, American, USAirwyas, and to a lesser extent, United) already had plenty of 757s. Thus no new orders, thus Boeing wrote off the production line.
the 757 was the Ferrari of the regular airliners, that awesome power to weight ratio, i still haven't flown in one, hope i can some day b4 they are all gone
@Jerrycobra What part of the world do you live in? They are pretty common for Transcon US domestic runs, ive flown it many times ATL-SEA on delta, definately one of my favorites too
Then it shouldn't be hard for you at all. Every major USA airline, with the usual exception of USAirways, constantly flies their 757s, and plenty of them, into the SoCal area.
You can even spot a US 757 there from time to time.
Mal Aterrizaje. es que siempre esos Ingenieros están acostumbrado a aviones mas pesados. por que el 727 y el 737 de esa epoca. son mas pequeños , pero eran mas firmes para despegues y aterrizajes.
A great piece of engineering
