Its a reference to New York City's Fifth Avenue. There was a time in the States when the words Fifth Avenue conjured up images of urbanity, luxury and wealth.
1. No I haven't heard of those places, I'm British.
2. I didn't open my mouth I typed something.
3. It's a dumb name for a chocolate bar, who wants to buy a Jewish named chocolate bar? They don't sell well here in Britain, infact since Woolworths closed I haven't seen one.
Fair enough man, no worries, sorry if I sounded like a dick too, I think over here the closest thing to a Hershey bar is a Mars Bar, that's pretty popular too. I mihgt be wrong on that though
@pseudohippie55 Except there is no Fifth Avenue in Hershey. While it is now owned by Hershey, it originated up the road in Reading, where the Fifth Avenue signs used to look like the candy wrappers.
@XENONPLASMA Isn't that the truth ? If one looks hard enough though, there are still some places that still sell penny candy - pieces of candy for a penny.
Also, there was a $100 bonus you could win if you didn't go over $7; win or lose. By the time that new $20-$21 rule came in (replacing $6.75-$7) that $100 bonus was gone.
The $100 bonus was only there for the first four playings; however, the range was increased to $20-$21 on January 26, 1989. I thought I might include that, because it could appear to some people that the $20-$21 rule and getting rid of the bonus was close together.
definitely '79. The seating for contestants' row is blue. In October 1980, it was changed to green. Also, the floor in front of contestant's row was still yellow up until the 79-80 season. So...yea. I pay way too much attention to this show, I know. haha.
5th Avenue Is Now Owned By Hershey's

Was 35 the record quantity chosen? Pretty cool that it actually resulted in a win, too.

5th Avenue, by Luden's - ones that actually still make cough drops.

Is Barker wearing his suit inside-out?................. Oh, wait. That's right. I've been trying to erase the 1970's fashion styles from my brain!

I can tell this is 70's. Bob's suit looks...well, like it came from that era.

Plaid. Painful plaid. What ever made us think that was good stuff to wear? I see old pics of me in plaid and I cringe so badly... lol
leandar 3 years ago
I'm SOOOOO blad those leisure suits disappeared with the 70's. Also, the HUGE plaids had to be the worst style, ever.

Yeah, around that time, hence the Christmas decorations (though the Christmas shows are usually a week before Christmas).
