本日、調査現場及び当研究所の意向を踏まえて農林水産大臣は、乗組員の生命・財産及び調査船の安全を確保する観点から、第2期南極海鯨類捕獲調査（JARPAII）の調査活動の切り上げを発表した。
日本が実施しているJARPAIIは国際捕鯨取締条約（ICRW）に基づくものであり、完全に合法的な調査活動である。シーシェパードが行っている妨害活動は調査捕鯨に従事する我が国の船舶および乗組員の生命・財産を脅かすものであり、このような執拗で危険極まりのない違法行為は決して許されるべきものではない。
また、シーシェパードによる妨害行為は、国際捕鯨委員会において捕鯨に対する各国の立場にかかわらず非難されており、シーシェパードを名指しで非難した声明も全会一致で採択されている。
この問題は、捕鯨の是非に関する問題ではなく、海上の安全・暴力行為に関する問題である。
しかし、オランダ政府及びオーストラリア政府は、シーシェパード船舶に対して船籍を与えているにもかかわらず、これらの船舶による暴力行為を止めることができなかった。

While we in the West berate the Japanese, we have brought the cod close to extinction and destroyed vast swathes of the sea floor, including all the bio-diversity that existed in those once pristine areas.

I know that Paul Watson started his campaign to save the whales because he was out swimming one day, and some Japanese whalers mistook him for a whale and harpooned him. A very common misunderstanding given his stature, but he took it very personally.

Hey, I have a question. How do you expect to keep eating whale when the Japanese whaling fleets kill hundreds of pregnant females every year??? The Japanese Government itself reported in 2006 that over half of the minke whales they killed were pregnant females.
Instead of crying about some kind of "cultural discrimination" or racism, maybe you should be crying about the fact that soon, you won't have any whale meat to eat.

I've been to Japan twice. I love the culture, I love the food and I love my friends over there. But you guys are some of the most emotionally stunted people in the world. And this video doesn't do much except confirm this. If that's Minke whale that you're eating, enjoy - not endangered. But if it's humpback or fin whale, then you might wanna ask yourselves how it feels to help extinguish a species from the world. PS, I hope your new prime minister actually sticks with his job this time.
