I think that from end of WWII these were the best tanks at time of introduction to service. Centurion, T-64, T-80, Abrams, Challenger 2. Every one say their tanks are the best but to say truth i see only one Abrams in action when others just saying they are the best caz it looks cool in fight simulations or arms shows. Even our T90 which i am personally think is the best never saw real competition in fight. @Helge129 Chieftan might still have the best armour, Leopard or Merkur prob tops overall. Abrams is in the same class but far from superior, in any particular stat, speed, armor or armament. MBT's are pretty much obsolete as AFV's anyway. Too big a target and too heavy a weight class for what they can do in todays world. Bradley is junk but at least it's based on a sound theory. Smaller is better when you are the one manning it.

If I had to make a personal top 4 of the best Western tanks, I'd say (based on what I've read, seen, etc.):

1- Leopard 2A6. Low silhouette, excellent speed and manoeuvrability. German made.

2- Abrams M1A1. Combat hardened, I'd say it proved to do rather good on the field.

3- Leclerc MBT. Behind the Abrams because it saw less combat. Amazing speed, upgradable armor, good gun, good technology.

4- Challenger 2. Slower, overall seems slightly behind the others.
