  • Jerry is that man...listen to that silk

  • hey, he is the ICE MAN! did he also sing, "in the wee small hours of the morning"?

  • New Birth did a nice read on this several years later...but there is no doubt that Mr. Jerry Butler, THE ICE MAN, absolutely OWNS this!!!

  • Ok Jerry, what's with the scary intro, sounds like a sci fi thriller is about to unravel. Love the song, though!

  • So did new merchant or Butler write this first?

  • simplemente hermosa

  • At our frat parties, when this one played, usually around midnight, the slow dancing got major serious. What magic moments. My girl and I would glide all over the floor, spin, laugh, sigh, sing along, look into each others eyes, smile, kiss, and, well, just enjoy living. There is absolutely nothing greater in life than falling in love, and anyone knows that you just can't really fall completely in love without slow dancing. Thanks for posting this great song.

  • 18 years young loving the hell out of this classic by jerry butler i love the feeling the song portrays

  • this is oleskool begging! love it!!!

  • The Iceman is the real deal.......FABULOUS SONG !

  • when I first listened to this song back in 1968 it hooked me into the world of soul music, however Jerry's other track on the album Your Precious Love, just out of this world, the most extraordinary voice and lyrics I had ever listened to.

  • I love rap and funk and disco, but I have to cop to it: classic soul is really missed. Real instruments, great, restrained singing, sadness, romance. Where the f*ck did it go?

  • I just love the ice man...sing it Jerry...I love this song I really like his version...so cool! Of course I love all his music...I just love the old school music...so glad I found this .

  • I Love Mr. Butlers Version but I have to say The New Birth's Version was a R&B #1 hit I more was in The New Birth era....But I luv this one too.....

  • allright who wrote this jerry butler or new birth? i love this song

  • @tribe1964

Written by J. Ross and L. Weiss. First performed by Jerry Butler (60's), then New Birth (70's)

  • I have loved this song. I remember listening to this in the summer of 70.

  • Does anyone know who plays drums on this????? Percussion? The triangle shit is so smart. 2 and 4? Yea! He's named the "iceman" cause george woods nick named him that before he introduced him at a show in filly.

  • Does anyone know who plays drums on this????? Percussion? The triangle shit is so smart. 2 and 4? Yea!

  • Isn't Jerry's nickname "The Iceman"? Can anyone tell me why? Curious...

  • @fab4fan4ever64 -The Ice Man- yep. The best.

  • All we have to know is the harp play at the start of the song..damn how good was this music back then?

  • Grew up with this song! My Mom had one of his greatest hits albums, and this song was on it.

  • Jerry has such a rich voice !! He's one of my new favorites !! Thanks for Posting !!

  • I was surprised when I found out Jerry sung this first a few years back. I'm 41 and I must admit he reaaly sounds great. i thought It wouldn't compare to New Birth but it's his own smooth style and he really kicks it.... YUP What year did this come out

  • @stevieplez2 It really does sound more like he's the original when you listen to it

  • @dogcat126 ..wow!! i love yr comment!!

  • Wow I'm blown away...............it wasn't until I needed to listen to New Birth I discovered Jerry B. did this first.............Awsome. Thank you

  • @bassfima thanx

  • @bassfima Oh yea most definitely and he did it RIGHT...New birth sounds good but nothing beats the original!

  • @rshandy well everybodys entitled to their own opinion but personally i think NEWBIRTH took this from the iceman and ran wid it, but his version tho it is the original is a distant second and the saying NOTHING BEATS THE ORIGINAL is not true at all. there are actually quite a few songs that were remade and actually sound better than the originals

  • @regvision -Never heard of New Birth....no way..this is the shit....this is the damn Ice Man!!

  • @MrDavearama yeah he is the iceman, but you need to go and checkout the NEW BIRTH

  • This is the perfect music and song, for slowing dancing and slow love making. Girls look at those bedroom eyes! Omg! LOVE IT, and him.

  • This is my first time hearing this version. I love New Birth so I love that version of the song. I will give him Ain't Understanding Mello.

i love how every city has a distinguished sound, but all sounds can be felt and related to just the same.

im from and still in NY, and i still aspire to get to the Southside...Minnie Riperton is one of my hugest inspirations and she's from there as well.

God Bless Mr. Butler, the "Ice Man" as my parents and the world affectionately calls him. He Rocks and He's The Man...
