  • It always fascinates me watching these videos that all these inmates are all just chillin'. Nowadays, we try that and riots would be going on in two seconds.

  • if you don't own a copy of that record yet go out and buy it. NOW!

  • I wish on the date September 12 2003 nothing happened

  • god bless you johnny, even if you were here you wouldnt know how me miss you :'(

  • is that carl perkins playing guitar in the band?

  • @brianpcurran It sure looks like it :)

  • God Prays To Johnny Cash

  • 3 peolpe have no taste in music

  • The three people that gave a thumbs down to this video should be deported...after they're hunted down and beaten. Cash was a giant among men.

  • Lovely man with a humble sympathy for his fellow man and with some of the experiences of some of those men I am sure

  • this is coming from a heavy metal and punk rock guy. LONG LIVE JOHNNY CASH, I remember listening to him and the highway men(johnny, Kris, waylon, and willie) on my mom's Vinyl records. Still these songs bring to me to tears, i love them and i hope they are passed down through the generations

  • I grew up listening to The Man in Black... there isn't anyone like him..he is the best... RIP Johnny Cash...

  • Anyone notice how Johnny sings out the side of his mouth?

    Anyone know why that is?

  • God blees yoy mr Cash ..rip...!!!

  • was johnnys band the same ones as when he first started great clip

  • @tracytcb111111111111 Original Tennessee Three (Two) guitarist Luther Perkins died in a house fire the year before. Bob Wootoon replaced him.

  • GENIO DE VERDAD. saludos from argentina. GRANDE JOHNNY

  • the thumbnail for this video looked like his father was on stage with him

  • Dear God in heaven even prisoners were better back then.Johnny rest in peace. We miss ya.

  • this is a perfect live performance by the man in black

  • All the prisoners are white and well-behaved? What's going on here?

  • @Edubbplate The 60's ;)

  • @Edubbplate because the were mostly trustees and minor crime cons. I know, it pissed of Johnny too. You can hear him complain about it on the CD. But at least they piped it in to their cells.

  • Johnny war einzigartig

  • @dozzel Ja, das war er, und ist es immer noch !!

  • Great video! Cash live at San Quentin one of the best albums. Greetings from The Netherlands.

  • Ladies look tense.

  • Rather a circular pile that takes you as high as the clouds with a silver line ing. Where's the silver spoon and the group that gathers all around? Now, say you go to prison and you sing songs to make them remember former addictions, is that nice? Or is that a trick of the promoters to say "see how stupid the people are". "How we can manipulate you into crime and then perscute you after you are caught". "How we laugh at human governments". No one sees the acts of the terrorist makers? LIE

  • those clips are killing the song

  • was one of my late mothers favorite songs..She loved Johnny Cash and I do too..this is country at its' best..Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, June Carter, the Statler Bros..etc..Country sounds like garbage now..

  • Świetne to jest :D

  • I'm normally into a totally different kind of music but I can only bow to Johnny Cash. He was great and his music still is - and most likely will forever - be great.

  • Her synger Johnny Cash , og kona June Carter for fangene i USA s strengeste fengsel, San Quintin,-- -- fabelaktig!

  • love this video, feel for our Men locked up.. lots of which are locked up wrongfully!! Gave a lot of credit to Johnny for bringing their spirts up ;0

  • R.I.P Johnny cash god i wish i had the videos when me and my family would sing this in church

  • what a great performence!

  • Johnny cashh !!

Ma old man was locked up when johhny cash came nd performed at San Quentin,

    R.I.P Johnny cashh.

  • Anyone know what kind of guitar that is?

  • Carl Perkins is probably using an Epiphone Zephyr Emperor Regent based on it having three pick-ups and having the headstock of an Epiphone (the "tree of life"). Bob Wooten is using a Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar (I think Jaguar). Mr. Cash is using a Martin dreadnought.

  • i love you johnny cash

    <333

  • johnnys a champion!!!

  • Isn't there a noninterrupted version ^^

  • @hovno696 You have a way with words...ever thought about working for TBN? LOL JK!!!! God Bless!!!

