At our frat parties, when this one played, usually around midnight, the slow dancing got major serious. What magic moments. My girl and I would glide all over the floor, spin, laugh, sigh, sing along, look into each others eyes, smile, kiss, and, well, just enjoy living. There is absolutely nothing greater in life than falling in love, and anyone knows that you just can't really fall completely in love without slow dancing. Thanks for posting this great song.
when I first listened to this song back in 1968 it hooked me into the world of soul music, however Jerry's other track on the album Your Precious Love, just out of this world, the most extraordinary voice and lyrics I had ever listened to.
I love rap and funk and disco, but I have to cop to it: classic soul is really missed. Real instruments, great, restrained singing, sadness, romance. Where the f*ck did it go?
I just love the ice man...sing it Jerry...I love this song I really like his version...so cool! Of course I love all his music...I just love the old school music...so glad I found this .
Does anyone know who plays drums on this????? Percussion? The triangle shit is so smart. 2 and 4? Yea! He's named the "iceman" cause george woods nick named him that before he introduced him at a show in filly.
I was surprised when I found out Jerry sung this first a few years back. I'm 41 and I must admit he reaaly sounds great. i thought It wouldn't compare to New Birth but it's his own smooth style and he really kicks it.... YUP What year did this come out
i love jerry butler! i'm 62 and grew up with him and then my husband and i got to meet him and his wife just a few years ago at o'hare airport in chicago. we were so thrilled and we could tell t hat he and his wife were very tired but they were both so sweet! . we met a living legend.! thanks for posting!
@rshandy well everybodys entitled to their own opinion but personally i think NEWBIRTH took this from the iceman and ran wid it, but his version tho it is the original is a distant second and the saying NOTHING BEATS THE ORIGINAL is not true at all. there are actually quite a few songs that were remade and actually sound better than the originals
OMG...As a teen I had the biggest CRUSH on The Ice Man....If you looked anything like Jerry back then I was a goner...LOL...He stills holds a place in my heart...
Im 28 and my daddy used to listen to this song in the car all the time. Me and my sis loved this song when we were little. Still do... Aww memories :-)
Absolutely love this song. Jerry just blows you out the water street ahead with feeling! I love singing to it and I'm 46 so this goes way back with me.

New Birth did a nice read on this several years later...but there is no doubt that Mr. Jerry Butler, THE ICE MAN, absolutely OWNS this!!!

i love how every city has a distinguished sound, but all sounds can be felt and related to just the same.
im from and still in NY, and i still aspire to get to the Southside...Minnie Riperton is one of my hugest inspirations and she's from there as well.
God Bless Mr. Butler, the "Ice Man" as my parents and the world affectionately calls him. He Rocks and He's The Man...
