The Original three Stars on 45 Albums (out of print but way collectible) have extended versions of some of these songs, and some not included at all, but which were on the later re-releases. One other detail you might've missed: Studio 54 was originally a dairy facility which was later converted into a television studio facility operated by the US television network CBS. CBS shot down the building in the late 1960s and sold it to the investors that created the legenday disco in 1974.

I seem to recall this was a project started by the drummer from Golden Earring, as a way of counteracting a then-popular bootleg club-mix of oldies mixed to a drum machine beat. I think he had an interest in one of the songs that was bootlegged (Venus by Shocking Blue) and came up with the idea of using studio musicians to make sound-alike recordings and pay proper royalties for the use of the songs. The Beatles one kicked off a medley craze in pop music in 1981 that lasted a year or two.