  • @hovno696 Do you think you missed any swear words there? I can say the same thing an not cuss one lick. You think you could? You should be careful when you try... you might hurt yourself. (you know I'm just given ya crap) lol

  • Johnny Cash created a soul in men,but a heart in music.

  • amazing amazing amazing

  • Great song!!!

The interviews with the prisoners was also interesting; we really are just shuffling a good number of poverty-stricken saps who continue to be penalized when they return to society. It's a viscous cycle of isolating people without reforming them, and all we get are nasty prisons and nastier prisoners.

At least Johnny recognized this problem and sought to bring attention to it. That gives hope for future reforms at least.

  • Johnny Cash felt for em coz he was living a life close to prison by his lifestyle..

He was one of em but still on the outside of the walls.

That's why his music comes across!

We've all done bad things we didn't get caught on, and Johnny Cash knew that very well!!

    R.I.P.

    Savor of many souls

  • well said!!!

  • How many songs did Johnny and The Band sing there? I think he had true feelings for singing there. Not many folks would have the guts. I think God smile at him that day.

  • The complete show at San Quentin included 31 songs, by Johnny and June and the Tennessee Three, Carl Perkins, the Statler Brothers and Mother Maybelle with the Carter Sisters.

  • God Bless Johnny Cash. He felt for these prisoners because he was one himself. He turned his life around and helped to soothe other ppl's souls reguardless of what they did. Yes ppl in prison might be scumbags...as you put it...but there human beings to. Although things they have done i cannot in no way relate to or understnad why they did what they did. We will all have to stand before someone one day...what will you have to say for the life you have lived now on this earth?

  • Well put man.

  • I thought he never served more than one night in jail.. never got a prison sentence.

  • Absolutely amazing

  • I love this song, This song really tells how it really is. Johnny cash is the Master, a wonderful man!

  • Carl Perkins up there with him....Cool.

  • top song

  • Would've been a perfect video if not for interrupting the music to listen to these scumbags cry about how rough they have it in prison.

  • Remember - these are the "scumbags" Johnny was singing for and to...Johnny wanted to have their stories told.

  • Its people like you that keeps the criminals to keep committing crimes over and over.

  • Your absolutely right. We should stop sending them to prison. Perhaps we should start passing out hugs flowers and candies and ask them to stop? Yeah that will work. Maybe thats part of the "Change" this country is headed towards.

  • We can't pass out flowers and candies, that would be way too expensive!!!!

  • Suck one SledgeHammer15. Johnny was there because he knew these prisoners were people just like him, and you and me. Some of them deserve to be in there and get treated like shit, but not all. The prison system is more fucked up today than it has ever been. Idiots like you are the reason why.

  • Well if its so fucked up, maybe they should stop breaking the law and going to jail. Seems simple enough to me.

  • Got tazered? Yeah because they all carried tasers in 1969. Oh and your absolutely right, you don't have to break the law to go to prison. In fact, everyone in there is innocent. Just ask them.

  • I didn't say he got tazered in THIS vid you dipshit. Simple minded dumbasses like you are exactly whats wrong with the system. If you think their aren't any innocent people in there its your own stupidity.

  • its because people like that some of these people got sentences as long as they did for not really do much but there are alot of people that were in there that i could give a shit about i.e.rapist, murders etc

  • i love this song makes me feel so happy god i thank u for johnny he really is an amazing person ill meet him in bliss

  • this song makes me feel so happy inside :)

    RIP, Mr. Cash.

  • Great song and lovely performance!! thank you to tuktukskagal for sending this vid!! :DD

  • wicked video. thanx a lot.bless johnny and june.

  • Look how YOUNG June is in this! Wow, I'm so used to listening to this song when everyone is older. Thank you soo much for posting. The background voices are different too (like the spots they sing harmony.) On my cd this song was recorded much later. The people talking keep annoying me. Thanks again!

  • i wish who ever that is wouldnt inturupt the king of country music from singing,

    Johnny Cash,

    Rest in Peace

  • Pure poetry.

  • omg thx for posting this!
